Went here on a recent work trip and came with a bunch of my colleagues so we were able to share a lot of items. Walking up the restaurant is very modern looking with a clean design. The staff was all very nice and attentive and did a great job wrangling our large group. To start off we shared a couple of starters. We trued the Beef Tartare, Parker house rolls, roasted scallops, and the caviar. My favorite was the scallops the mix of the scallops and grapefruit was light and refreshing. The caviar was also good and had such a beautiful presentation. The rolls and tartare were good but bit especially special. For the mains we shared the Branzino and Tomahawk steak with the hassle back potatoes and tater tots as a side. The steak was amazing and I really enjoyed the horseradish cream that came with it. The tater tots were one if the highlights of the meal for me as well, they are so crispy and absolutely delicious. It did feel like for the meal that in some cases they were leaning on the wow factor of certain things (truffle, caviar etc) but for a fun treat yourself dinner its a great spot.

We ended up ordering the tater tots, apple tart and almond cake. We sat at the chefs table and spoke with the kitchen staff and cooks. Highly recommend over a regular table. It was so much fun! The food was delicious, service impeccable, treat yourself to night out. I'll be back to try out a full dinner service.
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this place.
It was featured on the list of must-have Austin experiences for the tater tots, so I dutifully made a reservation, found parking, and went through the hotel to find this restaurant. I will say that the restaurant itself is beautiful, down to the lighting and the table decor. The service was good... if a little on the pretentious side (I don't really need or want my server to tell me that I can or can't use a fork for an amuse-bouche). But other than the condescension, the servers were prompt and very polite, so that was awesome. Now, you might say, Valerie, that all sounds fine, why isn't this a 4 star review, if you're being picky about the service? Well, dear reader, that would be because of the food. And maybe it was an off day because other people seem to love this place, but it was really just meh to me. It certainly has all the elements of elevated cuisine, but it just wasn't exceptional for me. Other than the rolls - those were pretty cool! How do you get rolls to taste completely different when you add butter and honey?! As in, the texture changed completely and they were so good combined, whereas they were meh alone. But the tater tots... First, these aren't tater tots. They weren't crispy and they were doused in sauce and truffle shavings. And they weren't hot when they were served. And the tilefish kohlrabi was interesting, but didn't really come together for me as an exceptional dish. It wasn't terrible, but also just wasn't great. I think this is a case where I was disappointed because it was so well-rated and I expected more from them, but this isn't really a place I'd try again. Which I'm sure they're super happy about since they didn't really try to make me feel particularly welcomed. So, misalignment on taste and temperatures for me. On to the next, I suppose!

We go on about 2-3x dates a month to high end restaurants a month and this was by far and away the worst dining experience me and my fiancรฉe have had in the last 2+ years. To start our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave her spiel, which was appreciated. We were seated overlooking the food so we knew exactly what we wanted. We ordered about 5-6x entrees, which came out all at the exact same time, which is when our dicing experience took a major turn for the worst. What fine dining restaurant serves you 5x hot orders at once? The server literally came out with the food and appropriate cutlery and then went back and grabbed dish after dish and before we had one bite we had all of our appetizers spread out over not only our seating area but our neighbors as well. So now we have 8x table settings and food spread out all over the place and we're in a rush to eat our food before it gets cold. The food was good, but the lifelessness of serving us everything at once and not caring about the food getting cold or spreading it out or anything was a little too robotic for us. The food was amazing, but if you are looking for a dining experience that matches the price then please for the love of god go anywhere else, because the service is trash and they don't care about you.

If you are wondering where this restaurant is like I was, it is inside the Fairmont Hotel. We parked in the hotel's parking structure and paid $20 for 3 hours. We had reservations and were seated immediately by the hostess who was warm and helpful. We did not wait long at all u til our server greeted us and asked what beverages we would like. We both ordered a glass of wine and I also got a cappuccino. The courses were flowing and each was better than the last. I never thought I would enjoy an oyster but I definitely did! Then the tartlet with goat cheese was a huge winner! Each dish got better and better! There was a halibut dish I was not huge on but then again if it's not sushi I do not love fish. Even the dessert was invigorating and wonderful! My husband and I kept looking at one another awestruck. The ambiance was phenomenal itself as well. I also noticed two men with hats on while dining which I found to be in poor taste. Guys take your hats off when eating please, didn't you learn that as a child!? Lol Parking was easy to find in the parking structure, we were waiting in front of the hotel for a valet and that was nowhere to be found so we ventured ourselves and found the structure. We will definitely be back to try a full sized dinner portion but the chef's tasting menu was delightful!

definitely being added to my top 10 restaurants in austin! I'd highly recommend their beef tartare, crispy spanish octopus, roasted duck breast rossini (my absolute favorite), and the akaushi wagyu! they're also located right in the Fairmont so don't forget to grab a drink at their hotel bar after!

We didn't have reservations and they wouldn't seat us even though 90% of the tables were empty. I wish I could write a better review.

Had a great experience with a group of friends for a birthday party! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was equally as amazing. The restaurant is a hidden gem in the Fairmount hotel, you may have to ask someone to find it like I had to. The service is great they're very professional and attentive. Added bonus the espresso martinis were really good!

This gem is set back deep inside the Fairmont - without direct street access, so many probably pass it by. Meander through the lobby, lobby bar, a simulated downtown area food court and walk up onto a porch and through the facade of a Texas farmhouse. The theme of the menu is "smoked" and the restaurant has little built-in coves all around with Bastrop firewood. The service was great - definitely more of the upscale vibe, but minus the attitude - basically they'll give you a taster/present your wine, but not judge you if you can't name the notes... Tell you about the specials, but not judge if you ask the portions are decent. The perfect ATX vibe. And the portions are decent! We debated the size of the portions and if we were over or under-ordering when we saw "scallop" printed singularly on the menu...Would the salad be two artistically placed pieces of lettuce? We were pleasantly surprised that even though the pricing is definitely a $$$ experience - the portions actually felt worth the cost without sacrificing flavor and we left full. The salad was a packed local leaf lettuce that four of us shared! The hasselback side potato was served with both halves (so fluffy with amazing "loaded" drizzle). The leek tart was enough to share as a side (and so freaking good). And the fish and poultry we're all appropriately plated. It all was delicious. The chef sent over some little nomz to start and I was a vegetarian in a steakhouse and I ate the best smoked cabbage I've ever tasted. They brine it in olive oil for hours and serve with vegan aioli. The rolls were so magical...don't skip the yeast rolls. My partner got the barbecued grouper and it was so moist and had great flavor. We were too full to try their desserts but the staff brought us housemade chocolates and passion fruit candies to end our meal. Our only criticism (if this even counts) is we wanted at least one more clear alcohol option on the highlighted drink menu that had some fruit or herb notes. My partner got a delicious gin & tonic, but I was looking for a slightly sweet infused vodka drink. All that to say is this vegetarian will most likely be going back to this surf and turf spot again soon!
