Taste of childhood
GM chwee kueh is a taste of my childhood so will always make a point to visit when I am local. This time my friend had bought me some when I was serving my SHN. She didn't have to tell me where it was from and I could tell from the taste and look that it's from GM. I agree with reviewers that the chai poh is very salty so I usually just ask for less. In the da bao case, it was fine, we had enough and could use the rest to accompany other foods we were having. The chilli portion was very stingy as we only got a small little tub thought friend had bought 20 chwee kueh for us. It's still one of my fave chwee kueh places as it reminds me of my younger days. Good to learn their son in law is helping them out in the business.

Looks like this stall has been here for the longest time. The vendor was an old couple which I respected them for plying this trade using only one single dish for all these years. But the chai Poh was a tad too salty for me. The chwee kuehs have a pretty good texture though. Prices are still acceptable but seems to be the pricier choice.

Negative food review in Singapore eg: Boss is grumpy, taste is horrible, the Chwee Kueh texture like muddy......end up i throw away the whole packet.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculously stingy with toppings, tiong bahru chwee kueh is better
I frequent ghim moh market and after eating the much raved chwee kueh once, i never went back. Stall owners are grumpy and the amount of toppings they give in comparison to the amount of chwee kueh is ridiculous. You end up stressed out over how to ration the toppings with every bite.
My recommendation is to not waste time here and just go to Tiong Bahru Marketโs Jian Bo Shui Kueh for chwee kuehs. They are so generous with the toppings that i always have not enough chwee kueh to finish up the topping.
More chilli please
My wife swears by this stall. Personally I think the Tiong Bahru one is much better. The chilli sambal is the best part of the dish but no matter how much you request for more chilli the Aunty will only give you one teaspoonful.

Been brought up on these so whenever I am in Singapore this will be on my list of must eat places. The chai poh can be a bit salty but I will just ask for less. I like the chilli as well. Some friends prefer the chwee kueh at Tiong Bahru, where the chai poh is sweeter but is also greasier. I can't decide between the 2 but the Ghim Moh chwee kueh is nostalgic for me! Also if I hadn't had such nice chwee kueh growing up, it wouldn't be something I gravitate to so much when I am older ๐๐๐๐๐

You cannot find a more authentic chee kuih than those offered here at the Ghim Moh Market.
The cakes are soft, wobbly but firm enough to be cut. The garlic and tung chai topping gives off a heady aroma, and when tweaked with a little sambal is delightful.
4 cakes for SGD1.60. A must try for all looking for comfort food.
