It's a rustic modern Italian dining experience here at Doppio Zero. I was a few years late to try this place. They have a good range of Italian dishes, pizza, pasta and more, at a fairly reasonable price. Fungo Pizza is always a must try for me and it did not disappoint. I did enjoy their version with chili flakes, adds more flavor to the simplicity of the mushroom pizza. I like the wild mushrooms that they used, i think it's beech mushrooms, if not maybe enoki. The pizza size is pretty big, good for sharing 2-3 people. The Melanzane alla Parmigiana is also good. The eggplant is really soft to eat. It's a little bit saucy than I'm used too. Also tried the truffle fries and i like its thin cut and just light touch of truffle. The service was good and fast for lunch time. They are attentive to refills and checks on the table a good number of times. It's nice to find a place I can go to if I crave Italian cuisine with good food, reasonable price, and accessible location.

Service was not great! Pizza barely has any sausages on there.. the calamari dish was very tiny. Will not come back!

View the food never disappoints and the service is always on point. Great place for every occasion drinks with coworkers or family dinner, also a great date night.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the better restaurants on Castro.
With so many options, this is definitely in the top five on that street - for quality, service, ambiance, and price/value. Hard to hit on all of these but Doppio does. I would say their calamari and pizzas are top notch. Calamari perfectly breaded and fried. Pizza has amazing crust, flavor and texture. Highly recommend!

Delicious food and great service! Although there was a line it did not take long for them to seat us. I definitely will be back.

Food is good but not at the level of an authentic Italian one Loved the pizza so would recommend the Fungo one Service is very good, waiters are very welcoming and helpful. Quality/price is ok

Really good food and service!! 100% recommend for lunch or dinner the pizza is amazing, and pasta too!
Be the first to ReplyAtmosphere was fun, lost of big groups and an excellent bar.
Pizza sauce and crust were delicious. Pasta was rich and filling. Bartender made me a special drink of their choice and it was amazing! Came on a Tuesday night around 7pm and still packed!
Be the first to ReplyBeen coming year for a year and it still is in our top 3
Been coming year for a year and it still is in our top 3 Bay Area pizza places, and that is saying something! We recently tried a few new dishes that I had to document since they were fantastic. The bruschetta may have been my favorite bite of the night. If you're debating it, get it. Also tried the truffle fettuccine and it was amazing! If you're a fan of mushrooms, the fungi pizza was delicious. However, as always I highly recommend the doppio pizza. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyIt breaks my heart to write this review but this restaurant
It breaks my heart to write this review but this restaurant single handedly tanked our engagement dinner. Doppio zero had been my favorite restaurant on Castro St. I've been there several times with friends, and coworkers, and always had a decent meal. This was not the time. My fiance planned a surprise proposal with a reservation ad Doppio Zero because he knows how much I liked it. He specified in the reservation that we were recently engaged and celebrating it. We literally got there within about 30 mins of our engagement. Not only did we not get any acknowledgment, they said they didn't even know if they had a table for us. WHAT? we have a reservation! My fiance let them know we had a reservation and specified a celebration. They finally seated us and our server was brusque and short with us all night. Our food came out consistently cold and they were taking plates away before we could even finish. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Neither of us are from the Bay area so we didn't have a big group to celebrate with in person since we're pretty new here. So to have such a horrible first outing when celebrating something so happy was upsetting to us both. My fiance knew how sad I was by how the evening went, so he made a reservation the following night at Cucina Venti in Mountain View and literally wrote the exact same thing in the reservation. When we arrived they had roses, a placard, and gave us a complimentary dessert. It's not even that we expected to get free things, just to be treated like wanted patrons at the restaurant on what was one of the happiest moments for us.
Be the first to ReplyI only have amazing things to say about this restaurant!
I only have amazing things to say about this restaurant! When I first walked in I was slapped in the face with the amazing smells of fresh pasta and pizza. The family oriented atmosphere created a nice peaceful touch which allowed for a pleasant interaction with my friends. Upon entry I was deterred by the long line but was thrilled when I was sat within 3 mins. Overall, I was extremely impressed with my Margherita pizza it was lite crispy and the sauce and cheese was perfect. My friend ordered Marechiaro and was also delighted with the balance and overall execution of the meal. We will be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyIt's not bad, but complete different than a NY style pizza
It's not bad, but complete different than a NY style pizza with super thick and stretch chewy crust. It's not a bad chew but had the same texture as a super glutenous bread with good char from the pizza oven. I personally liked the Montanara pizza because it had a fresh and light tomato sauce topped with fresh mozzarella and basil - basic but done well. I was drawn to this pizza because the dough was suppose to be half fried and half in the oven but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. The Mortdella pizza was pretty unique and different but pack good flavor between the meat and the cheese. I liked that the mortadella was not too salty like some deli meats can get and the burratta cheese was super creamy, but it seems a bit muted in terms of flavor. I like the innovative style of pizzas that they make and the nice atmosphere, but some of combos were not as impressive as they sounded like.

Found our new go to spot for Neapolitan pizza!Today was pizza day per my daughters request and we decided to try someplace new. We always walk past this spot when hitting the hot pot places on Castro and have been wanting to try it.As usual, we ordered the calamari appetizer, and it's the best calamari we've had in a while. Perfect tenderness with just a hint of a chew, and completely crispy breading with the right amount of salt. The only thing that could have made it better was a better dipping sauce, but it was good enough that we finished it with just a squeeze of lemon. The staff was phenomenal, especially the manager, Francesco, he happily answered my food nerd questions about the dough and their oven. And the star attraction, the pizza....Hands down the best cornichone (crust) we've found in the Bay Area. Perfectly fluffy and airy with the right amount of leopard spots. You can taste the top notch ingredients as well, everything was fresh and delicious. We ordered the jalapeño pizza, and it was delicious, but not as spicy as we would like, but never fear, they provided chili oil which was fantastic! I'd buy a bottle if possible. They even made a Mickey Mouse pizza for my daughter!Dessert was a tiramisu, it exactly what we looked for, just enough sweetness but not too much. Overall, extremely happy with this place from the food to the outstanding service. We will definitely be back!

Normally I like the food here but after coming for my birthday dinner not sure if will be coming back. Ordered the short rib fettuccine and Il Ragu. The Il Ragu was incredibly under cooked and had to send it back. When it came back it was the same amount of uncooked and raw in the middle ( look at photo below ). The short rib fettuccine was good even though it also was a little undercooked. We started with the little gem salad which was good as well. The servers where attentive and the food came out quick. The ambiance was a bit overwhelming with loud pop music playing. Overall disappointing but will probably come here again to see if there is any improvement.
Be the first to ReplyThe pizza is a thin crust and is very soggy in the middle.
The outside crust is thicker and chewy which was good but they need to find a way to cook and keep the middle from being so wet. Everyone else enjoyed the past but I'd avoid the pizza.
Be the first to ReplySO Doppio Zero has been on our radar for a while and we
SO Doppio Zero has been on our radar for a while and we finally made it to see what the fuss was about. It met expectations and were it not for an errant app, it would have easily made 5 stars Burrata: aka the app that went rouge. The burratta was rich and creamy, the bread was nice and fresh. So why the loss of a star? The truffle honey was way too much. It overpowered everything and it was hard to shake from the palate to taste anything else. Polpettine: Nice moist meatballs full of flavor in in a spicy tomato sauce. The sauce helped to balance the richness of the meatballs. Using the perfectly toasted bread in the sauce was heaven. If they offered it I would order just bread and sauce Salmone Alla Griglia: I did not taste it so it was not part of the review but its presentation was nice. My wife liked it but the salmon was perfectly cooked but on the small side. Little Gem: So basically a Caesar. The greens were fresh and the fermented anchovies was a nice addition (hard for me to resist). Aside from that for my palate I would have liked a bit more acid int he dressing but it was otherwise fine The Pizza: Salsiccia: Nice balance of meat with the spicy (or not so) adding a bit of a rich kick to the pie. The sauce was assertive enough to say "hi" but not overpower anything. The peppers and onion helped balance out the richness of the sausage. The crust was perfect. Diavola: Excellent pie. The crust and sauce were as before. The chorizo had a nice spicy kick to it and the fresh arugula not only added heat but perfectly played with the over the top richness. The ingredients were all to notch and fresh., With this kind of pizza it is all but impossible to hide bad stuff as the flavors on the pies are so clean. Service was on point.

You know I can't give a good review yet, but so far it's been pretty incredible! I still need to try a variety of their dishes that they give! I've mostly tried out all of their pizzas and each one is amazing! They are quick and have great customer service. Weather it comes down to ordering online or dining in, the food always comes out great! The feel for the place is warm! I like the area and the interior! I am definitely going to come back to keep trying all of their dishes!
Be the first to ReplyDoppio Zero is a tricky place to review.
I think I would give it a 3.5 stars but I will round up to a 4. Even though my overall impression was positive on the restaurant, the pizza itself had an "over-arching" sogginess and wetness that I don't normally experience with pizza. This might be the classic or true way this type of pizza is supposed to be prepared but I wasn't use to it.We came as a party of 6 and this is what we ordered. I'll mark a star on the items I thought were worth ordering again.Appetizers:1.) Polpo alla Griglia***2.) Truffle French Fries - One order is good for 3 people imo for its portion sizeSalad:1.) Little Gem SaladPizza: (Not huge, but one pizza can be split into 6 slices)1.) Jalapeno Pizza***2.) La Carne Pizza***3.) Margherita Pizza + Add AnchoviesDessert:1.) Panna Cotta***2.) Tiramisu3.) Limoncello CakePolpo Alla Grigalia - Their octopus dish I thought was superb. Octopus was cooked well and had a nice balanced flavor to it.Jalapeno Pizza - This was the least soggy of the 3 pizza's we got and I really enjoyed how flavorful the Italian Salami was whenever I bit into it. Even though it's a Jalapeno pizza, I didn't think it was spicy at all.La Carne Pizza - Can't go wrong with this pizza if you like meat. Very tasty Spanish Chorizo and Italian Sausage. It's the 2nd soggiest pizza we got with the Margherita pizza being the soggiest.Panna Cotta - Highly recommend this dessert as other reviewers have said. Great milky vanilla cream custard with a good balance of berries sauce. Usually Tiramisu desserts win my heart but this was the star dessert of the night. Some notes/tips:1.) Reservation via Open Table was a breeze and they honored my request of sitting inside. We sat down immediately after we checked in as well which is always appreciated.2. Gratuity of 20% is automatically added into your bill if you have a party of 6+. Just a heads up in case you don't notice. The restaurant itself does a good job of not overcharging you as well as the "additional gratuity" is much smaller since they already included it.[[ Conclusion ]]The restaurant is extremely busy and was packed on a Saturday night. Good indoor/outdoor seating and the vibe is energetic. Not sure if I would go back just for the food but it's a nice place to hang out with friends.

Went out for a date night in Mountain View and wanted to go for a Michelin-Star restaurant. I never went out to a fine dining restaurant that mainly focuses on pizza, but there's a first time for everything. Of course, I didn't just get pizza.Fungo Pizza (5/5): I prefer white sauce on pizza so I was excited that they had a section of their menu dedicated to it. This pizza has wild mushrooms, goat cheese, fontina, thyme, truffle oil, and Italian. I loved the mushrooms and the truffle oil paired so well with it and the crust. The crust was very chewy and was balanced with the chewiness and crunch to perfection.Marechiaro (5/5): I love seafood and pasta, so I had to get this. The spaghetti was infused with squid ink which was very interesting. I loved the roasted garlic tomato sauce as it gave this steamy taste that reminded me of eating by the waters. The seafood portion was very generous and a dub!I definitely recommend this place if you want something a bit fancy and craving pizza. Don't forget about the complimentary bread that will be served upon request.
Be the first to ReplyBeen here twice now and the food is fantastic.
Be careful on busy nights and service can lack.
Be the first to ReplyThe pizza is 1/4 empty.
No sauce and ingredients. I ask for side of tomato sauce and they charge me $4! See photo.Ok place. Again, very crowded and I literally hear every conversation the people who sit on both sides. Worst than McDonalds.Food come fast, but we saw 1 tables just order 1 fries for 2 ppl and 2 drinks. The other just order 2 appetizers and 2 drinks. Not sure if they can make enough money.

Randomly dropped by on a Friday night w/o a reservation and we only had to wait 25 minutes (group of 5), which was easy while walking around the busy street! After we ordered, our food came all at once and it was SO good. One of the best Italian places around. * Pistachio pizza - Really liked the cheese combo here, but the pistachio paste was very subtle and more like an aftertaste.* Wild Boar Fettuccine - Handmade noodles I believe, that were so soft and yummy. There was also the perfect amount of sauce and meat where it wasn't overbearing or too heavy. * Calamari - A classic starter, but it was just so delicious here. They had pretty big pieces and included shrimp! Ordered delivery here before and highly recommend the ravioli and il ragu. Would definitely come here again :)

Their Margarita pizza is what I'd highly recommend. Ravioli is great too.

Francesco and his staff are awesome! We had a family dinner here the other night, and we had great food and a great time! We had wine, Prosecco, pizza, lots of appetizers, some pasta dishes, and (yum!) panna cotta! We are a picky extended Italian-American family! Our waitress (don't know her name, but she's Colombian) was the sweetest and most attentive. We loved her!!! Very happy to have her serve our table! Can't wait to return!
