Dinner by Heston Blumenthal London Reviews from The Last Year
Another wonderful visit
Another wonderful visit to Dinner by Heston, I’ve lost count of the number of times we have eaten here (usually twice a year, we’re not local or it would be more) and it never disappoints. This time I introduced three friends who had not been before and they were very impressed. Atmosphere, service and food were all exceptional. Only one thing slightly spoiled the visit for me. We had drinks in the bar area ahead of taking our table. When we were ready to move through to the restaurant I caught the eye of a server and asked if we could go through. She replied that we had to settle the bar bill first, but I asked if we could add the bar bill to the bill for the table and settle it all at the end. She rolled her eyes and walked away. She then left us standing there wondering if we were to find our own way to our table. Another lady who had been standing by the reception desk saw us and came to show us our table. The original lady stood to the side of the room ignoring us. This has been my first ever experience of anything other than excellent service here. Thankfully once we were at our table, our servers were attentive and friendly.
Fabulous food and service
What a wonderful experience. Great food and fabulous service in beautiful surroundings. We went for the set lunch and accompanying wine selection. Great gluten free options with freshly baked bread and an off the menu desert. Starters of a ragoo of pigs ears and smoked salmon belly, mains of lamb loin, lamb heart and cucumber and a salt cod and deserts of pineapple and cardamom tart and a goats cheesecake. The lunch concept is to use the off cuts from dinner. The wine selection was a mix of Austrian and French and the desert wine was a beautiful wine similar to a Sauterne. The service was exceptional and although pricey it was worth every penny. For a special occasion highly recommended.
Great food - shocking sommelier
I have absolutely no complaints about the food and the helpfulness and courtesy of the staff. The young Greek chef could not have been more helpful and we all thoroughly enjoyed the chef's table. However I seriously object to the sort of behaviour the sommelier exhibited. I ordered a white Burgundy which was reasonably priced. Out of a stock of what must be many hundreds of bottles he told me he had only one of those left and pointed to a more expensive bottle - upselling, of which others have complained. I said I would have the one I had selected plus one other. I then chose a red Givry. The sommelier assured me that the more expensive Pommard had 'more structure" - upselling again. I said I wanted the Givry as it is a wine I enjoy and is good value. I ordered two bottles. When the white wine was nearly finished the sommelier brought over the second white wine, a different white Burgundy, and enquired if he could pour this into the remains of the first wine 'to blend it" as he put it. This is simply appalling as he well knew. This is totally unheard of and outrageous. I was not going to make a fuss in front of my guests and ask for fresh glasses. so I agreed. He then effectively stopped pouring our wines so that by the end of the meal we had some white left and a whole bottle of red which we took home. As I have said, a wonderful meal and full marks to the brigade but if this is how the sommelier thinks he should behave then he needs a talking to
Very impressive
The venue itself is very opulent, and the kitchen design is perfect for the experience. Food was great and the service friendly without being over bearing. The idea if the cards was brilliant for the kecel of interaction and engagement. Food itself was very good, bold and i teresting flavours. The green sauce in the turbot was exceptional and the peach desert amazing. Got to say the size if the truffle and meat fruit were very small...
Very disappointing.
Good points: the customer relations are excellently handled. Unlike many Michelin star restaurants they accept solo bookings without a fuss. Another great feature is the thorough checklist for food intolerances, which is followed up by the friendly, excellent, and efficient wait staff. The food, however, was extremely disappointing. First up were some beet and tapioca crackers. They were delightfully crispy, melt in the mouth, but tasted of nothing other than extreme salt. It was obvious that no one had actually tasted them before they were served because they were so oversalted as to be almost inedible. I had the lobster starter but was disappointed both by the texture of the (tiny piece) of lobster – it was tough and chewy – and the flavour which aside from the vaguely lemony cucumber liquid sauce was completely unremarkable, bland and undistinguished . That was followed by a small piece of salmon, with an impressive pedigree, but very little actual flavour. I cannot even remember what the sauce was. Oh yes, there was a dollop of supposed champagne jelly, but it had no particular flavour. I had been looking forward to a dessert, but had to leave because the volume of noise in the huge bare walled, bare ceilinged, and bare floored room had become intolerable. I literally could not wait to escape. All in all, extremely disappointing.
Very good
Dinner is a pretty excellent destination. It is not, though, stunning; perhaps it once was. I must stress from the go that the food was by no means poor - some of it was delicious. Service, too, was impeccable - warm, interested, and particularly attentive. My thanks to Ryan, Amy, and the lovely Irish waitress whose name I sadly did not catch. Dinner offers what is purported to be an insight into Heston’s mind, and it is on this facet I think it falls rather flat. Heston is a genius, whose eccentricities are best embodied and celebrated in Fat Duck form. I am in no doubt that Dinner, on opening, was special, but it no longer conveys that magic. Why do I think this? A couple of reasons. The room, for one, feels dated on closer inspection, with rather worn tables and, generally, a decor which lacks any real grandeur. This, I concede, is tangential to the main experience - what of the food then? I ate from the a la carte, and had five courses in a sort of DIY tasting - more places ought to do this, so thank you to Ryan for that. The meat fruit itself looks exceptionally cool; the flavour, too, is pretty good, and is a characteristic chix parfait, which, for my palate, could have been fattier - the glossier the better imo. The second course was knockout - cucumber and lobster soup. Remarkable - eminently seasonal, beautiful on the plate, and with harmonious flavours. What, truly, is not to like? Really generous with the lobster too. My main was turbot with green sauce - a very good offering, if not slightly lacking. The fish would have benefitted from a little more salt, and, if I may, a different approach in the cooking. My waiter told me that it undergoes a slow cook, before a plancha flash for colour; I think this seeing a pan would work better, but I do not have two stars! :) The chips, I must say, were exemplary - if every chip in this world ate like that, it would be a better place. Dessert, for me, was perhaps uninspiring, if pleasant. Ryan generously provided me a complimentary tipsy cake, which I found enjoyable if not really very dense, and, despite my sweet tooth, almost too much on that front. The chocolate bar was good, too, but just good, as opposed to, say innovative when compared to Claude Bosi’s asparagus with chocolate, or indulgent when compared to Sofian Msetfi’s delicious Millefeuille. Dinner was, really, very good. Would I return? With friends, for sure. Would I make that special trip again? Unlikely. I am still, nonetheless, most grateful to the team.
Guaranteed an excellent meal !
Returned to Hestons for yet another excellent meal ( our 4th) ! Had our favourites - meat fruit , triple cooked chips, beef , and of course tipsy cake 😋 service was truly engaging , helpful , humorous and professional . Each staff had a different role to play and explained difference aspects of our meal. You can chose to have a maverick , adventurer and the guide . Each has different degrees of staff engagement for each dish. The menu remains the same … so there is consistency and a familiarity. Some aspects of service change from time to time but overall a great experience is ensured.
Wedding Anniversary celebration at Dinner
First time at dinner after trying several other of Heston’s places. The hotel is lovely. Had a drink first at the Carousel bar. Restaurant was nice. I like the glass walls to see in the kitchen. Staff were attentive. Alba our waitress was excellent, as was the French sommelier. Food was very nice, if a little slow. We only got offered the taster menu, but I think there was a la carte too?! Did I get blown away like in the fat duck, or even Mugartiz or Nerua - no. Was it very nice yes. But it is all the money. Taster menu for 2, white glass of bubbles, glass of white and a bottle of red between us was almost £850. I think there are better places for that money - just my opinion. It was very very nice, and I’m glad I’ve ticked the box. ✅
I Hope you Get the Bulgarian Sommelier
Everything was very good, but not 2-star amazing. The Salamagundy was a definite highlight. My son enjoyed his duck. My ribeye was good, but I honestly just grilled a dry-aged ribeye as tender, but tastier, at home tonight. By far the most memorable part of the evening was the sommelier. We had quite a fascinating conversation. I happened to ask him if he knew much about Eastern European wines --- by total coincidence he is a Bulagrian native. He provided both a wealth of Balkan wine information and recommended an amazing Barolo.
Absolutely delightful
Different level restaurant. To put on a bucket list , once in a lifetime experience at less you have £ 600 at least to splash out on a meal for 2 as often as you wish The wine list here is unbelievable and of course the food from the grand master. Must try at least once
What an experience!
WE had the five course tasting menu - and there’s an amuse bouche and a freebie at the end too. The room is okay - nothing really special. we had a table for two looking into the kitchen (very interesting), watching the calm professionalism in action and a number of pineapple being slowly roasted and basted frequently. All the staff were exceptional, although we seemed to be served by so many that I lost count! There is nothing on the menu that is anything other than superb. Of course the ‘meat fruit’ is a bit of a star as it is such an extraordinary creation. We chose to have the ‘Discovery’ wine flight. It is a cheapest option at £135 but consisted of an interesting array of organic wines. It is quite a drawn out experience at nearly 3 hours which didn’t particularly bother us but it might be too long for some! Bill for 2 with tip a bit under £900. A lot, but it is a fantastic experience - and your can spend an awful lot more as there is a World class wine list to indulge in.
Brilliant.
Had dinner here in early April, my wife and I had a fantastic experience, yes its expensive but the food and staff were absolutely brilliant and we can now cross this off our bucket list, highly recommended.
wonderful food
Food is wonderful. We ordered ala carte instead of the tasting menu. Everyone ordered different items on the menu and we created our own tasting menu by sharing. Seem pressured to order wine by the sommalier and he recommends the most expensive wine/champagne by the glass which is 80 pounds on our bill. Nevertheless, we had a good experience there and the stomachs were so satisfied that we skipped dinner and breakfast the next morning as we weren't hungry. The fires are out of this world.
Some of the best food on the planet.
Have visited this restaurant twice. Classic dishes such as the Meat Fruit and Tipsy Cake (both on the set menu) have to be experienced to be believed. Up there with the best things I've ever had the joy to eat. Lovely laid back atmosphere in the restaurant without it feeling sloppy/sluggish. Only 2 Michelin stars but arguably one of the best restaurants in London, if not the world.
Yum! We were looking forward to different flavors while
Yum! We were looking forward to different flavors while visiting London. We were able to get a late lunch reservation, so it was very quiet. Service started out great and everyone was attentive. After we finished our first glass of wine, we had to wave to get the attention of another server because our original server was now gone? Service after that was mediocre. The food was good, although I am not sure we would go back due to the price and service. You get to choose between the Adventurer, Guide and Maverick, however, we had a very difficult time understanding what they were saying. In the beginning we asked them to repeat the description of the course, and then gave up. Restaurant is inside the beautiful Mandarin Oriental.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
