Authentic
Dolo was recommended as one of the better restaurants in Chinatown & I had a pleasant experience. The welcome was warm & service polite & efficient. It felt like an authentic experience in that the place was jam packed with local Chinese people & the food was straightforward & unfancy. Canโt say it was one of my best Chinese meals, but it was good enough. Dolo doesnโt look much, inside or out, actually itโs rather scruffy on the outside, as is the area in general, which I didnโt much like. Unlike Chinatowns in say, London & Manchester, which are a compact & colourful part of the city centre, Chicago Chinatown is a sizeable neighbourhood & around 15 minutes drive from downtown.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous, with one exception
Waited a long time to get a table for 2 but noticed some people had reservations so you might want to call. Was definitely worth the wait. All of the food was great and tasted freshly made on premises as represented, with the exception of the soup dumplings. For those they cooked and served each in a tiny foil-tin cup in the steamer basket. What must have seemed ingenious at the time did not take into account that the bottom of the soup dumpling stuck to the bottom of each tin, without exception, so there was no way to remove the dumpling without compromising it and the liquid leaking out. So while I would not say this is the best soup dumpling place in town, the other dumplings like the corn/shrimp, shumai, and pot stickers were superb in taste and quality. The shumai was the tastiest I have ever experienced and I have not typically been a fan. The shrimp/corn pan fried dumpling was a revelation. Everything else was superb as well: ribs in black bean sauce, stir fried thin noodles, radish cakes, The short ribs were to die for. Strangely, no char siu pork. Staff was super friendly and worked very hard to accommodate the crowds. There are no carts, but the food comes quickly from the kitchen. Its hotter and fresher that way anyway I find. All in all a great place, worth repeat visits. I would be happy to come back here a hundred times and have no soup dumplings: it was that good.

It was a great experience. The place is nicely decorated. The food was just delicious! We didn't have to wait too long. 100%!

We had dimsum for dinner. We had pork ribs, shrimp dumpling, lotus steamed rice, steamed pork wrapped in tofu and pork siopao. All of them are very good. Better than Phoenix, Minghin and Three Happiness.
Be the first to ReplyDim Sum waiting time: almost one hour, but worth it
We arrived in a Sunday noon, put our name in the book, 14 people before us. We waited outside of the restaurant first, then we moved inside because we thought when it got closer, we could be seated right away.
Half hour passed, only 6 people in front of us, the bar seats got busy, we had to move more towards inside, some tables were done eating but still enjoyed chatting, since itโs a dim sum place you canโt blame them.
Finally we got our table, since we waited for so long, we ordered so much more food to justify out time, fortunately dishes were delicious and we knew the waitresses were trying their best, we witnessed the shortage of manpower during pandemic era, but happy to see them doing well.
My best Dim Sum away from home!!!
It was on Monday, but this place was already crowded at opening hour!!! We did not wait much long! The foods were so good, tasty!!! It located right by the new section of the new Chinatown. You can walk to the Old main section in distance. You can find plenty of foods and drinks in both sections. You will love it here!

Wanted a place with some outdoor seating and Dolo is a rare find for a Chinese restaurant. There is about 6 tables in a garden. A bonus was the great dim sum. Some of the best I've had. I also got a congee. I would say that was more average. It lacked ingredients.
Be the first to ReplyDelish spicy rice
I enjoyed my spicy rice dish but sadly my sisters did not like their orders which is so disappointing. They had beef & chicken dishes and there was something not quite right about the dishes. Perhaps it was just their orders ....
Be the first to ReplyVery Good
We came on Christmas Eve which may be a partial explanation for what seemed a very confused service situation. Full bar, but no bartender so no mixed cocktails, for example. But all the service people tried to please on a busy night. Parking was quite bad as it is in most of the Chinatown area.
In general, the food was very good. The Triple Delight was excellent. So was a beef and noodle dish. We had a ginger and garlic chicken dish which was disappointing. The chicken seemed like cut up portions of chicken wings and the dish was just not very tasty unless you got a big biteful of ginger. I'd like to come back for dim sum.
Food In China Town
Flew in from Charlotte to do some eating did Greek, Pizza, & this place in Chinatown, this is not on the main drag, this was the best asian food I have had. We ordered Appetizers of pork dumplings they were very good, then Wonton Soup and Sweet and Sour Soup both excellent most of the time lucky to get 1 or 2 wontons we had 4 in the small serving . Then we shared Beef dish, Chicken with vegetables, Pork & vegetables, and Scallops with squid. Everything was great. We thought they made a mistake because we ordered the small portions and what they brought seemed like a family dish, however no mistake. everyone was full and had plenty to take home for a second meal.
1- come hungry
2- brush up on Chinese they speak some english but .....
3- we were the only non Asian patrons so we knew we found the right place.
also prices very reasonable.
note dont be in a rush food is prepared after order so give yourself some time to enjoy.
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!
This restaurant was a huge disappointment!! Service is absolutely horrible and disgustingly rude!!! The wrong dish was brought to our table and when it was brought to our waiter's attention, he became furious and shouted "F**K YOU!"
We had a simple order of fried rice, salt & pepper tofu, and baked chicken. The restaurant was not even busy and the mistake should have been handled differently. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome because all of a sudden after the incident no one understood English or Chinese. There was no compensation for the incorrect dish being brought to our table except 4 small bowls of white rice (which was quite pathetic). This restaurant does not care to about their customers and I will never come back.
Dim sum
Great for dim sum, i just wish they had more options available. The place was very clean. The service was pretty quick.
