Gramercy Tavern New York Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing Celebration
My partner and I eloped in New York, so this meant we were looking for somewhere special to celebrate and have dinner. We chose the Grancery Tavern and they did not disappoint. We had the tasting menu and the wine pairing. Every bite and every pairing was perfect. The staff were exceptional and wonderful to deal with. They went above and beyond, were incredibly professional, knowledgable and friendly and made our wedding night a wonderful experience. Hope to be back as soon as we can on our next visit.
Food - Appetizers: Grilled bread with dips, beet salad.
Entrées: Duck meatloaf, Burger, Pork shoulder. In depth notes on the food: Pork is tasty and juicy. Duck meatloaf is very flavorful. The burger is the staple dish and really tasty. Service - Angel was our server, very knowledgeable and professional. An added benefit to our experience. Ambiance - Professional crowd, not loud. Beautiful and artistic restaurant with high ceiling. Highly recommended

Outstanding dinner! Great wine pairing suggestions from outstanding wait staff. Highly recommend the Tavern Burger, brick pressed chicken and Cauliflower.
Beautiful place, great food, nice service.
Have dined here several times over the years and never been disappointed in the food. Always fresh and well prepared. Seasonal entrees have been delightful. Wine list is well paired with the food.
I made a brunch reservation in the A La Carte Tavern
I made a brunch reservation in the A La Carte Tavern without knowing the menu, the prices, or that it had a Michelin star. The food was good, but portions small and expensive. It's not one that I would go back to.
Really solid price fixe menu and a beautiful restaurant.
Waitress forgot our cheese plate order and some other technical details, which wasn't ideal. Food review below! Arctic char appetizer - 4/5, didn't love the sesame topping (tasted stale?) Squid Ink Seafood Pasta - 5/5, the seafood was insanely yummy Skate - 5/5, so interesting. Loved the textures Lamb - 0/5, this was a huge miss. Overcooked and bland. Sauce was too rich and smoky Lemon Tart - 4/5, good but nothing innovative like the other dishes
Nice place but for old people
The food was tasty, but the atmosphere wasn't what we anticipated. it was a bit of my dad's style so i didn't like it much. recommend for old persons jajaja xD

5 star service!!! I think I just prefer other flavors to American so I thought the food was alright but nothing amazing or mind blowing. Sweet potato duck pasta - fresh pasta texture was good. Sauce was too salty for me and it made it a heavy meal. Besides the salt the flavors were good but it was too glaring of an issue to overlook. Drinks - rlly liked the manhattanhenge drink! Drinks were strong hehe The best thing about gramercy tavern was that they were really accommodating for allergies. My friend has a lot of allergies and they were able to modify the dishes for him while preserving the flavor!!! Moreover, it was his birthday and they saw how much he enjoyed the allergy friendly cake that they sent another one with him for the road!!! It was very sweet and the service was excellent!!!

We had a great lunch here for a friend's birthday on a Thursday. Got seated by the window with comfy bench seats and it was a gorgeous sunny day outside. The food was excellent (citrus beet salad - fantastic and fresh, arctic char (very flavourful and light and perfectly done), the potato leek soup (creamy and lovely) and brisket sandwich (great), the chicken (nicely done), a chocolate pudding (rich and delish), the pear cake (great), and an extra slice of birthday cake with icing/banana. We were VERY full after. However, the service was extremely slow (but friendly and knowledgeable when it was there). We didn't get our bread (fresh and good - but we had to ask for butter/oil) for 10-15 minutes after we had ordered our meal. And we had to flag down a different waiter for dessert after waiting 20 minutes (our table had been cleared already). Would definitely come back for the ambience and food!
Great Vegetarian Tasting Menu + Wine Pairing
A vegetarian tasting menu with wine paring had no down sides for a single diner! The Big 3s: Ambience: buzzing and busy, not the most lovely romantic chairs throughout with dark hard wood on your back, but I had a booth Service: Morgan and his team of 7+ year excellence continue to deliver Food: incredible plate arrangements of vegetarian specialties up to a final filling course. High Points: hand delivered potato chips warm from frier Low Points: only one choice of bread; their whipped flavored butter; Chardonnay as part of the white wine tasting menu even though I asked to skip that part.... Unique Points: incredible special moist breakfast coffee cake given on checkout to take home for breakfast, and I did!
Always great food.
And service. And before or after visit the Teddy Roosevelt home next door.
Favorite place in New York
This is one of my favorite places to eat in New York. Never made it to the big dining room, so this review is limited to the bar area experience. Friends who travel to the city a lot recommended this for an early dinner a few years ago. We were impressed by the seasonal menu and wide variety of specialty cocktails. I've been back several times since and it is always good. The service is always polite and prompt. We once went there for late lunch, early dinner fresh off the plane. We were likely there too early for the dinner menu, but they worked with us and made the early evening experience great. I do not think I have ever had the same thing twice when going there. I always dive into something new and have not been disappointed. My cousin, who lives nearby, says the burger is great but I have never had the chance to try it.
Worth GOING!!!
It was Christmas 🎄 in NYC, for us westerners. We had just gone to see the Theadore Roosevelt museum, ( I made reservations for this restaurant, knowing it was close to the museum and very necessary, because it is a poplar restaurant). I LOVED the decorations, ( I couldn’t believe it they have a full-time florist on staff) and the vib! I had Duck Meat Loaf, $34.00, we both had cranberry daiquiris, $19.00 each, ( but worth it just to take n the atmosphere),

Gramercy Tavern lives up to its name and reputation! I was invited here for a baby shower and was blown away. Firstly, the service was impeccable. Aquila (hope I spelled that right) took such great care of us!! Her and the staff made us feel right at home, everyone was so friendly. They were also very attentive, I noticed that my napkin was folded every time I got up to use the restroom. Onto the food- my favorite was the sweet potato lumache with a duck ragu. Flavortown!!! Pasta was cooked perfectly-al dente. I also loved the dessert which wasn't my typical choice. It was a pear upside down cake. Sooooo good. Not one crumb left. Also got a chocolate chip cookie to go. The restaurant was beautiful inside. Very cozy and had gorgeous arrangements and decor. Would return again in the future!
Best Burger I've ever had, hands down 11/10.
Worthy of the michelin star. Price is worth. The fish and the beef tartare were good, but get the burger! Come here.
Worthy of the hype and spend
Lived up to the hype and exceeded expectations. The service was both attentive and casual.... the sweet spot. This is a well oiled pro team that takes joy in their work. My waitress knew her stuff cold but had the friendliness of a Kentucky Waffle House lifer. The setting is beautiful and roomy for Manhattan. The cocktail menu was great and, in an exception to a sometimes pricey menu, I enjoyed a great $10 port. After the meal. The cheese course was a bargain $16 add-on and well worth it. The sweet potato agnotollo was like crack. And the duck breast was just perfect in every way. Even the bread and amuse buche were terrific. With tip a $300 meal that somehow felt like a bargain. Bravo!
Solid like always
The quality of ingredients and preparation of the dishes is incredible. Every dish was unique… the portions were generous despite it was a restaurant week menu. We enjoyed the ambiance, not too loud in the dining area and service was excellent. Our server Dristan was very friendly and professional. We will come back for sure
Pathetic food
A month later, I am still thinking about the pathetic dinning experience I had at Gramercy Tavern. The Thai based appetizer consisted of few chunks of cucumber with 2 pieces of carrot and a few peanuts. Tasteless, bland and absolutely boring. My entree was pasta with lobster. Three minuscule pieces of lobster with noodles in a tasteless sauce. I’m still trying to comprehend how or why this food was served. It was awful and outrageously expensive. Shame on the chefs. Don’t waste your time or money here!
First Time and Last Time at Gramercy Tavern
I was really looking forward to lunch at Gramercy Tavern during restaurant week in NYC and ended up so disappointed. None of the dishes stood out. The shrimp Lumache was three shrimp on top of pasta in a tasteless red sauce. The sweet potato agnolotti was bland. Roast duck (for an extra $15) was okay but not special. The chicken with onion rings was okay.
A fading star?
Not the best of dinner experiences, and far from what one would expect at this price point. The two entrees' absence of acidity and/or flavor is one issue. In essence, the two dishes consisted of uncooked fish and raw beetroot. Both the pasta dishes, on the other hand, were delicious and rich in taste. Our hopes were high when we received one of our favorites, striped bass. Unfortunately, the fish was not properly filleted. Fish scales and one bone in the first bite could be overlooked, but additionally, the fish had been overcooked to the point of threadiness. We lost even more of our enthusiasm when encountering the lamb dish. Lamb can be difficult in January, but when the lamb tastes close to mutton with an intense flavor, there is a need for contrasting elements or tastes. We started longing for the plate to be taken away after the first bite. The duck, on the other hand, was unfortunately overcooked, approaching gray in color rather than medium-rare. On the bright side the accompanying vegetables for both mains were very well prepared. The duck was also returned to the kitchen without more than a small dent in the meat. When we came to the dessert, we found it delicious. It would have been appreciated if waiters inquired about any concerns regarding the food when guests barely touched the plates. Additionally, it is appreciated when waiters pour wine. However, they were vigilant in replenishing water glasses. We ended up racking up a $600 bill for unfortunate encounters with a couple of dishes, but with two great pasta dishes, a great dessert, and a paper bag with scrumptious apple cake. At least we had an evening we will not soon forget and a well-deserved reminder that a Michelin star is not a guarantee for consistent cooking or filleting skills.
