Elliott's has always been restaurant we enjoyed for the fantastic meals. We have always enjoyed decent service from the staff. Quick summary; good food, expensive, poor service. Long story; We went to Elliott's on Thursday evening, 2/29/24 at 7:00 PM. The dining area had many open tables near the main entry, it looked like we were going to be able to enjoy a quieter dinner than usual. No joy. We were escorted to the far side of the dining area where customers were concentrated in a condensed area. After we were seated, our server didn't appear for over 10 minutes. We saw him close by attending to others with no sense of urgency. He walked slow with a slight limp. He passed by our table two times without greeting us.He was not that busy, there were only 5 tables with small groups. Most were already eating their food. Once he arrived, he was polite and helpful with food and drink recommendations. He served us drinks and took our food order. We flagged him down about 10 minutes later to ask for bread. We eventually received our food, which was tasty as usual. We didn't see our server again! It took us about 35 minutes to eat. We didn't get a 2nd round drinks and no dessert. Feeling frustrated, we decided to leave. We went up to the check-in desk and asked for our bill. My wife mentioned the poor service to the woman, she was apologetic. Our server then appeared from the opposite side of the dining area we just vacated, and gave us our bill. The restaurant was not busy, there was no apparent justifiable reason for the disappearing act. We paid the $200+ bill. After paying, I asked the woman to make change for me for a one-hundred dollar bill. She removed the fat blue bank bag from her till and appeared to be ready to accommodate me. She then asked why I wanted change. When I didn't answer correctly (that it was for a tip), she gave me the retaliatory "no", she could not make change for me. It was clear to me, she could have easily pulled some twenties and tens from her robust bank bag. How dare we tell her the service was poor! Elliott's has a mandatory 20% taxable service charge. The charge is used, in part, to pay staff a commission. This likely leads to reduced tips for servers, which diminishes the incentive for staff to go above and beyond to earn a decent tip. This experience may be an outlier, I'm inclined to try them again when we return to Seattle. But screw me twice- shame on me and I'll go elsewhere.
