There are two turkish restaurants with nearly identical menus one block apart (around a corner). This is not the good one! This is a factory, and the diner is riding on the assembly line. Service was unfriendly - three different servers and none greeted us, none made eye contact. Within the hour, three glasses fell from a waiter's tray near us, one of them shattering and bouncing up onto a table where people were eating, but no one offered to replace their meals. The food here is mediocre. Nothing memorable. We ordered rice (twice) and the second time were told they were out. Meat had little flavor. They made a drink that was good, and we ordered a second one that was terrible. Bartender shift change, and the second one just made things up (wrong liquor, wrong flavoring). We left it on the table after a sip and instead of taking the charge off the menu, the waiter replaced it with a drink that was marginally better (still the wrong liquor). Go around the corner to Nisantasi Baskose, where the menu is pretty much the same, the food is 3x better, the service 5x better and it's a quieter atmosphere, at the same price.

Service (5/5): our waiter was polite, and served what we ordered in timely manner. Facility is clean and decorated nicely.Food (3/5): ordered (1) lamb chops plate and (2) chicken sish kebab plate. For #1, we received 4 pieces of lamb chops a grilled pepper and half of a grilled tomato and some fresh parsley. For #2, maybe 8 small pieces of grilled chicken, and same sides as #1. No rice, no french fries, no sliced red onions with it. These sides are standard in any descent kebab house. Also, food quality isn't anywhere close to Gelik's or Beyti's, but you do end up paying comparable or even more for the same plate and/or appetizers. This just isn't acceptable.Price (1/5): value - price ratio is very low here. You'll get ripped off at Develi.I'm not going back there again.
Be the first to ReplyFood is super greasy.
Service is horrible. The waiter will kick your seat and hit your back every time they pass. They don't check with you if you need anything. Bringing the check takes forever. And food is just ok, super fatty.

This place was recommended by our concierge at the hotel for some good Turkish food. What a great place! The service was right on time. The waiters were funny and engaging and made great recommendations on food. We got the mixed grill and some other sides. The baklava topped with ice cream was delicious. I will definitely return on my next visit to Istanbul!

This restaurant was recommended to us by someone we met while exploring Istanbul. Since it was next door to our St Regis hotel we decided to give it a try. They have inside and outside tables and they asked if we smoked. Even though we don't smoke we chose to seat outside. Food and drinks were very good.
Be the first to ReplyDeveli has great service and great food.
I enjoyed the different courses that were offered to us, each at the right moment. Our water glasses were always full. The food quality was excellent and delicious. We had some meze and lahmacun and salads. House red wine was good. The bread they served was very good. The table next to us had an impressive pita delivered to their table, puffy and steaming from the oven. Service was prompt. I will go again!
Be the first to ReplyI brought two chef friends from NYC to Develi tonight.
Normally I would never come here. But it's in my neighborhood, we were exhausted and I was craving lamacun. Knowing it is Nisantasi I know it would be a tad more expensive. But again we were hungry and tired and it was almost 10 o'clock at night. We sit down and they immediately set down cig kofte and tursu. The waiter starts to prepare a cig kofte for me and tries to feed it to me. Totally inappropriate. As most cig kofte and pickles are complimentary I didn't think anything of it. We were just there for the lamacun. So I ordered two medium sized ones. I which I specifically covered the "Buyuk" or large lamacun on the menu and pointed to the medium one. And we ordered 1 order of icli kofte. Which on my menu was 9tl but my friends was 6. All the amounts were higher on my menu. And I suspected we were getting the yabanci (foreigner who they will cheat) treatment. I should have asked but they were being so aggressive with us and rushing us plus my Turkish isn't great. So I didn't. Fast forward. The icli kofte by the way was one kofte. We get our bill. We had ordered 3 beers 2 medium lamacun and 1 icli kofte. 163.00 lira. Let that sink in. 1, 5 gram ball of fried dough and meat 2 pieces of flat bread slathered in a thin layer of diced meat and 3, 33 cl bottles of domestic beer were 163 lira. They had charged us an obscene amount of money for the cig kofte, and pickles which when I specifically asked the Turkish waiter if they were complimentary he ignored. They charged us the higher menu prices on all the appetizers. They upcharged us from the medium to the large lamacun and to add insult to injury they charged us all an 8tl cover. Come here if you want to be humiliated and cheated in front of your guests. I just looked at one of their other reviewers and saw a picture of both their table and receipt. They received the cig kofte and were not charged. Clearly cheated.
Be the first to ReplyI live in Istanbul and have been at several Develi
I live in Istanbul and have been at several Develi locations since the 1990s and always a great experience. Recently they opened a Nisantasi location. I had some American friends visiting and we had a great meal with excellent and friendly service. We had a few Meze and then a shared mixed grill plate. Perfect choices and even extra to take home. For traditional kebab meal this is the best choice in the neighborhood.
