😍 5/5 - Exceptional Resort, Amazing Staff, Exceedingly Well Managed and a Wonderful Family Vacation

The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is an exceptional, and extremely well managed resort. Our stay exceeded all our expectations. Yes, we were there during Spring Break, but even though the property had high occupancy (including over 300 children), it did not feel like it was overly crowded or noisy. When we arrived, we were offered a room upgrade to an oceanfront prime double queen (at an additional nightly cost) which I gladly accepted. The overall room and amenities were wonderful and the view of the pool area and ocean was spectacular and well worth the additional expense. While the overall resort is extremely well appointed, and thoughtfully laid out with every possible service and amenity carefully considered and provided, what truly separates the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea from other world class resorts is the amazing service provided by each of the staff who were dedicated to making every aspect of our stay exceptional. Everyone at the Four Seasons recognized us and either knew or tried to learn each of our names, which made our stay even more personal and genuine. I want to recognize the Four Seasons staff for their tireless work to make each guest’s experience a memorable one. The front desk check-in, check-out and upgrade process took less than 2 minutes. The Concierge helped plan and schedule our offsite dinners (Monkeypod, Ekolu Kitchen and Mama’s Fish House), an outstanding van and helicopter tour of Hana, a terrific snorkeling trip to Molokini Crater, and a wonderful Luau at the Grand Wailea. The pool and beach attendants provided amazing service and took the time to get to know us. I got to know most of them every morning at 6:00am while trying to secure an unreserved sanctuary or prime pool cabana. They always made sure we were well taken care of and had enough towels, water, drinks, and food. The resort food was always very well prepared and delivered promptly (even though the resort was exceedingly busy). Every morning, the chefs and servers prepared and delivered our meals to a consistently high standard. Yes, the food and drinks are expensive, but you get what you pay for as everything was thoughtfully prepared and very high quality. The bartenders at Ferraro’s, Duo, and the infinity pool area were engaging, friendly, and made excellent cocktail and wine recommendations. They were even willing to try to reproduce a drink I had at Mama’s Fish House (Pau Maui). The room service staff were wonderful and delivered our food promptly (even quickly replacing a steak that had been over-cooked). The housekeeping staff quietly and unobtrusively went about their work and somehow managed to keep our room clean, neat, and organized every day. The ever-thoughtful car valets and bell staff who had our suitcases delivered and picked-up on-time and consistently had our car ready to go within minutes (along with towels and cold water. The gift shop staff were thoughtful and recommended several toys and activities for our kids. The roving beach/pool snack staff who brought us treats every day (pineapple, ice cream, mochi, ginger lemonade (to name a few). Those who staffed the Sugar Shack and made those amazing and enormous milkshake/donut/ice cream treats. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, those who run the complimentary Kid's Club every day who were so incredibly accommodating and patient in taking such good care of our kids (and 25 other children). I don’t know how they manage it on a day-to-day basis, but their creativity and positive attitude were infectious with the children. We had a hard time convincing my 7-year-old to join us at the pool and beach because he was having such a good time with all the daily activities that he could attend or simply check-in on at his leisure (on-property excursions, cooking, Legos, coloring, basketball, swimming, and afternoon movies before pick-up). The three-hour sunset crab catching on the beach (and dinner) was a big hit with the kids ($100 extra but well worth the expense). The Kid’s Club and excursions allowed us to have a break from our kids and some well needed “adult time” which allowed us to go to the adult-only infinity pool for a late afternoon swim and an early diner at Ferraro’s. My only two suggestions are the following: First, the room and pool area power/technology could be a bit better. The room outlets did not fit multiple rapid (and wider) USB-C chargers which are necessary when a family has up to eight devices to be charged. At the three pool/unreserved cabana areas there are no power or no charging stations (they may exist in some of the pricier cabanas that can be reserved for over $1,000/day). I know that many would say why look at your phone or iPad at the pool/beach when you are on vacation, but when you pay Four Seasons rates and spend your whole day at the pool having your phone/iPad is helpful when you or your kids need some down time and a break from the sun. Perhaps charging stations could be discreetly placed and managed in the attendant areas with adequate power for rapid device charging. Our devices drained quickly due to poor cellular service and insufficient Wi-Fi coverage. It’s also a long way back for some guests to return to their rooms to charge their phone. Second, there could have been more clothing storage space in our room. Since we had four people (two adults and two kids) sharing a double queen prime ocean room, the existing built-in drawers were too shallow and did not provide enough storage space for four people. There was certainly enough space on one wall (by the adjoining room door) for an additional 4 drawer dresser (which the staff could not provide when requested). Instead, we had the kid’s suitcases open for 8 days which made things a bit messier. Again, perhaps a nit-pick, but for over $2,500 a night, there should be sufficient storage if the room is permitted to accommodate up to four people. While these were certainly minor inconveniences (and did not detract from our stay or experience), the Four Seasons prides itself on thinking of every detail and I hope these suggestions would be carefully considered by management to improve the overall guest experience. Our kids affectionately called the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea "our hotel away from home" because they felt so relaxed, comfortable, and well taken care of during our stay. They were both sad to the point of tears when we had to say our goodbyes. This of course meant that the vacation and overall experience was truly an exceptional one for us all. The overall property, location and amenities will always be beautiful and high quality, but what makes the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea truly shine are the wonderful and dedicated employees who not only made us feel welcome but made every aspect of our stay so memorable. Five stars for every category. Thanks to everyone for making our family vacation so special. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. Mahalo.
