Eleven City Diner Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
I like this space.
It's got a great atmosphere and energy. The waits are always long, but the staff is honest and they are funny if you're close to the front where the microphone is. They have this awesome candy counter that has some great vintage candies. The serving sizes are large and enough to take home if you're not super hungry. The staff was so sweet and accommodating to my god-daughter and her baby cousin. They were kind and sweet, even gave them little drink umbrellas to keep them occupied during the wait. Like I said, the waits are long, but they're totally worth it. Don't be rude or mad that the wait is long, just prepared.

What a great place to have a delicious meal! From the moment my family and I stepped into the restaurant, we loved our experience. We were greeted by the owner/mgr who made us feel like family. Love the atmosphere - so many things to look at and the music playlist was so much fun! Our server picked our meals and they were delicious; my favorites were the potato latkes, the challah French toast, Bubbie's matzoh ball soup and the melt in your mouth corned beef. I rolled myself to the door (never happily ate so much), only to be sidetracked by the nostalgic candy shop area. Love! Worth the wait and the calories!

One of my favorite diners in chicago! Their soup and French toast are so good!! Great spot to dine in and great service but I also routinely get delivery from doordash for lunch and it's equally as good!!
Busy diner near Roosevelt station.
Walking distance from museums. Portions are enormous so only go if you are hungry. Good food, very fresh, legit Jewish deli items. Expect a wait on weekends.
walked in and asked for a table.
told we could sit at the bar now or wait 10-15. we decided to wait and took a little walk. want to say that there were 3 empty tables in the front with a reserved sign on them. we came back in ten minutes and again was offered the bar right away plus there was one table in the center of the entrance essentially. a 4-top came in and they were given the 10-15 minute notice. after about 5 minutes they were sat at one of the empty tables in front that had been vacant for about 15-20 minutes. a couple seats at the bar, that i could sit at, opened up and we were sat. ordered a bloody mary and the server rattled off 3 vodkas and we chose one. the bm was 13 dollars but unbeknownst to us, there was a 2 dollar charge for the vodka we chose. no one said a word. the food was better than okay but not anything special. we ordered the rueben and the avocado turkey club. like i said, it was okay. check came and we paid, we tipped using the offered 20% choice on the servers machine. our check was $75 and the added tip showed over $20 dollars. now its been a while since i was in school but 20% of $75 is not 20 dollars, its $15 dollars. we spoke to the manager who adjusted the tip amount but did not remove the $4 extra for the two bloody mary drinks that we ordered and charged an extra $2 per drink without two servers mentioning an up charge. pay attention to your check if you go there. and choose the customer tip option if you use the machine.
Horrible service! I was hungry but all alone.
They were empty and could have given me a nice seat - but chose not to. I complained and they didn't care. I walked out. Their low rating is deserved

Busy place but staff was very attentive and polite, Great experience overall, big portions plates. My sandwich was recommended by our server, which by the way she rock! Absolutely made my experience outstanding! Thank you Alexis! Highly recommended.
Great diner vibes, good food and energy.
We came at 12pm on Sunday and had to wait 30 minutes which wasn't too bad. Menu is extensive and portions are massive. I ended up ordering a side of hash with a side of egg on top, and it was perfect. Would love to try one of their sandwiches next time.
Now that's a matzah ball
Cool atmosphere and very generous servings of delicious food! I tried the matzah ball soup and the matzah ball was literally the size of a softball! Others had giant sandwiches that were amazing. A little noisy but worth it for the food.

ok food - but nothing spectacular to justify their very, very, proud prices. Open face ruben sandwich very light on the cornbeef - maybe 3oz - stacked on two pieces of bread so it looks like you are actually getting a decent sandwich, but you are not. add in a pickle, coleslaw and root beer and your at $32 for lunch. Live in the neighborhood and this experience reminded me why I haven't eaten there in ages. I get costs have risen, but they also tack on a 3% service charge and expect a 20% tip.

Honestly, it may not be the exact cuisine you think of when you think of Chicago, but if I could go back to another restaurant for another meal out of everything I tried in Chicago it would be Eleven City Diner. I found this restaurant was close to my hotel and wanted a good breakfast before my conference and this place hit it out of the park. I LOVED the ambience. It was such an old-school diner vibe. This Bad A#@ Breakfast Sandwich was so and delicious. It comes With two fluffy eggs, your choice of two meats. (one of them needs to be the hash!!) aged Wisconsin cheddar sauce, and jalapeños, on a challah twist bun!! I'm just glad I was sharing it. Also, the house potatoes were unexpectedly better than other similar potatoes I've had in the past. Maybe it's because they are deep-fried! The reason I would love to go back is because in addition to the diner, they have an old-school candy shop and a full deli. Honestly, their pastrami sandwiches piled high had me thinking I might need to order one even for breakfast. Make sure to check them out.
Nice Diner
It was an excellent place for brunch! The staff was helpful and took their time, even though the place was quite full. Everything we had was fresh and tasty. It was also one of the cleanest places we saw in our few days in Chicago. It's well worth the visit, especially if you like the traditional diner atmosphere.
Crazy busy and fun breakfast/brunch spot.
Interesting menu with lots of options. Upstairs seemed less crowed. Good service.

The first place we visited upon arriving in Chicago for the first time ever, and it didn't disappoint! They attended to us quickly and were very kind throughout our time here. The food was pretty good and arrived promptly at our table. The portions were great and everything tasted fresh. With such a huge menu, you're bound to find something you like. While the place itself was nice, what truly made our experience unforgettable was the service. It was amazing, and our server was friendly, making sure we felt welcomed. We even engaged in a conversation, and he's actually pretty cool! We'll definitely come back when we visit Chicago again!
The worst customer policy ever.
Customer care and customer service is a joke. Customers are indeed NOT welcomed. The owner should consider reviewing his no joining policy that is not only unfriendly, but also very stupid. To avoid.
Love the diner style interior of this place.
The breakfast gets smaller every time but the service, quite efficient. I've had a teeny bite of their decadent chocolate cake once off of my friend's and it s to die for. Street parking of course!
Such a fun environment.
Food is amazing. Service is impeccable. Definitely recommend a visit!
What a fantastic spot for brunch, breakfast, or lunch!
What a fantastic spot for brunch, breakfast, or lunch! Despite passing by numerous times, I finally decided to step inside after my walk today, and I'm so glad I did. Upon entering, we were greeted by lively music and charming 50s/60s decor. The addition of a vintage candy shop was a delightful touch. After a brief seven-minute wait, we were seated, and our waiter promptly attended to us. He patiently explained the menu, which I always appreciate when dining somewhere new. I opted for the veggie Reuben sandwich, their vegan take on the classic, accompanied by fries and a frozen pink lemonade. The sandwich was incredibly filling, packed with flavorful portobello mushrooms, peppers, sauerkraut,Swiss cheese, spinach, and topped with tomato and avocado. I could only finish half, so I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest later. The fries were equally delicious. My friend enjoyed her turkey sandwich and strawberry milkshake. I appreciated that they ensured we received all of our milkshakes, even the leftover ones. I'll definitely be returning for breakfast or brunch, especially since they offer vegan and vegetarian options. Overall, a memorable dining experience that I highly recommend.
Perhaps they have wonderful food but my experience with telephone service is lacking.
Tried four times to buy gift card online as I live in San Diego… Finally called the restaurant and was told well we’re not having any problems so you’ll just have to come in to buy one. After calling my bank to ensure that there was not a problem with the card, I went on another restaurant website and bought one with no issues. There was no apology no offer to buy certificate online, no offer to investigate… Nothing… while Michelin stars do indicate the presence of a wonderful chef, there’s more to customer service than just that.
Definitely one of the BEST diners in the city Been coming
Definitely one of the BEST diners in the city Been coming for years! Pretty much never had anything negative happen- great places get crowded - DUH- also no one's perfect so I don't understand the negative reviews-- some people just are negative looking for problems- definitely go back again and again. - YUM
Super fun diner, excellent service, food was sooo good!
Super fun diner, excellent service, food was sooo good! Highly recommend if you are looking for fabulous French toast or an omelet. .
Slow service
Arrived around 1pm (Wednesday during Spring Break) and only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Atmosphere is great. We had to wait a bit for service once seated, but they were busy, so it was understandable. It went downhill from there. The type of food they sell should not take long to prepare/serve, but we waited over 30 minutes for a bowl of matzo ball soup (which was served with a TEASPOON). And another 15 minutes for the rest of our food. The server did notice we were waiting a long time and checked on our ticket - food came out five minutes after this. Aside from a quick apology, zero accommodations were made for their mess up. I have worked in resturants for many years and do expect restaurants to offer something in these instances. We also just wanted to eat and get out of there to enjoy the rest of our day in Chicago, so I didn't push it with management or anything, but did find it disappointing for how much you're spending there. The food was also just so-so. As mentioned above, the mazto ball soup was served with a metal teaspoon. Another soup at our table was served with a plastic soup spoon. Please invest in metal soup spoons when soup is a highlighted item on your menu.
Great...no other word to describe it!
This was our first dining experience in Chicago and it raised the bar high for others! It was worth the wait we only waited about 30 minutes and staff were so pleasant, we did not mind. I had the Reuben which was just bursting with pastrami. I loved it! Fries were great too as was the burger my friend had! Although I was full to the hills, I had to taste the hot fudge sundae, which was sublime!
Great lunch
Our family of 4 visited on 12/28 around 1pm. The restaurant was very busy with a wait of about 45 minutes. Great diner atmosphere with a deli up front and old school candy for purchase. The food was delicious and the portions did not disappoint. I would highly recommend the root beer float or chocolate shake!
Good food, good service, rude doorman
This was our second time here. Both times were before Bears games when they are very busy. We had to wait quite a while to get a table, and I must say that the guy at the door was very rude. Fortunately the waitress was not and the food was very good.
It's worth knowing!
A place worth knowing in Chicago! I recommend making a reservation because we waited 45 minutes to have a table.
Amazing old-school atmosphere
Fantastic old-school atmosphere diner. Very, very amicable service and top-notch food. I haven't got the chance to try their famous breakfast though, the line was too long in the morning...
Worth It!
I had a Turkey pastrami with roasted vegetables and it was out of this world! My husband and I shared the onion mountain and it was definitely more than we could finish. One of my favorite comfort food restaurants!

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
