Just book it.
This was one of the best food experiences ever. Sometimes you just can’t put it in words for someone to understand. Service was great. Food was exceptional. Atmosphere was inviting & fun.
Be the first to ReplyBig Disappointment
Made a reservation with high expectations for a 50th birthday dinner. We had been wanting to try this restaurant for several years and finally had the opportunity to. Long story short, we regret working our weekend around what we thought would be a 'nice birthday dinner'. Unfortunately, the space was super loud, staff was robotic, food was only mediocre, and we felt rushed through our 8pm reservation so they could use the table again. AND...speaking of the table... it is ridiculously long/wide for 2 people. So much so that my wife and I could barely converse across it during what we hoped would be a lovely birthday dinner. We don't mind a loud, bustling, crowded, city restaurant -- we truly enjoy them and actually happened upon a Peruvian gem the night before that was just amazing -- but this was too loud and everything, including the food, was just not up to par. To add insult to injury, we spent 250+ dollars on dinner and wine and when it came to dessert they charged us $15 for the birthday sweet that my wife picked because she was told to 'save room for a birthday dessert' by the server. Just generally very disappointed with the atmosphere, service, and food. We won't be returning and don't recommend. There are so many other amazing restaurants with better service and atmosphere in the city, this once has lost its luster.
Be the first to ReplyGreat expectations - not fulfilled. Disappointing.
We wanted to love this dining experience with our family, but it fell way short of being in any way enjoyable - we were relieved to finish our food so that we could leave. For a restaurant of this caliber, one would expect superb food and a pleasant dining atmosphere. The ambience was raucous and deafening; it was impossible to converse at the table. The tables were packed in so tightly that we were constantly being bumped and jolted by the people seated at the tables behind us. The service was good, but the food was only so-so. (We had eaten here a year ago during the summer, seated in their outdoor dining area, and the food was much better at that visit.) The naan bread with hummus and tzatziki was delicious, as were the roasted beets. The chicken skewers were boring, the green beans were, well, green beans, nothing spectacular there, the crispy pork belly was a sloppy mess of indeterminate flavors, the goat liver mousse was marginally ok, though the crumpets with it were rancid. We won’t be back. It was a wretched dining experience.

OMFG does Girl & the Goat ever live up to the hype! Every single bite was incredible. Vibes were perfect. Staff was incredible. Top 10 restaurant experience for sure. Only wish I had room to try more dishes.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful New Year's Eve Dinner
Amazing New Year's Eve dinner (12/31/2023). Each course was fabulous. The service impeccable. The flavors and presentation excellent. Our server, Jersen, was very good. And bartender Lucy very entertaining as well as great cocktail recipes. Definitely recommend The Girl and the Goat any time of year
Be the first to ReplyA Superb Goat Restaurant.
The Girl & the Goat restaurant Chicago, rests on the renowned Restaurant Row area in the West Loop of the Windy City. Rustic wooden pillars and beams connect a bevy of seating areas creating an enduring communal and 'tete a tete' appeal. The menu is protein bound, heavy on goat. After hoofing over the menu, my mind argued over the crispy pork belly and the roasted pig face.........the belly survived along with chocolate olive oil cake all washed down with prosecco............a delicious meal and great company............a superb goat restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyUnique and Amazing Flavors
This place has been on my bucket list forever and it did not disappoint! I’ve been following Stephanie’s career since her season of Top Chef and it was so exciting to finally make it here! The food was incredible- such unique flavors and spices. The hamachi crudo, chicken skewers and green beans were my top three favorites. The desserts were also Devine. I wish I remembered the name of our server because he was excellent and made the entire experience so much better! I can’t recommend this place enough!
Be the first to ReplyUnexceptionalism Personified [Save for the Goat Liver Mousse]
The cuisine was generally speaking mediocre particularly for an establishment of this note, combined with truly lackluster servicing to say the least. In complete fairness and tribute to the chef though, we sampled the "goat liver mousse" and it was truly exceptionally brilliant in preparation. Unfortunately, the other dishes ordered were not of an above average caliber.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food, but Small Portions!
Anthony Bourdain The Layover Season 2, Chicago featured Girl & The Goat, and it looked freaking delicious! So I had to try it. Even 12 years after airing this episode, this place is still popular and packed on the Friday night we dined here...be sure to make a reservation! This is a fancy upscale restaurant, but is family/tapas style, so mentally prepare yourself with that important piece of information. Service is impeccable, the hostesses were friendly, the busboy was on his A game with water glass refills, and out waitress knowledgeable and friendly. Every dish is creative, exquisite, and delicious. Shockingly, the vegetarian plates were amazing and flavorful. $17 Roasted Beets...tropea onion-golden beet giardinaire . yuzu kosho . party nuts. I'm not a fan of beets, but these beets were the best I've ever had, and honestly delicious, and probably healthy too! $18 Sautéed green beans...fish sauce vinaigrette, roasted cashews...sounds weird, but again these were fantistic, and the most spectacular green beans ever. $24 roasted pig face...seared, juicy, crisp pieces of pork, served with a sunny side egg, and some very thing crispy french fries. Sooo good! $21 Goat empanadas...avocado crema, chili lime crunch, fried plantains...very tasty! Note that there are only two empanadas. My dining mates tried some other plates, all of which were fantastic too. Problem is all these plates are on the smaller side, and we had run up a $200 bill between the 4 of us. We weren't quite full, but didn't feel compelled to raise the bill any further. Bigger portions would've made the this a 5 Star. Or maybe complimentary bread and butter. Or maybe I'm being cheap and petty tourist. Or maybe I need to go on a diet...yeah, that's probably the right answer.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderfully memorable dining experience
My husband and I have been wanting to visit Girl & The Goat for several years now and were thrilled to have a reservation time that aligned with our recent visit. We started with the hamachi crudo, which was fantastic. The pickled apples and trout roe were especially delicious. The fish was beautiful and fresh, with a lovely delicate texture and flavor. Our second course were the goat empanadas. Tender goat was wrapped in a crispy, flaky exterior which allowed the creamy avocado and lightly sweet plantains to really shine. Next we had the roasted beet dish, which was visually stunning AND incredibly delicious. The variety of textures and flavors was wonderfully surprising - earthy, sharp, sweet, crunchy... a little bit of everything! Our final savory dish was the roasted pig face and it was absolutely my favorite dish of the evening. Two pork face cakes were topped with a sunny side up egg and sat on a bed of potato stix. The tamarind, cilantro, and red-wine maples sauces surrounded the dish and our server asked if he could "prepare" the dish the way the chef designed it to be eaten. We agreed and he proceeded to mix everything together - the egg, sauces, pork cakes, and potato stix. I'm SO glad we allowed him to do that because it made every single bite truly amazing. For dessert (I was quite full by this point, so I only had a couple of small bites), we had the coconut creme caramel. Creme caramel is one of my favorite desserts to begin with, but this one was so wonderfully over the top! The caramelized coconut crunch was my favorite aspect of the dish - I LOVE when creamy desserts have a crunchy element and this definitely didn't disappoint. Overall the meal was fantastic, our server was attentive and made great recommendations, and the vibe is cozy and comfortable but with a great energy and liveliness. We'll definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, already looking for return reservation
Very much enjoyed the meal - manages great service and an upscale meal without being stuffy! Ordered multiple smaller plates to share. Some highlights: naan and dips was great and unusual - raw oysters with watermelon and horseradish were delicious - green beans are fabulous. Drinks were fun and very interesting. Service (Emily and team) was wonderful - attentive but not rushing. Lovely dining room. If you’re thinking you might want to visit Stephanie Izard’s restaurant in Chicago … you definitely do.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, especially the pork shank
All of the food was amazing. We were sat at a small table for 2 at the counter by the chefs preparing the dishes. We were able to talk to the staff while they were cooking and got recommendations. Everything was delicious and the pork shank was top tier.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is excellent!
A birthday dinner was held here. The food is excellent, as our waitress recommended we ordered at least four dishes for two people to share. We definitely had more than enough food and was just the right amount of full. Recommend ordering from at least one section of each on the menu, the green beans have been on the menu forever and they were amazing.Definitely a must try while in Chicago.
Be the first to ReplyGluten Free and Fancy Free Anniversary Magic
Weekend getaway in Chicago for our anniversary. Told restaurant we needed gf and it was a special occasion. I shrieked with joy when they surprised us with the chef’s table. It only got better from there, as we also got a GF menu and we’re thrilled with the options. The chef (Peter?) and our server, Hilario, were outstanding. Empanadas, green beans, chick pea fritters and bronzino were prepared (before our eyes) beautifully. I can’t say enough about the service and the quality- such a delicious celebration!
Be the first to ReplyAngry Food
This place makes me so angry. The Girl and the Goat is the most perfect exhibit of the modern classic hipster. A totally unapologetic perfectly blended combination of the sensational and superior experience right smashed together with the snobby and bold choices to hold back generosity and slightly abuse customers. This played out during us three hungry guys and our first visit: we loaded up on six dishes given the recommendation, immediately made small fussy talk over the amazing flavors and new foods we had never had, yet dropped dollars just over two hundred before tip, and at the end we were not full in the slightest! Only in this glorified modern goth kitchen, generous with the urban art and full on encompassing Chicago never sleeps atmosphere, with well positioned peaks of light to let you see how dark everything is, could anyone get away with American foreign policy hipster price gouging. Like Dylan Moran, one of my favorite Irish comedians said, America's overseas trick is to find some terrorists in a far flung corner cafe. And while they rant and plot, America gradually builds a Starbucks around them. I noticed The Girl and the Goat plays the exact games, charging insane prices for piddle sized dishes but upon tasting righteous flavors like the chickpea fritters, naan with its incredible sauces, and the indulgent lamb, the waiter almost smirks with, can you still be mad? Well we still can however it sure is difficult! We also hit on the caulilini, skirt steak, and goat belly with my good city sidekick and I sipping a goat fashioned and lychee cocktail. Could not fault any of the dishes besides their sizes and low calorie count, my lychee cocktail dripped with tingling well balanced fruit and Ceres. Now here is the thing, a couple hours earlier we had walked around downtown, tried The Northman for lunch. I had their goat sausage hotdog. Interestingly for only fifteen bucks I was much more full and satisfied than the massive money us men moved at dinner. That goat sausage was beyond belief, rich and decadent, found myself holding it up as tasty as the meats here. There has to be that psychology of spending more internalizes a more experience. In my extensive travels between restaurants of all sorts, some much more expensive than The Girl and the Goat, I've adjusted to better hammer out the mentality that wants to nail me in the wallet just for hype and social stigma. We had done Prasino in La Grange the night before and found a fantastic family owned high class dining experience for entirely reasonable prices and generous dishes. I have become very familiar with Ocean Prime and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse which are national chains catering to top cuisine levels and ensuring Girls and Goats everywhere are plenty full when dropping big cash. I am sure there are others: at this price level it is ideal to at least have a couple menu options that will fix any appetize rather than tease it along into the hundreds of dollars. It was the dessert that really showed up the stingy. After the meager six plates left too much room in our bellies, we had to attempt a finale. Seeing the popcorn and ice cream dish was so hilariously small, could have been a free topping to a DQ Sunday! Quite a shame in the USA to feel almost normal about casually throwing wads of cash into the kitchen and not getting full.
Be the first to ReplyTasty though overpriced
Gastronomically interesting to very interesting dishes. However the price is way too high for the (very small) quantities served. In particular, the skirt steak dish had only a few slices of meat. Furthermore, the dishes arrived randomly and some of them quite delayed.
Be the first to ReplyFun and delicious
Delicious food in a fun atmosphere. Very attentive to my food allergies. Green beans were amazing. Outstanding service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food in a hip part of town
Deserving of all its accolades. Based in a converted warehouse with rustic atmosphere. Host empinadas were wholesome the lamb Aldo great. The vegetables were exceptional - Beets were delicious
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Unique Entrees and Good Goat Cheese.
One of the finer restaurants in the city but over the last couple years but appeared to have suffered a bit more than some restaurants getting wait staff up to speed and fully staffed. My first post COVID visit, and the menu continues to impress and the servings delightful. Many dishes can be considered a single entree even though the restaurant is known for shared entrees. Wine list for wine by the glass is very good even though a bit limited. Pricing reflects current state of inflation and pretty easy to have a couple spending north of $100 per person for a meal. I can highly recommend the cheese plate as a post-entree treat and the still rose wine is a nice match.
Be the first to ReplyBold Flavors / Amazing Experience
We had the pleasure of sitting at the grill side table. It was truly a treat to watch the chefs execute their passion into amazing dishes. The bold flavors combined with the diverse ingredients made for an amazing meal. Our picks were the branzino, chickpea fritters, and pig face (don’t let the name scare you). Best dining experience in years.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vegetarian options
Really enjoyed sitting outside on Friday evening for dinner. Service was really great. The inside seemed a bit too crowded and loud for us. Didn't intend to only order vegetarian dishes but was very happy with our choices. The Rose wine was very good and perfectly chilled.
Be the first to ReplyStill great after all these years.
Server Katie was outstanding from start to finish. She had a great understanding of each menu item and made excellent drink recommendations. We enjoyed some really great cocktails - an Old Fashioned, a gin margarita, and a Mexican Mule. Every dish was fantastic. We loved the chickpea fritters best. Summer squash was so good. Stone fruit and tomato salad was a little spicy but wonderful. Shishito peppers were heavenly. Full flavors on every dish along with contrasting textures and the freshest ingredients made this meal incredibly special. I've been here many times over the years and it truly never disappoints. Bravo team!! Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable, but a little overated
Interesting food, perhaps a little pretentious and quite small plates. Service was good. But, very cold aircon and very, very noisy (high ceilings, no soft furnishing to dampen noise). A little on the expensive side and a perhaps a bit over-rated.

We were back again to Chicago after 3 years and returned to the Girl and the Goat on a Wed evening. We were really happy with the meal that lived up to our expectation. The food was excellent I like to mentioned the scrimp and salad, the goat pate and the duck tatar. Just fantastik on this fourth visit. As said before the music level is kind of high, and makes conversation somewhat stressfull.
Be the first to ReplyCreative small plates.
We enjoyed our meal here, and give the restaurant credit for serving creative dishes. We particularly enjoyed the green beans, chickpea fritters, and goat cheese board. The lamb ribs were well prepared, but the meat-to-fat ratio of the ribs was a bit off-putting for our taste. We also had a chocolate merengue dessert which was very good, but the berry sorbet hardened the merengue and made it a bit tough to chew at times. Overall, a good meal with more hits than misses. We would recommend it for a night out with friends, so that you can sample more of their small plate options.
