Good chicken, weak brisket, poor delivery service
Looking to sample some BBQ as I spent the night in a D.C. hotel, I ordered the two-meat dinner from Federalist Pig and could not have been more underwhelmed. Read on for details. The food arrived by an Uber Eats cyclist a few minutes beyond the initial 30 minute window and was mostly cool upon arrival. The BBQ chicken was nicely seasoned with nice smoke and flavor. The brisket was moist and lacked both smoke and the expected beefy of brisket. It ranked with some of the weakest smoked brisket I've sampled. The baked beans were too sweet for my tasted. The garlic beens were cool and soggy. Most annoying: I requested and paid for utensils and a napkin, neither of which were included. There was nothing Michelin-level about my experience. But, the restaurant is well-reviewed so maybe it will be better for you.

Heavenly hog, beautiful brisket and tender Turkey! Melt in the mouth, tender and juicy meat cooked to perfection. I’ve never tasted a BBQ as good as this. Extra napkins a must.
Be the first to ReplyVery friendly staff, outdoor dining only currently at this location
Super helpful staff, provided great recommendations. Got family dinner for four for $99. In retrospect, should have just ordered individual meals, Son lives nearby so he kept leftovers at least, Brisket, ribs and turkey were the favorites. Would recommend - just watch pricing and compare for what each person in your party wants and will eat.

Excellent BBQ, Friendly, laid back staff. Some great sides made for an excellent meal. Not a lot of options for kids. My daughter found the Mac and Cheese too spicy.
Be the first to ReplyGood Morning America (GMA) recently bestowed "the Best Barbecue" award for them!
I tried their Carolina sandwich and the Pork ribs and both were delicious. Their sides are disappointing. I've had the Mac & Cheese and won't get again then tried the BBQ beans and they were too spicy for me. I referred a friend and he had the green beans and said that they had no flavor. There isn't a conspicuous sign out front that says Federalist Pig so you may walk or drive right past it. There's a neon sign that has an outline of a pig with BBQ inside the pig outline. There's no indoor seating but tables are outside and it's located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood about two blocks off of 16th St. NW; probably a 10 minute walk from the Columbia Heights Metro station.

I've always passed by their DC location and finally stopped by their MD one. My friends and I ordered the pork ribs, pork belly, brisket burnt ends, moist sliced brisket, pork sausage, brussels sprouts, and the mac and cheese. Wow everything here was delicious. We loved the burnet ends, pork belly and moist sliced brisket. Meats were so tender, juicy and fall off the bone. Definitely order the sprouts and mac and cheese. The sauces were no joke either. The Carolina, mustard bbq and mild sauces were delicious. I'd recommend ordering earlier in the day as they do sell out items. Also bring your own utensils or wet wipes as the food can get messy. Service here was great. Even though it's more self serve. Order, grab your food and eat on the benches. The workers kept asking if we needed anything and even gave us extra pickles. Great location to order some BBQ. Parking can be limited, but theres plenty of side street parking across the street.

This is such a great BBQ place, and I'm glad it's in my neighborhood. The menu is varied and the food is delicious and high quality. I especially like the Music City sandwich (spicy fried chicken) and the potato salad and mac & cheese sides. The staff are friendly and the service is quick.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend the Hyattsville locations
They cook exclusively with wood in Hyattsville (vs gas-assisted in town) and it really makes a difference. Good stuff! For a detailed review, see john tanners bbq blog and search "Hyattsville"

I went for the great ratings and was very disappointed as it was no doubt far from any barbecue expectation! We had Take-out and our meal 30 minutes from picking up the order. The meat was decent but had no flavor, and barely a smoky nose. We tried the 4 sauces and none was really good and tasty. Fries and coleslaw good. Beans were scattered in a lot of liquid sauce.

The best barbecue I have ever had. The meat is incredibly tender and cooked to perfection. They clearly take a huge amount of care over everything they serve, I could have eaten the sides and toast as a meal on their own. The restaurant itself is small and the music may be a bit too loud, but I’d recommend the place to anyone.

Heard it was “the Best” in DC. Sad. The focus is on “Texas Style” = mainly Beef. As if.
I am from the South, and everyone there knows real barbecue is pork.
The brisket sandwich was well smoked and tasty, though the red sauce underwhelming. I really wanted a plate—meat and sides— though couldn’t find two sides that appealed. Q.: What kinda barbecue restaurant does not serve “stew” (that’s Brunswick Stew to the unfortunate souls who are not cognoscenti)?
A.: The kind that won’t get my business again.
best BBQ in DC
really enjoy the place...barely needs a kiss of sauce...got the meat only, no sides this time
chopped pork shoulder was salty and great
enjoyed the rib tips as well
brisket again next time
DC BBQ
DC's best barbecue joint in Adams Morgan neighborhood in northwest quarter of city......go for chicken, beef brisket, and top choice pork ribs......good sides complement the meats
Be the first to ReplyIt's was okay
The sides were way too salty and the brisket was mediocre at best. The smoked wings were really good though.
Be the first to ReplyGreat tasting BBQ.
Great tasting BBQ. We came late so no lines. Portions are huge. Seating is communal mostly. Loved the vibe, loved the name and the food was delish.
