Dishoom Covent Garden London Reviews
Great meal, no line
Walking around Covent Garden we saw a huge line outside of this restaurant. We weren't interesting in waiting and checked the website for reservations but it seemed booked every day except for the morning. However, we were in Covent Garden in mid-afternoon (between lunch and dinner) again and decided just to check it out. There was no line and were seated immediately. It was a great meal! Delicious Mumbai style indiian food. Great cocktails as well. Excellent service. So go off hours to avoid lines.
Good food but noisy and long wait for a table-no reservations allowed for 2 people after 6 pm
The food was great but it only gets 3 stars because the restaurant will not take reservations for groups under 6 people after 6pm, we arrived at 6 and had a 45 minute wait in heavy winds, we were seated in the downstairs area and it was very dark necessitating a flashlight to read the menu and the whole restaurant was extremely noisy. Despite the good food, we would never return. Our meal arrived minutes after putting in the order and we finished the meal in under 45 minutes.
Love it!
Dishoom never disappoints! We take all our visitors there for lunches and dinners as it is absolutely wonderful experience and gorgeous food! Staff is great and ever so helpful. Atmosphere is the best! Highly recommend. Book online! It is popular and very busy all the time!

The food is good, with some creative dishes that are hard to find elsewhere, but the menu doesn't always warn as to the actual level of spice. The Kings Cross branch was large and in an attractive location in a pedestrian mall. Despite the size of the place, on a recent Sunday evening it was absolutely packed and very noisy. I did not find it a relaxing experience, but it looked like a fun place to go with a group.
This restaurant was beautifully done, with food to match!
This restaurant was beautifully done, with food to match! We went for breakfast and everything was absolutely fantastic. The chai was perfect, and the bun maska was buttery perfection--ideal for dipping. We also tried the Kejriwal, a spicy chili cheese toast with eggs, and the sausage and egg naan roll. A side of fire toast with butter and jam rounded out the meal. Every dish was flavorful and well-prepared. Our server Sid made the experience even better with his sweet personality and thoughtful recommendations. The spot itself is charming, clean, and a lovely homage to Indian cuisine. It definitely lived up to the hype, and I would absolutely come back again.
Dishoom is probably my favorite restaurant in all of London.
The food is full of flavor and never disappoints. The interior is warm and cozy. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait in a long queue.

I have never had Indian food prior to this but it was a wonderful experience! Our waiter was thorough, attentive, and had excellent recommendations. He went above & beyond to find the type of foods I typically like and recommend appropriate plates. The food was hot & delicious! Highly recommend Dishoom - even if Indian typically isn't your jam. Also - the okra is amazing!! My favorite food from our trip to London. I don't like Okra back home in the US but you must try at Dishoom!
Absolutely fabulous restaurant.
Superb Indian food in a beautiful lively place. Very tender chicken in masala butter sauce with nannan garlic bread and white rice nothing could be better. The Dishoom beer also was a welcome surprise.
Great dinner
Had the loveliest time in Dishoom, Covent Garden. Everything was great, food, drinks and service all fabulous. I would recommend the black dhal that has to be one of my favourite things ever!
Breakfast
Fabulous breakfast and great service. Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary breakfast. Bloody Maryโs were delicious too
Hustling but great restaurant- a must in :LONDON
Make reservations for this place is AMAZING. I have never experienced indian food which was so good. We started with a snack which was a bit spicy and crunchy and so tempting. Then we hand samosa which was fried perfectly and stuffed to perfection. Finally we split a ruby chicken with garlic . Our waitress was amazing and so nicn and was totally on top of things and gave great recommendations. She even surprised us with an anniversary dessert of chile ice cream and chocolate lava cake.]=scrumptious. . Drinks are also delicious so splurge and get one- I would recommend the mango drink. This place is organized, clean and so delicious. A must see in LONDON.But make reservations for the line is long for it is sooooo good. Go downstairs to bathroom and enjoy the spectacular view of the busy and very clean kitchen.
Amazing food, terrible server experience.
The food was beyond amazing. The service however was not good. I am not one to write a negative review ever so I will say the food is great but be aware of the server you get. Our server came over and we were talking to her about her trip to Vietnam, she was very enthusiastic about that. We ordered and then she brought our drinks over and we never saw her again until the check was due, she never came to see how our food was, offer water or anything. She spent her time talking g to the other servers by the door to go inside. The best part was, we asked for take away containers and were putting our items in the containers and as soon as I paid with my card, as I was putting our leftovers in the containers, she piled the dishes on our plate that I was packing and took them away ruining any leftover chances we had. Not a thank you, have a pleasant evening, nothing and As she was leaving our table she was pumping her fist in the air. Not quite sure what that was about but we were extremely polite to her. It was a very bad feeling leaving there as she was the most in attentive and rude server I have had in the city.
Dishoom was a wonderful experience.
All of our friends said it was a must-do when visiting London, and it really was. To start, when we were waiting in line, they handed us free shots of chai tea, which was delicious! We ordered so much food just for 4 people, but it was all worth it. Naan bread, the Chicken Ruby, Butter Chicken, White rice, and Daal. I lost count. Even when we ordered everything mild, it was still a little spicy, so be aware of that. The vibes were on point! Loved the decor, even the women's restroom. The service was top-notch. Our waiter was really nice and helped us with everything we chose on the menu.
Fantastic flavor
Service was great. Food was excellent! One of the most pleasant dining out experiences Iโve had in London. Not to be missed.
Food & Cultural Nostalgia!
Outstanding! Loved the ambiance, food quality and quantity. Lovely nostalgic decor that captures 1950s India. This is a cultural experience.
Great food & vibes! Love coming to receive the friendly
Great food & vibes! Love coming to receive the friendly service too :) Would recommend to friends and family.
Definitely lives up to the hype!
I was approaching the end of my London trip and really wanted to get Indian food one more time. I had heard the hype about Dishoom, but I also had seen the lines out the door each night as I walked around Covent Garden, so I was hesitant. But hunger won, and I jumped in line. To my surprise, they had a hostess working the line collecting names and party sizes. Rolling solo, I got in basically right away. A group would benefit from a reservation though. Once seated, the service was prompt and attentive, and the wait staff were helpful in explaining the menu and providing recommendations. I had an excellent gimlet to pair with my mutton chili fry and naan. The food was fantastic and was easily as good or better than another, more expensive establishment I visited earlier in the week. I ate outside, which was nice given the amazing weather, but I also took a walk through the inside of the restaurant which is very nice. It's a perfect balance of casual and upscale and would work for both types of outings. The restaurant is much larger than it looks with two floors of dining space and bars on each. While it wasn't the swanky, exclusive vibe of my earlier stop, it;s still classy enough to host a business outing or special occasion. My only regret is that i didn't come here earlier in my trip so I could return a second time! Highly recommend as a great balance of food, price, and atmosphere!
Had a reservation.
It was pretty busy at the restaurant overall. Service was good and atmosphere was great for an Indian restaurant. Ordered three dishes total and two drinks came up to 85 quid. Imo over-rated and overpriced for what you get but I will say good quality. Probably won't visit again just due to the value of money
Exceptional service and hospitality with exceptional Indian
Exceptional service and hospitality with exceptional Indian food. The prawns were impeccable, absolutely a must get, as well as the Ruby chicken, which was incredibly tender and perfectly savory. Their one-of-a-kind dessert was also luscious (a delightful combination of perfectly and gently sweetened rice pudding, creme brulee, and blueberry). I suspect the rest of the menu follows the same delectable taste and high quality. Ravi is a gracious and fantastic waiter who made the effort to explain the menu and check in regularly. He has the charisma and confidence suitable for the stage and/or Hollywood. The entire crew from the manager Peter on down exemplifies outstanding teamwork for an obviously busy and well-loved restaurant. Our first dining experience in London (actually all of UK) could not have been better.
The food here is fantastic.
Great vibe. Staff is attentive and friendly. I recommend this place.
Good food and drinks.
The line to get a table for the restaurant always looks long but ended up being a 30 minute wait. We asked the staff if we could wait at the bar and they allowed us to sit at the bar until our name was called which made it nicer than standing outside. The restaurant itself is gigantic- main floor and lower level with lots of tables. Saw some clumsiness with the wait staff where a ceramic dish flew over my shoulder and shattered into a million pieces on the ground, as well as another table where they spilled a couple items on the table and made a mess. Food was good but not memorable. Prices were also good.

I loved dining at Dishoom! Admittedly, the line was very long but it moved fast! The service was hospitable and the food came out quick too! We ordered the okra fries, the chicken ruby and the biryani. I don't know what kind of crack sauce they provide with the okra fries but it got me addicted. The biryani and the chicken ruby are highly recommendable!
Spent 2 weeks in the UK.
By far the best meal I've had. The chicken ruby is to Die for!
Fantastic breakfast, great service and wonderful ambiance.
Highly recommend. Loved the chai!
I don't get it.
What's the big hype? Our hotel concierge provided a list of suggested restaurants which included Dishoom. He implied it'd be busy. So the four of us scurried over last Saturday night around 5:30pm. The line wasn't too long. We were told it'd be a 35 minute wait. No problem. Provided our name and given a pager. We went over to the bar and ordered drinks. Our pager went off within the estimated wait quoted. We sat at a round table. Our server was Sylvester. He was attentive. He said we ought to do family style which was our plan. We ordered: * vegetable samosas - came in three. * the house chaat - small portion. Very tasty * roti - my sister shared an order with my BIL. I didn't get to try it. Would have liked to. * plain naan - I requested an order so hubby and I shared this. Was very charred. How can you go wrong with naan? It came two to an order. Sylvester said they would write it off. We ordered another order. Not as burnt and charred but I've had better. * chicken tikka - very spicy * ruby chicken - Sylvester's suggestion. Said a house special. It was ok. And the most expensive item we ordered. * the house daal - my favorite dish. Went well with the naan. * paneer tikka - thick slices of goat cheese. I liked this dish too. The restaurant offers live music but not while we were there. The lighting is very dimmed and the noise level is very high. It was hard to carry a conversation. Not a place where you want to linger. When we left there was a huge line outside. That's not including the people waiting inside at the bar. I'm not sure I'd go back. Plus no photos as the lighting wasn't the best. The only photo is our beverages while we were in the bar.
This place was incredible.
You must have Indian food in London and this is the place I recommend everyone to come. There was a wait for lunch but it was well worth it.
The food was pretty good.
Loved their small plates. Service was great. Our waiter was kind enough to make suggestions and check on us regularly. We sat outside and it was lovely to see the bustling London shoppers. Bonus: 100% Halal - as per our waiter
We were excited to try Dishoom because of all the hype, but
We were excited to try Dishoom because of all the hype, but I found the overall experience to be a let down. We got in line at around 8 pm on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to be seated within 20 minutes. But the waiting did not stop there, since our food didn't come out for another 45 minutes! Our server was not the friendliest and at times seemed to be avoiding our table. I don't mind waiting for delicious food, but I also found the food itself to be mid and overpriced. - Garlic naan: It tasted fine, but 1 order only comes with 2 small pieces! It looked so silly in the serving tray that I almost thought it was another table's half-eaten naan. Crazy for the price. - Chicken ruby: Their take on butter chicken. This was also fine especially because we were so hungry, but we ran out of naan so quickly we were just eating saucy chicken. I would have appreciated if our server had recommended also getting a side of basmati rice, or perhaps 2 orders of naan. We were hesitant to order rice after the fact because we were not about to wait another 45 minutes for it to come out! - Black daal: Also was fine, but as above, it would have been nice to have more carbs to pair with it. - Chili broccoli salad: This was pretty tasty but portions were oh so small! The ambiance seemed more lively indoors, but white loud, though we were fine with sitting outdoors if it meant a shorter wait time. There are space heaters for the outdoor space, and while it was definitely getting chilly at into the evening, it didn't seem like there was any intention to turn them on (and not a server to be found for us to ask to turn them on!). This is probably a one-and-done for me.
Best food in all of our trip to London and best Indian Food
Best food in all of our trip to London and best Indian Food I've ever had worldwide. Get everything you can and share as much as you can.
Food was absolutely fantastic.
The service was great and fast. And it's casual inside but you can tell it's popular. 10/10 Will come back every single time I'm back in London.
Perfect food, perfect 10/10 service
Itโs not a surprise that the food is amazing. Everything we ate (group of six) made us dance on our chair. Even that critical โfoodieโ friend that everyone has was blown away. Stand out dishes are the chilli chicken, daal & the chocolate pudding (do NOT skip dessert!) What maked our visit extra special was our server Melisa. What a ray of sunshine, whit and advice. She was the cherry on top of our visit. Extreme good service is something you donโt see very often so when it happens itโs a gold lining on a otherwise great evening with great food. Melisa, stay amazing!
VIP treatment
I didnโt attend this place as a customer yet I was treated like I was a VIP. My young daughters (6&9) and I went to see Harry Potter and the cursed child in theatre, But unfortunately after the production my phone was pickpocketed. Using my Apple Watch I noticed it was tracking in this restaurant or nearby. I attended this restaurant explaining the situation to the front of house staff, expecting them to say we canโt help you. Instead, they sat me and my young daughters down, they got my daughters some colouring entertainment and a member of staff offered to stay with my daughters whilst I talked to the manager about my stolen phone. They honestly could not have been more welcoming and helpful bearing in mind I wasnโt even a customer. The manager let me login on to his laptop and mark my phone as stolen and check where it was tracking, which unfortunately it was no longer near this restaurant. The help, warmth and welcoming from this place was honestly tearjerking. They did everything they could to help me even though I wasnโt a customer. Which makes me want to return to this place again and again as a customer. Furthermore, I sent an email to the head office thanking them for their help and support and in return they sent me a make at home naan bread kit. Which was absolutely unexpected but delicious and incredible!! I truly believe this restaurant is not about making money. Itโs more about making their customers happy even if youโre not a customer. :) Thank you so much. I will definitely be ordering more make at home kits from you guys as they are absolutely delicious and we will be coming back to visit you as customers soon.
Dishoom Doesnโt Disappoint!
4 friends recommended Dishoom to me when I arrived in London and I have to say that my expectations were high. I was not disappointed as it was so good! I can still taste the Dishoom chicken tikka with its unique spices. The chicken was moist and came apart on the fork without much force. The waiter recommended the basmati kheer for dessert, which was a great selection. I enjoyed the entire meal and would go back. I didnโt like having to pay extra for basmati rice. I expect to pay for naan, but not for rice. I guess this is the new trend? This restaurant ran like a well-oiled machine! The management does a great job as I noticed the staff were all busy all of the time, but in a positive way. My waiter was stuffy, but he did his job well.
Wonderful Food & Incredibly Attentive Service
This spot is clearly very popular and deservedly so. When we arrived there was a queue out the door and we were told that there was a 20 minute wait, but we were seated sooner than that and it was certainly worth the wait. The food here is excellent, there's a lovely atmosphere inside and the staff were really fantastic, so attentive despite how busy the restaurant was!
A place worth waiting for, worth spending for!
This place is like synonymous with Tasty Indian food in London and waiting here is worth every minute. Their own Aloo chat is awesome and so is the service. It's worth visiting at least once if you are in Indian food fan in London.
Reminescent Indian lunch
Great vibe, very attentive staff. Busy and efficient, very friendly atmosphere. Food came quickly - perfect for a middle of day "quick"lunch. Food was beautifully presented and perfectly spiced and seasoned. Chutneys, including with extra spice heat, arrived as condiments to dial up the heat as required. Fantastic Indian food - suitable for vegan and vegetarians. Will definitely be back for more.
The best Indian food Iโve ever had
Iโve wanted to visit Dishoom for so long and as Iโm in London for work I thought Iโd give it a go at 6pm on a Monday evening. I only queued for 10 minutes and was given chai tea whilst waiting in the queue. The interior is beautiful and buzzy and brings a smile to your face. The waiters are all very friendly. The food. I canโt even describe how amazing the food is. This is hands down the best Indian food Iโve tasted. I had the chicken ruby curry, the broccoli, pistachio, lime and chilli salad, roti and bhat. It was definitely too much for one person but it would have been a travesty to waste it. I then had the melt in the middle chocolate pudding for dessert with chilli ice creamโฆ there are no words! Like pure molten chocolate. I cannot wait to come back and bring my husband! Worth every calorie.
Literally the best
My husband says โliterally the best Indian food Iโve ever had.โ We love Indian food and eat it in every city we can find it, but the flavors here were just perfect. The atmosphere was also fun and romantic. No complains. We waited about 35 minutes to be seated, but it was totally worth it.
Delicious Indian restaurant with character
Lovely food, ambience and service. Friendly and very helpful staff. Helped with allergies too and provided allerternatives
IMPRESSIVE
Wow, third visit here over a period of years. It still delights and impresses me, every member of staff cheery, helpful and extremely professional despite being super busy. The food is SO good , wonderful delicate flavours, the black daal still being my favourite. The busy atmosphere is definitely part of the buzz. Looking forward to our next visit.
Dark weatherspoons canteen feel
Long wait to what turned out to be a weatherspoons canteen. Was fairly near the door which was opening constantly with the large flow of diners. Had the chicken ruby. I know when Iโm tasting Heinz tomato soup and that definitely tasted like it had that in it. Overall food was pretty uninspiring. Much better food at your normal curry house. Came to ยฃ100 for two of us with one drink each. Plus no cobra served here
Superb indian restaurant
This is a very large hotel with great Indian food. Nice exciting vibrant atmosphere in the restaurant Wait is long so keep that in mind. It was raining and we were given the opportunity to wait at the bar That was great since it took us out of the rain. Restaurant is in a nice area of covent gardens. Service was good management was friendly. Prices were good also
Authentic Indian -- didn't disappoint!
Great Indian restaurant -- casual dress is just fine. Service was great and menu has something for everyone. A must if you are in London!
Fantastic date night
Had heard lots of good things about this place so decided to try it out with my partner. Went to the Covent Garden space and they served us hot drinks whilst we queued which was kind, queue was not too long at peak time but the place is absolutely massive! Two gigantic floors and it was completely packed inside. That being said, our waiter was super attentive to us throughout the night, everyone we met was really friendly and accomodating which we really appreciated. They also helped explain the menu and how things worked. We were recommended the house chaat as a starter which was honestly one of our favourite dishes, super refreshing and a really unique mix of flavours with the pomegranate, sweet potato and cool yoghurt. Loved this one! We shared the chicken ruby and the house dhaal with some naans, rice and a couple of sides including the grilled mushrooms - the dhal is brilliant, super rich and comforting but not too filling so you can always go back for more. Mushrooms were nice and well seasoned and the chicken ruby was very creamy. Naans were good, though I wished each portion would have had a bit more. To round things off we had a pistachio kulfi. Very refreshing though a bit pricey for only one. Either way though, we had a wonderful time! Very enjoyable date night and would recommend!
Everything was wonderful
This place had a line out the door constantly and although we didnโt make a reservation, we were still able to get in fairly quickly without having to wait forever. The staff were extremely friendly. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and very kind. He gave us great recommendations. We are both vegetarian and got the Daal with naan, rice and the veg samosas and everything was packed with flavor and very enjoyable. My sister enjoyed her cocktail and I got the mango lassi which was delicious! The prices were fair and the menu is very diverse. I also really enjoyed the interior as its extremely comforting and although its crowded, you donโt really notice as the restaurant is huge and the tables are well spaced out. If I lived in London, Iโd definitely come here weekly.
Better than expected.
Grabbed an early reservation, to try one of the dishes reviewed by the excellent cooking show 'Milk Street'. If you can eat early, reservations are the thing, as when we left there was a line (VERY popular place in London). It was better than we had expected, and our server (Antonio) was extremely helpful and offered some great suggestions. Talked us through the menu items we were interested in, and educated us on several of them. Went there for the 'gunpowder potatoes', but everything we tried was excellent. A great option for people that like 'spicy' foods (my wife) and those of us that like 'flavorful' (not burn your mouth) foods. Definitely added to our list of must-eats when we are in London. We bought their cookbook to try some of their options when we are home in Texas....
Amazing meal with family!
Food was amazing every dish we tried had so many different flavours absolutely delicious. The staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. We are looking forward to going back soon.
Wow this place is incredible! Short line to get in but they
Wow this place is incredible! Short line to get in but they brought us complimentary house chai, which was a great act of service to help us warm up. The food was extremely flavorful and came out hot/quick. The atmosphere & service were fantastic as well. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good dinner spot in the area ir traveling through!
Overrated!
It's okay if you're vegetarian. However, the meat dishes were below average. Staff were also unfriendly and we had to wait a long time for our food.
Beats bacon and eggs!
Booked for 11am breakfast (lunch bookings unavailable for next 3 days!) The breakfast was brilliant. The Keema per Eedu is excellent - chicken and eggs and lovely warm buns ๐ Service warm and welcoming. Dรฉcor adds to a wonderful ambience, with nice touches like Verandah area. You will not be disappointed (I hope).
