Dim sum disappointment
This is the worst dim sum I have had that wasn't frozen. No spicing, bland and an odd taste though out. Give it a miss, really.
Be the first to ReplyNice Chinese Restaurant in the Aloha, OR area
We stopped into the East Harbor Restaurant for the first time since it was changed into a Chinese Restaurant a few years ago. We ordered some dim sum and a couple of combination dinners. They offer an extensive menu so it was hard to make a selection of meals. Between the great food and the service, we will be back real soon. Not sure why we haven't tried this place before now.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and Dim Sum
I ate here for lunch and I feel that the food quality and cleanliness is better than other nearby Chinese restaurants. The dining room is large with high ceilings, and the decor looks more like a steakhouse than a Chinese restaurant. This would be a good place for business meetings or with a group of coworkers. For lunch they had a dim sum cart, which is a nice bonus. I thought the food was very tasty, and the hot and sour soup that came with the set meal was excellent.
I can confirm that the service was slower compared to other Chinese places in the area. But, you can order dim sum while you are waiting. I definitely think it's the best Chinese restaurant in the city of Aloha, although there are better Chinese restaurants in the nearby cities of Beaverton and Hillsboro. So, if you are in the Aloha area you can't go wrong with East Harbor.
Lunch with Friend
Had a very good lunch of wonderful Chinese food, Canton style. There is a wonderful assortment of dishes , a large variety of seafood and a great dim sum menu. Also very vegetarian friendly.
Staff was very helpful and very attentive. Plus there is a generous rewards program.
You must stop in and bring your appetite.
Bad bad bad
Bad service. Slow and inattentive wait staff. Only a few items on dim sum cart. Poor quality food. They should stop offering dim sum as it’s a waste to try to enjoy it when you’re begging them to bring items. I will never eat here again. It was soooo disappointing.

We had a wonderful dinner here with friends last night. A fresh lobster was pulled from the tank and cooked up perfectly. The General Tso's is to die for and the Chinese broccoli is very tasty. We also had the shrimp fried rice, which was extremely good. The Chef even came to the table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a good meal.
Be the first to ReplyGood dim sum, very good dinner option
East Harbor is located where The Keg used to be on the north side of the Tualatin Valley Highway just west of SW 185th Avenue. Like our perennial favorite in Beaverton, East Harbor offers dim sum and lunch/dinner Chinese menu choices.
We tried their dim sum for lunch, but I wanted to wait until we had tried them for dinner before submitting my input.
East Harbor's dim sum is very good, although our favorite Chinese restaurant in Beaverton offers a broader selection and in our opinion, our favorite Beaverton Chinese restaurant's dim sum still has an edge on flavor and quality.
We were impressed with the quality of the lunch and dinner entrees at East Harbor. We quickly learned that their Singapore noodles are excellent. Another metric we found to be excellent is their beef chow fun (dry--no gravy). The actual serving is much better than the photo they have in their menu.
Overall a good option for Chinese entrees, but second place for dim sum.
Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Service is traditional Chinese, which means less cordial and somewhat terse. The restaurant is relatively large and clean in appearance. Parking is good and access is convenient. We will be back if we are looking for lunch or dinner and are in the area.
Painstakingly slow service. The food overall is pretty good though.
Went here with family for a birthday dinner recently. Overall this place has decent food with hits and misses, but the service was painfully/ridiculously slow. Yes we were a big group, but the restaurant itself was not busy at all. They took our order pretty much one dish at a time and would take it to the kitchen and come back to get another person’s order. As one would expect after a decent wait all of our food came out one dish at a time. To-go boxes took about 10-15 min. to arrive. Luckily I paid with cash, but for the ones that didn’t, it was another 10-15 min. to pay with their cards. Fyi, they have a two credit cards per table limit, so if you are in a big group and you want to split checks, keep this in mind.
Now to the food….I personally ordered the egg flower soup, pork fried rice and the orange chicken. The egg flower soup wasn’t bad it just wasn’t what I like about egg flower soup. It has a strong corn taste to where it basically tastes like corn chowder. Overall, I didn’t end up finishing it. The pork fried rice was really really good. Some of the best I have had. I would highly recommend it. The orange chicken, was good not great. A little on the sweet side. All other dishes were enjoyed overall by everyone though on the pricey side. I did not like the fact that the entree dishes don’t come with white rice, instead that is extra. The dishes were also very adventurous while still having some of the staples to try.
I doubt I will be back to this place, just based on the slow service received, but the food overall was pretty good.
Better on the Weekend?
It was empty. The dim sum was larger than many and just as tasty. Great hot chile sauce: not spicy at all. However, there were few selections, and food was not hot. They are not getting the crowds that two nearby dim sum places attract. This might be the service. They try very hard, but flies in the restaurant and a server who stood by the table the entire time were discomfiting. The flies possibly can't be helped, unless they want to use dangerous sprays. But constantly standing so close is neither common nor welcomed when friends are together for conversation.
This was our third visit, and we wonder if they will change their notions of attentiveness to include providing hot food, a more discreet service, and enough dim sum variety to keep them from saying "Only on the weekends" as we inquired about one of these little snacks after the other.
Great Chinese Food
Super impressed with this new restaurant! Very attentive wait staff, extensive menu, and fabulous food. A friend of mine tested this restaurant out a week ago and said it was a "must visit." I wholeheartedly agree. I don't think I've had better Chinese food ... ever.
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly good food. Prices weren't too bad.
On Saturday, April 22nd, my wife and I entered this restaurant for the first time. We were there to discuss business, and relive great memories with friends.
As soon as we pulled up, someone was begging for change right at the front door of the restaurant. This was a new person begging for change, as usually the same people beg for change up and down Tualatin Valley Highway. We gave him some change, and promised to return with some food for him when we were done with our meal. We always like to help people out, if they are really in need.
Entering the place, I wasn't sure what to expect. This building has changed hands many time over the decades. My sister and all of my cousins worked there for years back when it was a Sea Galley Restaurant. Later, they continued working there when it turned into The Keg Restaurant. After that, it was Cooper Mountain Grill, and even more recently, it was The Spot for a short time. Then, it was empty. It's a very large building, and some of the previous incarnations used the size to their advantage. I was surprised, then, when I entered the building this time, and found that East Harbor doesn't appear to be overly large inside, for some reason. I recognized the floor plan, of course, but it's nothing like it used to be. For starters, it's a lot brighter in there now than it was back when it was Sea Galley or The Keg. That's not a bad thing, as the overall setting of the those two were on the darker side.
So, we sat down, and immediately discovered the language barrier that I've seen reported previously about the place. It's there, and it could cause something of a struggle for some patrons in the ordering. This time, it wasn't that much of a problem. The waiters and waitresses are patient, and will stick around until they are pretty sure they have the right order in mind for what you want.
Speaking of the right order, the menu is fairly impressive, featuring many dishes I've never heard of, or imagined anyone would want to eat. The term "Authentic" springs to mind, instantly, upon viewing the pages and pages of items on the menu that I'd never try, myself. Jellyfish spaghetti sounds absolutely frightening, but it's in there, and the photo that accompanies it gives me the impression that the spaghetti noodles on it are arms from the jellyfish, itself.
There are pictures for every dish, so you have a good idea what you are getting. The photo for the Egg Flower Soup and the Fish and Corn Soup are the same photo. Also, there are several instances where things are misspelled on the menu, and I've seen this in other Chinese Restaurants, too, so it's no big deal. The misspellings weren't enough to confuse me on what it was supposed to be.
The food came out quickly, and I was very surprised by how good it was. I ordered the Egg Flower Soup, and it had a lot of corn in it, which is ok. It made me wonder though if it was the right order, since the menu showed the same picture for this and the fish and corn soup.
The beef fried rice I ordered was very tasteful, which I appreciated. I also ordered egg rolls, which turned out to be spring rolls, but were still good.
My wife ordered a Beef Noodle thing that she really liked. I thought it was passable, but slightly bland.
One of my friends ordered the Orange Chicken. My son orders Orange Chicken at every Chinese Restaurant he goes to, so I purposely avoided it on the menu, just because it almost always tastes the same everywhere, and no longer does it for me in terms of satisfaction. At East Harbor, though, I'm going to have to remember that this isn't the case, because the Orange Chicken here is different, very tasteful, surprisingly so, in fact, and left me wishing I'd ordered that, instead of the egg rolls.
The size of the orders is also pretty good. The cup of soup I received was larger than any other Chinese Restaurant soup cup size in the area, for sure. It seemed to be, anyway. The dishes that we ordered, since it was a Saturday, were all of the dinner menu, since they didn't do lunch on the weekends. Each order took up an entire plate, and were sizeable enough for sharing, which we did. The prices on the dishes weren't too terribly bad, either.
I will come back to this location, in time, I'm sure. I'm a lot more positive I'll return to the East Harbor than I ever wanted to return to Cooper Mountain Grill. I never even went into the place when it was called The Spot. This newest incarnation of the old Sea Galley building is a good one, and if you're looking for Authentic Chinese dishes, you'll find them here.
