Fishwives Pasadena Reviews from The Last Year

Honestly i'm only giving one review because we got seated quickly. For $92 I expected way better food. We got two Lobster rolls (we didn't order drinks) and the bun wasn't completely toasted. The Lobster was cold and chewy and they even included a strand of hair inside. How nice! I didn't want to make it a big deal but come on now. After seeing the total I had to force myself to swallow it. I definitely got catfished by this place.Overpriced and not even worth it.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Fish and oysters are fresh, service is great, but not a lot of variety. AMBIANCE: Casual. Noise level is average. DRESS CODE: Casual ORDERED: - Tsukiji Market Ceviche: the ponzu was lacking, I wish there was a bit more, but the fish was fresh! - Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail: the shrimp was a bit too cooked for me, but everyone else enjoyed it - The Wives Seafood Sampler: they were all out of raw clams (so bummed!! not sure if they use different clams for the steamer basket??), but they threw in extra oysters. Everything was good, but I especially enjoyed the scallops! - FW Steamer Basket: everything was great! I personally prefer the steamed muscles - N.E. Clam Chowder: was a bit watery, I personally enjoy a thicker clam chowder, but the flavor was still good! - Wild Icelandic True Cod Fish and Chips: personally not a fan of fish and chips, but the fish was very tender. I felt the breading was too thick, but it wasn't oily, which was good. SERVICE: Service was great! PRICE: ~ $40+ PARKING: there is plenty of street parking on Holly Street, a paid (small) lot at the North-East corner of Holly and Fair Oaks, and if you don't mind a further walk, there is a covered parking garage on N. Raymond and Holly (across from the park), this garage is cheaper than the parking garage on Union. Food: 4/5 stars Service: 4/5 stars Venue: 4/5 stars

Solid seafood spot! As someone who grew up in Boston, this place reminded me of back home. Seafood tasted very fresh, they don't over flavor their dish so you can taste and enjoy the natural taste of each ingredient, and price is fair for the quality of the seafood you get. Oysters were very fresh, steamer basket was nice because we got to try a variety like clams, mussels, and lobster. Lobster roll was also rock solid. I personally liked their clam chowder even though it was on the thinner side. I usually like creamier style but their chowder had natural flavors coming through very strongly despite being on the thinner side which was really nice. I think the lobster was a little overcooked in my opinion but I suppose they would rather be safe than sorry. Overall, I think this a really solid spot if you are a seafood lover and definitely recommend a visit!
I love this place.
Usually go twice a year when I either celebrate my good friend's birthday or mine. We get their oysters and lobster roll with fries plus can't forget about a fresh White Allagash beer. So delicious. The service and ambience is also good! Can't wait to go again next time.
One of the best places to eat in Pasadena.
Highly recommend their Branzino. Hope they open one near Santa Monica so we can frequent it and become regulars. .

First off, the name- amazing! lol My friend and I decided to meet up in Pasadena and Fishwives definitely caught our eye, both of us being huge seafood lovers :) We had a reservation for 11:30 am, and were their first customers of the day, but their pace definitely picked up fast towards the afternoon. We knew for sure we wanted oysters from the raw bar, and really loved that they list the kinds of oysters that they offer on their website site. We went with the Kusshi and Shigoku oysters; both were good, but the Kusshis would have to be our favorite for it fresh, sweet, and more meaty bite. The Peruvian scallops also sounded like a must try, and they were exactly that! Like the oysters, they were very fresh, but were special in the sense that they were prepared with yuzu and a light olive oil to give it such a nice umami finish. I also got the fish and chips for my hot plate, and I really loved that they have this served the British style with a nice piece of thick-cut cod, battered and fried, and the chips were done perfectly light and crisp! I would honestly love to come back for this same spread :)
My fault for not asking how much the MP is for the lobster
My fault for not asking how much the MP is for the lobster roll but $40 something dollars for that and a small portion of French fries (not to mention $10 fries on the side order menu is absolutely disgusting... do you know how cheap potatoes are?) What a rip. On top of it all the lobster was tasteless and rubbery. I can get a Connecticut lobster roll for $20 elsewhere. I'll never go back here because you choose to be greedy.
Was craving fish and chips.
Was struggling to find any near Alhambra until we found these. Not sure there are many other places around? Anyways. clam chowder 5/5 Fish and chips 5/5 Fried pickles 3/5 Lobster roll 4/5 Service was as expected. Place is loud and casual. I felt like it was a little over priced - but what isn't these days. Skip the pickles.

4.5 stars. Love this place! First visit and I definitely see myself visit this place again soon! The service was a bit of a letdown as the server had to be reminded of our utensils, water, napkins etc. He seemed a bit out of it as he's constantly forgetting what we asked for. The other server (who we encountered 5 minutes before we left) and the runner were pretty awesome though. Attentive, friendly & accommodating! Now onto the food. We all enjoyed the fresh seafood fishwives had to offer but there were a lot of mussels- like so much mussels where I'll probably just order my seafood of choice next time. Lobster roll was good, Cioppino was light by winey (so maybe not for kids), clam chowder is thinner (compare to the typical clam chowders) but flavorful. Overall very satisfying feast!
Nice selection of oyosters.
fresh calm chowder, Recommend the fish and chips&scallop.
I took a dive into deliciousness at Fishwives Restaurant
I took a dive into deliciousness at Fishwives Restaurant in Pasadena and I couldn't have been more happy. Although I'm scared of the water, Fishwives made me feel like a sailor navigating the sea. This restaurant has been on my bestie's Yelp list since forever and we finally decided to give ourselves a little treat! We ordered 3 items from the menu and left feeling so full, but light. We started with their sampler platter called "The Fish." It's on their raw bar menu so you have to up and ask for it by the way! It came with shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, a few different types of oysters, and two sauces. We also got a Temaki "Handroll" Flight which comes with 3 rolls of yellowtail, salmon, and Maryland blue crab. We are a big fan of cheese so we had to get the Mac & Cheese dish with parmesan and Tillamook cheddar, which was topped with panko. I discovered...cheese and seafood are great together. These three dishes were all so unique to each their own, it left me pretty hooked from the first bite to the last. I didn't know it was New England-style seafood and I discovered I love it! The service here was exceptional, too. We had two servers who were both so warm and sweet. They ensured each dish's unique items were explained and took the time to introduce us to what we were having. Education seems like a big part of this restaurant so we were even inclined to read more about the restaurant's history. We found out: a fishwife means a coarse-mannered woman who is prone to shouting or a woman who sells fish (which is so cute). This restaurant was inspired by the owner's grandmother who was a "fishwife" who worked so hard selling fish in Taiwan. It's also Asian-owned and he also gives back to the community by hiring justice-impacted individuals. We love this restaurant even MORE now that we found this out from their website and a quick Google search. The restaurant is nestled in the heart of Old Pas on Fair Oaks Ave. The door to the restaurant can be missed easily but just look for the little light-up sign at the window of the green building. Whether you're a fellow seafood lover like my friend and I or just want to try support local and try something delicious, Fishwives is a absolute must-visit. Come for the food, stay for the ambiance, and leave with a stomach full of delicious food. I'll definitely be back with more friends!
Great service.
Food is good I ordered the cioppino taste very good. The seafood was perfectly cooked not overcooked or undercooked. I love every bite of it. The environment is very present. I enjoy a good conversation with my friend doing the entire meal very relaxing drink you could order special drinks bartender is very nice. Waiter is very nice. I would recommend Friends to this place. You can park on the street or there are some parking lots nearby under $10 parking.
Overcrowded. Overpriced. Overrated.
Looked forward to getting a reservation at this hyped seafood restaurant but my enthusiasm was tempered almost immediately. Parking was a serious hassle. Ok, that's true all over Old Town. But once inside there seemed to be no host. Eventually a seemingly dizzy low talker took us to our table. It was so close to an adjacent diner I could recognize her shampoo, as I wasn't pleasant. I couldn't see a comfortable seat in the entire space. Other oddities occurred: cooks had their backs to guests at the raw bar rather than the other way around. The food was less than disappointing. I ordered chowder and ceviche. Within minutes the low talker arrived with the ceviche, which looked nothing like ceviche but more like poke. It took awhile to flag the server to tell him I wanted the soup first like in every restaurant I have ever been to in the world. He seemed surprised at such a bizarre request. The chowed finally arrived and I am certain it was made with Manilla clams, not little necks as advertised. Big, unpleasant difference. I didn't send it back because I was getting exhausted with this wannabe, Got the poke, I mean ceviche, back and it had little citrus flavor and was plated with a lemon slice, not lime. While all this was going on, the table next to us told the server they never got the crab cake they ordered and asked to have it taken off the tab. Then my wife got her crab hand roll and it wasn't a hand roll at all but a cut roll. Not good. This restaurant may be called fishwives but it really is a can of sardines.

We love Fish Wives but even though we were lucky to get a reservation for within an hour of our arrival, service was very very slow. It took a minimum of 15 minutes to be acknowledged for our order after being seated and 2 glasses of water plunked on the table. Not the experience we usually have. Oysters and raw scallops didn't disappoint but the fish tacos were a bit bland. The Fish in them was good but the cabbage on top didn't have much flavor and there were only a couple tiny pieces of avocado in them. Overall I wasn't impressed with them so will prob stick with the Branzino, Scallops or fish & chips next time. I wanted to try something different. My husband tried the ceviche. Large pieces of fish so it did t look like your traditional ceviche but he said it was very good and enjoyed it. I'll still come back as I enjoy this place very much. I think we were just there when it was either too busy (although not all the tables were taken) or they were short staffed.
It's a lot of little things.
The lobster in the lobster roll was served hot, which was a disappointment. (Traditionally the lobster should be cold and the roll served hot, especially when the lobster is prepared Maine style as this was.) The texture of each seafood item (shrimp, cod, lobster) was very tight, which either indicates that it wasn't especially fresh or that it had been frozen. There is so much dust clotted up on the pendant lights that I think they may not have been cleaned since the restaurant opened. Spiderwebs in the corners. Sink in restroom spit water at a sad dribble and the soap was out. Waiters not especially attentive, had to be asked to bring a napkin after we spilled lobster on the floor, waiter didn't ask if we needed another round of drinks or ketchup (tiny pots of ketchup). Fries were very good, thus the 2 stars, but I wouldn't dare to order raw fish here. The is filth clinging to every corner of the dining room, which makes me wonder about the kitchen.
Simple, clean and fresh is how I would describe Fishwives.
..no frills just good food and good service. Oysters were good - but I'm not too much of a raw clams person but my friends liked it! Get their handroll flight, sashimi plate and branzino!! Oh don't forget the French fries!!
Came in around 4pm, no one was really there.
Female server a bit short in the beginning. Lobster roll was good. Some parts of the lobster was very chewy, and I had to spit some of it out (ugh, that was like $10 down the drain). Deviled eggs with oysters were great. Mac n cheese average. Lemonade was made with a powder or liquid, not straight from the lemons. Ah-iight is my overall rating.
This is a cute restaurant, however with the limited menu
This is a cute restaurant, however with the limited menu and high prices, I thought this was a good try but unsure if I would come back again. Located in Pasadena, there's street parking and public parking structure on Holly St across Fair Oaks. Service was good overall. We ordered 1/2 dozen Kumamoto oysters, fried oyster deviled eggs, a lobster roll, a temaki flight, and fish and chips. Seafood was fresh but pricey as it totaled to $150 (without tip) for the three of us. We were also still hungry afterward and had to get second dinner elsewhere. If you're into small meals or just a small bite with drinks, this is the place for you.
Really fresh seafood.
Very clean and the food was delicious and beyond was great and I know now why it filled up so fast the food was excellent.

Very. Fresh. Seafood. I recommend the lobster rolls... not the crab roll if you have to choose. The lobster is so good. The service is fine. Fairly friendly and on top of it. The ambiance is fine. Their seafood is where it really shines. Expensive... but the quality of the seafood tastes like they just got stuff in that morning
When I walk into Fishwives it feels like I'm home.
The servers are all friendly and professional, like I had been coming there for years. Nathaniel helped my party out and was very informative in regards to my gluten allergy. Every time I needed something he was right there. But gee whiz the food was amazingly fresh! The look and feel of the restaurant was very clean, like I was getting the best of the best. #yum
Fresh and Beautiful Seafood
I loved the New Zealand oysters. Also, the clam chowder and scallops here are fantastic. If I had any criticism, just believe they need a dessert at this place too.
delicious seafood
we went there for a quick dinner on a friday. we ordered sushi, fish and chips, crab cake. all delicious. good beers. this is an outstanding seafood restaurant. only drawback is the very noisy dining room.
A great fish restaurant in Pasadena.
Fresh fish, generous plates, fast service. Reservations are required as the restaurant is popular. If you are passing through Pasadena, I recommend this address.
Unexpectedly good!
Very very good ! It doesn’t look like a fancy place from outside and it is not, but the food and service is so good that they don‘t need fancy. I had their Maine Lobster roll and a mixed seafood plate with ice cold beer, it just feels like paradise. A must visit when in Pasadena.

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
