Dishoom King's Cross London Reviews
Delightful breakfast and service!
A fantastic experience and delightful food and service. Opted for the bacon and egg naan rolls, and the chai. Lovely change for breakfast and great service and ambience. Loved that it's bottomless chai and that you can try all the options. Great experience!
Carter Girls catch-up
Had a fabulous family meal. Food was great and service was brilliant. Matt was our server. Highly recommend House Chaat, Chicken Ruby and Black Dhaal.
Delicious and hearty breakfast full of spice and character
Went with a group of friends for a hearty breakfast. We did make reservations before hand and were greeted with kindness and a swift action to our table. Recommendations on house favorites were shared by our waiter and they did not steer us wrong! And you have to get a side of the masala beans, ALWAYS. So delicious!
Bad tast in the mouth due to sly server
Food was great but the server (wait ID: 111 on July 20th) automagically added "optional service" of 15% onto the bill but we didn't ask for this. She wasnโt good or anything either. When itโs slipped in without asking, it comes off as sly and not trustworthy. Although food was good, this leaves a bad taste in my mouth b/c it felt she was preying on tourists so beware my fellow travelers. Not planning to return as thereโs many restaurants to choose from.
Visit if you can !
Absolutely fabulous restaurant Excellent food full of flavour and home cooked Waiter we had was excellent and made our experience even more amazing
Good food, authentic Indian food.
Good food with a fantastic ambience , staff is friendly and enthusiastic to explain the food items, seems customers are all enjoyed dining there.
Great food , great service.
Booked Dishoom for the dinner the evening before we left London. The food was great. Best Indian food I ever had. When the waiter heard this is our last dinner before traveling back home, he send a complimentary dessert with a little candle on it. Will come again if we have chance in the future.
Great place for a calm celebration
Cracking food. Everything we had was delicious, the staff were excellent- just the right amount of attentiveness - and the Malbec was suitably robust!

Great place to eat with fab atmosphere
The restaurant was very busy, but I consider this a good sign! We were offered complimentary chai or lemon drink whilst we waited. When we got a table the waitress explained the menu to us and we ordered multiple plates between the 3 of us and the most amazing cocktails. The food was quick to arrive and very tasty and we ordered extra naan, which also came very quickly. The staff were efficient and friendly. I will definitely return. The decor is great, and you feel like you could be in a restaurant in India.
great food, buzzy atmosphere and staff. run by and for enthusiasts.
We meet regularly for Lunch at this wonderful restaurant (six of us, all over 70 and skilled eaters) some of our group are also breakfast regulars. A life enhancing experience This is an old review but all still applies BUT most of us are over 80 !

I've been here twice now and plan to go here every time I'm in London. Yes it has a line. Totally worth it! The dishes are awesome and the black Dahl and rice pudding are not to be missed
Definitely nice food, just overhyped.
Really enjoyed the black daal. I probably wouldn't wait in a long queue for this food.
Food -delicious! Black daal + roomali roti , lamb Biriyani
Food -delicious! Black daal + roomali roti , lamb Biriyani , chicken tikka roll , malai chicken Service - excellent. Irshad was attentive and friendly! Ambiance - cool! Wait time - was a bit, however, we were all served endless mini glasses of chai, alcohol and lemonade! Made the wait easier!
Best Indian food I've ever had - in my top 5 meals I've had
Best Indian food I've ever had - in my top 5 meals I've had in my lifetime. The ruby chicken is unreal, perfect spice level and taste profile - daydreaming about it regularly.
We ate here on the very first night in London.
I had been recommended this place by many people so it was worth a visit. The ambiance was just beautiful reminding me of a pre-independence India. Their attention to detail is amazing. Our kids were tired and hungry but they gave us a comfortable place to wait and some chai too. The service was par excellent. We ordered a few things, mango and saunf lassi was unique and terrific. The pav bhaji was so so. The chilli cheese toast was pretty good as well. Overall the food in the UK is amazing and Dishoom was also great. I think we tried better Indian places though.
My expectations were sky high given all the recommendations
My expectations were sky high given all the recommendations to eat here! The wait time was zero ( which is extremely unusual). The host and hostess were extremely kind - we had 2 additional guests show up and they allowed us to sit together. We ordered a number of dishes and I have rated the dishes based on my favorites : 1) Okra Fries/ Black House Dal - Brilliant! 2) Paneer Roll - tangy and the right blend of spices 3) Mutton Sheekh Kabab - could have used a little bit more flavor punch 4) Murg Malai and Chicken Tikka - good but I have had better 5) Chai / uninspired I am glad I got to try the food here - the ambience and decor brought in me a wave nostalgia of the wonderful Iranian Cafes in Pune that I had been exposed to years back. I will definitely be back if I visit London anytime soon.

For this establishment, I intend to write a review for the location in King's Cross as well, even if I have already written one for the Covent Garden location, since I ordered some different items this time, and my experience was a bit different. While waiting, I enjoyed unlimited cups of house chai, which was excellent because that drink was the bomb! I ended up having about 6 cups while waiting for a table. Their house chai is always a pleasant to have, and I would recommend everyone have some whenever they visit Dishoom! This time I ordered the chicken biryani and the house black daal. Both were just super flavorful in the best way possible. I was not certain if it was lentils in the house black daal, but it looked like some type of legume, and it was extremely soft, which matched their description that it was cooked for over 24 hours for extra harmony. The chicken biryani had a good amount of coriander, garlic, and ginger, and I could taste all of them. The cranberries above gave another layer of flavor that didn't contradict with the existing flavors in the biryani, which was amazing. Service proved to be top notch once again. Our server was intentional in checking with the chef on if any dishes had bananas since my partner had a banana allergy, and in checking with us to see if banana leaves were okay. Even though we didn't end up ordering anything under the grills section, our server's gesture was very appreciated. Once again, highly recommend! I have already tried Dishoom twice in two locations, and both times they were nothing but amazing!
I was so pumped to try Dishoom as I've seen it all over the
I was so pumped to try Dishoom as I've seen it all over the Internet, and my friend raved about it. I heard this is one place to go if you only have a day in London, and I'd eat there whenever you're able to get a reservation for lunch or dinner--totally worth it! We came in at 1:30pm. The restaurant is huge, and the ambiance is lovely. The staff were very welcoming and made good recommendations. This food truly blew me away. For four people, one order of each dish was enough to share for lunch, and we were super full at the end. We skipped drinks and jumped straight to food as we walked the Tower Bridge earlier that day. We started off with two of my favorite appetizers--paneer tikka and chili chicken. Both were so flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. The chicken was so crispy, and the lime added a nice tang. The paneer was soft and marinated nicely. We also loved the ruby chicken, which had a classic butter chicken flavor except so much better quality. The gunpowder potatoes were spicy and made a decent side dish, but not really our favorite. The chicken biryani and garlic naan were so worth it too! Definitely a meal for the books 10/10
First of all, I highly recommend to make reservation at
First of all, I highly recommend to make reservation at Dishoom to avoid long waiting time. We went to King's cross location on Saturday night, and it was more than 1.5 hour wait. The down side was one person of the party had to physically stay in the line to secure the spot. As I know, the wait at other Dishoom locations are 2 hours plus, so I tried to make reservation for the next day at the King's cross location but it wasn't available at the time. We decided to get something else for dinner on Saturday night instead. We came back on Sunday night around 9pm to see if we had a better luck this time. We were told the wait was 1 hour for a party of 3. We had a late lunch so I felt like I was okay for a late dinner. They gave us lemonade/chai when we were in the queue. The line was pretty long when we joined but it moved up pretty fast. 15 minutes later we were able to get inside and received our pager. We were told it would be another 45 minutes wait by the bar. I didn't keep track of the time but I felt like it was about 1 hour wait until we got seated. The ambiance was nice but it's pretty loud. Our server came by quickly and he was very kind. He went over the menu, asked about food allergy and informed it would be 20 minutes wait after we placed our order. Since we already looked at the menu while waiting for our table we placed order immediately to save us time. We got their signature dish House Black Daal, Chicken Ruby, Garlic Naan, and Okra fries. For drinks, I got the mango lassi with fennel and my partner got CBD bhang lassi. Food wise, I absolutely LOVED the Chicken Ruby - it tasted similar like butter chicken, but at another level. I was not a fan of their House Black Daal, but my partner liked it. Apparently, many people liked that dish too. Maybe it's just me lol. Okra fries were a pretty unique concept. I never had fry version before. It was nice that they also offered variety of chutneys - mint, chili, tamarind and date. Mango lassi was very good, and sweet just enough to my liking. We weren't impressed with the CBD bhang lassi. Service was phenomenal and professional. They are certainly busy but they still keep their service at high standard. There was a gentleman ( I assumed manager?) came to check on our table to see if we needed anything else when we almost finished our food. It was a very nice touch. When we left, all the staff thanked us for coming. I was very impressed with their service. When we left around 22:30, there were still people waiting outside. When we walked by Dishoom in Covent Garden location yesterday, the queue was twice as long as the queue at Kingcross. We'd return to Dishoom in the future to try other items but with reservation. The food was good but I don't feel like waiting that long for food.
very average, overpriced food
My friends really wanted to go there for dinner so when we had to queue outside for 45 min and then another 40 min of waiting inside to be seated I thought the food must be amazing... The side salad called KACHUMBER cost you ยฃ5.50 and in the menu is described as: "A messy to-do of cucumber, onion and tomato. A little lime lifts the whole affair" ... When it arrived it was mix of chopped tasteless, hard, supermarket quality cucumber and tomato with a lot of onion, zero seasoning, just tasteless dry pieces of veg in a bowl... The DISHOOM CHICKEN TIKKA was a few small pieces of chicken served on a leaf with mountain of chopped onion on the side.... It pissed me off, it's another overhyped, extremely loud, overpriced "trendy" place in London with average food and pretentious atmosphere. The manager was good at the end, giving some vouchers after we complained. But still it's a mystery to me why people are satisfied with rip-off like this one
Culture shock
Food is overrated & overpricedโฆ u cannot sell ambience for qualityโฆ some reception staff seemed a bit too cocky. Iโve been there last Sunday & again yesterday for Wednesday dinner & donโt think I will be returning soon ! Having grown up in those airy, spacious Irani restaurants in Bombay like Kyani & Bastani & Sassanian in Marine Lines, I was hoping avarice and advertising gimmicks would take second place to Irani value for money simplicity.& old world charm which only the โ urbs prima in Indis โ can provide would stand out in changing times ! I cannot echo Adi Murzbanโs โ Bambara Neri hain โ as I doff my hat to the memories of Reza Shah Pavlavi & Queen Soraya & a plethora of old Bombay Persian traditionsโฆ give me botti kebab & moghlai biriyani followed by bun maska aroma & caramel custard anyday. Good luck! However, some staff like Mangesh, Irma, Lauren & Ankara stand out as your asset โฆ
The best experience!
Dishoom KC was recommended to me by a good friend, so I booked a table for lunch for me and my mum when we visited London for the day recently. I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. My mum has a rather tricky citrus fruit allergy, so when our waiter, Daniel, found out (mum requested no citrus wedge in her drink) the team made a superhuman effort to make sure that she was safe. They were patient and courteous and extremely respectful. It was a refreshing experience as not all establishments are as tolerant. The food was delicious, so flavorful and the atmosphere was fantastic. I am so grateful to Daniel and the team at Dishoom KC for looking after us so well. I will certainly recommend you to anyone looking for an outstanding lunch venue in the future. Thank you!
Food not great.
Service was good. Weird multi level interior . Have had better take away.
Awful
Awful. Two hours after eating here I have been struck with diarrhoea. It's the only food eaten today and felt fine beforehand I had the prawn dish. Very spicy so much as to be too much. Would help if they guided you on the menu as to how spicy it is. I have hearing difficulties so no point me asking the waiting staff as could barely hear them
Excellent food and service
Iโve waited a long time to visit Dishoom. Todayโs visit was not disappointing. The service was excellent (thank you Jamie) food arrived quickly and was excellent. I have their recipe book so was keen to compare my efforts, pleased to say Iโm on the right track. Canโt wait to revisit
Great buzz
Great atmosphere and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was delicious and different to the norm. The food could have been a little hotter but this didnโt stop me eating every last bit.
Exceptional service
My husband and I chose Dishoom to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. The food was phenomenal, as expected. However, what inspired me to write this review was not the food this time, but the exceptional service we received, especially from our server, Naomi. She took the time to thoroughly explain the menu to my husband, who was visiting Dishoom for the first time. Her recommendations were spot-on. The highlight of our meal came when we asked for the bill. After a bit of a wait, we were surprised to receive a complimentary pudding, accompanied by a lovely message written on a napkin. And when we finally received our bill, we found another lovely message on it! We attempted to tip Naomi, but she explained that a service charge was already included, and basically refused our tip. This was a first for us, and it exemplified the first-class service we received throughout our meal. Itโs this level of care that ensures we will return again and again. Thank you, Dishoom and Naomi, for making our 21st anniversary celebration not just memorable, but truly special. โฅ๏ธ
Lunch reservation
We made one of the few reservations available, so managed to skip the long line on a Sunday lunchtime and be taken straight to a table. The decor is interesting - they say it is based on Irani Cafes - but even if you aren't familiar with those it has vibes of Indian railway stations in places and vibes of Indian colonial hotel bars in others. I wasn't coming here looking for an authentic Indian meal, so didn't come with that mind set. It was genuinely good, though. We tried the house chaat. It turned up almost looking drowned in white yoghurt so I was fearing the worst, but in fairness under that layer was a flavoursome chaat that mixed in well with the yoghurt. The chicken tikka was quite spicy and very flavoursome, so high marks for that. We tried the chef's special of malai kofta, which was one of the tastiest malai kofta's I can recall trying in a restaurant, and nowhere near as creamy as I'd feared. The black dhal was also recommended by the staff, so we gave that a go too. It was nice, but if I did it again I probably wouldn't order it. The special filter coffee was really very good. A surprise high to the meal. Would recommend.
Last minute
The host Veer was such a lovely guy, made us feel soooo welcome and the chia tea was nice and sweet. Natalie our waitress was a delight and helpful like Veer was, our menu choice they gave us went down a treat.
This is my favorite Dishoom because it has vegetarian kofta
This is my favorite Dishoom because it has vegetarian kofta as its specialty item - absolutely delicious with great service - I hope they add this as a regular menu item elsewhere
VERY EXPENSIVE GLASS Of WINE!
Lovely food and great service. BUT added a small glass of white wine half way throught the meal - ยฃ13.50 (plus the 12.5% service charge) - ยฃ15 for a small OK glass of wine. Ridiculous!
DISHOOM LIVED UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Great experience from start to finish. Front of house staff welcoming and all staff super efficient on a busy Valentines Day lunchtime. Our waitress helped us choose off the menu. Food was delicious. First visit to Dishoom. Wonโt be our last!!
Simply THE BEST! If you are in London or going.
..make a reservation now!! The whole experience was special with aperitifs while you wait. Excellent service and impeccable food and cocktails.

Service was good, we were seated relatively quickly after being directed to the bar while we waited. Food was ok, not strong with flavors or spice. Loved the creativity throughout the establishment, from the restroom decor to the drink recipes.
Stopped by here on a weeknight.
We didn't make reservations and it was already very busy by the time we got there. So highly recommend making reservations in advance to avoid any waiting time. The service was wonderful. Our server gave us plenty of helpful tips on things to order and was overall very attentive to our dining experience. We tried the samosas, the fennel lassi, the rose lassi, and the watermelon sherbhat. We also tried the black dal, paneer tikka, garlic naan, roomali roti, and chicken curry. The black dal definitely lives up to the hype. The paneer was also very soft and flavorful. Overall, Dishoom lives up to the hype. It's decent Indian food with an authentic ambience.
Marvelous food, efficient service and pleasant atmosphere.
Though the restaurant is huge inside be prepared for a long line--the food and service are so good.
YUM YUM YUM.
Would definitely come back here. There was a long wait (which apparently isn't typical according to others in line). The service was great, they were giving people chai samples as we waited outside for a few minutes. The wait was definitely worth it since the food was incredible!
Dishoom is completely worth the hype! Pro tip: come for
Dishoom is completely worth the hype! Pro tip: come for lunch because they take reservations everyday until 5:45pm. My bf and I both ordered their house chai which was amazing.. best chai I've ever tasted! I also ordered their old fashioned and my bf got the espresso martini which were both good but expensive. We split the vegetable samosas, garlic naan, house black daal and the chicken ruby. The house black daal is INCREDIBLE, it's hard to describe the flavor because it's so unique.. but it's absolutely delicious! The chicken ruby was also really good. The chicken was tender and the sauce tasted similar to butter chicken but with a bit of a twist.
Had reservations here for 4:15, and this was our first meal
Had reservations here for 4:15, and this was our first meal in London. It was already busy by that time and it was a Friday. The food was excellent and the service was great considering how busy they are. We ordered the a couple of entrees and some appetizers. Forgot to take Pictures cuz they were all scarfed down.
100% worth the hype -- the best meal I had in London! I
100% worth the hype -- the best meal I had in London! I went to two locations of Dishoom on my London trip, and this was by far the superior one. As a solo diner, I didn't have to wait long. Once the host coming through the line saw I was alone, he immediately seated me at the bar. Coming alone is a great hack at this location, some folks near me were quoted wait times close to 2 hours! The service at the bar was fantastic. I wanted to try so many items! The house black daal was unreal. Still thinking about it. I loved all the interesting artwork on the walls -- they styled this industrial location as an Indian godown and the music was on point too. So glad I stopped by and I can't wait to go back!
Not your usual Indian
This is an unusual and trendy place and is very popular. The restaurant is large, rambling and purposefully ramshackle. It seems to be based on a Bombay street market. The dishes are really for sharing although there are mains and smaller courses. The service is exceptional in an American style although not requiring the excessive American tip. I had 2 small portions of crispy prawns and a chicken tandoori type dish. They were unusual and more than enough for 2 as a starter. Beware that the chicken was quite spicy and the waiter soon sorted that out for me with a delicious raita dip. Overall very enjoyable with a bill of ยฃ30 including tip and a large Kingfisher beer.
The level of service was some of the best I've ever experienced
Now the food quality at Dishoom is never going to be questionable, it never misses a beat however the real stand-out star on this occasion was the service. I can't express in words how smooth the service was. From being given hot drinks outside whilst we waited (which is common, but still a nice touch to do from a company), to getting inside and sitting downstairs in the bar - the connectivity of the team was almost theatre like, everyone was so happy and knew exactly where we were supposed to be going/what we ordered. Honestly, 10/10 experience. Dishoom truly will never disappoint you.
Wonderful experience.
Great food, fantastic service and excellent value. The Persian influenced Bombay cuisine was fantastic. We were made to feel like we were the only guests there. Our server, Layla, was outstanding . Wonderful experience.
Class is permanent
My wife and I had waited throughout the whole pandemic for our first experience of Dishoom. The service was friendly, non-patronising and absolutely on point. The food was excellent and varied. Not a surprise that as we left, we saw a long queue waiting for a table. Dishoom presents as a fine dining place. The standard Indian menu is a distant memory. Weโre planning to return.
Thank you NAOMI for excellent recommendations and guiding me to enjoy something new!
Another awesome foodie and exceptional service experience - this is my favourite Dishoom - consistently incredible food, kindness and just the best staff. Thank you to them all but especially Naomi who always goes above and beyond x
Outstanding food, brilliant service
First time at Dishoom, and it did not disappoint. Fabulous friendly service and exceptional food. The lamb samosas and Chicken Berry Britannia were absolutely delicious. As was the chai latte. As a party of 8, we were able to pre-book and beat the queues. But this place is so good, Iโd happily queue any time!
So excited. So very disappointed
I was so excited to finally be going to Dishoom. I didnโt even get through the door. Having worked in the hospitality industryโs finest for over 2 decades I believe I understand the stresses and strains that are encountered. However, I can honestly say I have never been spoken to so rudely, met staff that couldnโt care less and been treated with such disrespect. Dishoom are clearly about bums on seats, get โem in and get โem out and the revenue. The staff are poorly trained. Have no idea how to manage a restaurant, speak to guests and are clearly only focused on the revenue. Customer Service couldnโt be further from their minds and their reservation/queuing/seating policy is truly amateur. Shame on you all.
Superb as ever
My second visit to Dishoom Kings Cross, this time with my three sons, as two of us had recently had birthdays, so a nice day out with lunch , Dishoom is so authentic and tasty, with great choices , one son had the vegan menu and the other two and I shared a wonderful selection of โsmall platesโ plus I had the Traditional chai which I love, plus a rose and cardamom lassi. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, the ambience is great , Iโve re booked for April when I meet up with a friend , canโt wait !!! Oh yes โฆ Iโd book if I were you , the lunchtime queue of non bookers was HUGE !!!
Great experience
Delicious breakfast naans! If youโre looking for a beautiful spot for a quick breakfast Dishoom is your spot! Assam yea was delicious too. My husband and I really loved the decor, what a place!
