Hama Restaurant was perfect for our family group of 12
Hama Restaurant was perfect for our family group of 12 (ages 4-65 yrs). Our table of 12 was ready upon arrival. Service was fast & friendly. We were glad our waitress was willing to do 3 separate checks upon request. Sushi was super fresh. Ambience was quiet casual. The prices were very reasonable, especially since we were right by Rockefeller Center area & only 1/2 block from RadioCity Music Hall.. Only thing was that 1 of the 2 individual bathrooms was not flushing well. Staff was aware & tried to fix it at least temporarily.. Overall we had a fantastic experience at Hama & would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyI was at a meeting where we worked through lunch.
Our hosts ordered lunch from Hama and the sushi was delicious. I enjoyed the spicy tuna rolls, Philadelphia roll (salmon and creamy cream cheese, as well as the vegetarian roll. One of the best vegetarian rolls I have had. The edamame we ordered as a side was also well done and, of course, delicious. Great sushi option.

I came here on a bit of a whim with a friend and was fairly impressed. You walk downstairs into a basement restaurant that lived up to its title of being Japanese cuisine.Service was first rate, prompt, friendly, etc. I ordered a saketini to start which was better than I expected it to be. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, which was plenty of food. Presentation was great, variety was great, and it tasted great.
Be the first to ReplyFresh food, great atmosphere and delightful service.
I would highly recommend this restaurant which is modest in appearance but the food is fantastic and beautifully decorated dishes!Prices are reasonable and once again, great service! If you have never eaten with chopsticks, trust me, their food entices you to start, just for the experience!A hidden gem, you will not be disappointed!

Great service and food! I made a reservation and our table was ready as soon as we went in. The location and ambiance was also great! I highly recommend it and would eat there again!
Be the first to ReplySushi was so fresh! Service was amazing very kind staff.
The quality of the food was best I've had in a while

We enjoyed great food, with helpful menu recommendations from staff. We ordered a range of small plates to share. The drinks menu was extensive and reasonably priced. We really enjoyed our meal here.

I've dined here a couple of times over the years since it's near my office. My most recent visit is with a party of 10 on Friday night. There were some diners but it wasn't packed. The waitress surprised all of us by taking all 10 orders and repeating them back to us without writing anything down. The food came out fairly quickly and the sushi was satisfying. One complaint was that the temperature in the restaurant was very toasty, which deterred me from ordering ramen.

Looks like your typical midtown corporate hangout, but food was solid, service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was very accommodating. We showed up at hour before closing and they were kind enough to let us sit through a little after closing with no fuss at all. Our party of three got the sushi / sashimi combo for three, which came in a giant boat, beautifully presented. While not the most memorable sushi, the fish was fresh, flavor pairings were decent, and price was not too bad for an NYC dinner. Solid, reliable spot for a dinner in midtown.

Overall 3/5: We stopped in for a quick lunch because everyone was craving sushi. Drinks 4/5: I ordered the White Lily which was great and my friend enjoyed the sake sangria. Food 3/5: Not my favorite, a lot of it was kind of bland. I got the chicken teriyaki bento box which the chicken was okay. As was everything else. My friends got the katsu don and the oyaku don which they said was great. They loved the sauce on it and said the dish was very rich. We also got some rolls which were okay. We went with the rock shrimp tempura, i wouldn't get it again. My friends enjoyed the other roll we got though, which was the red dragon. Everything was either hit or miss. Vibe 4/5: Very quiet inside, but it was very clean. I would've loved to see how it is during dinner service. Service 3/5: Our server was very patient with us. Knowledgeable about the menu. Food came out pretty sporadically though. Thank you, Hama Japanese Cuisine.
Be the first to ReplySuper great food, good service.
Fresh sushi. Nice and quiet unlike a lot of places in midtown. The cocktails were creative and very good too! I really recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Takes a while for your food to be ready- especially during lunch rush hour time but the quality of the sushi is really amazing! The spicy eel mango roll, spicy salmon and shrimp tempura are absolutely delicious
Be the first to ReplyDownstairs restaurant.
Steep stairs. Staff were friendly and greeted us once we arrived to the bottom. Felt a little rushed to eat and pay since we arrived 30-40 min til closing time. Definitely understand that employees want to go home after a long day of work though. Rolls were good. And I loved my drink. Had to pay $1 for spicy mayo and not sure how I ended up paying $60ish when I only ordered 2 rolls and 1 drink.

Went in for late night dining and we were fortunate to find a table for 5 as 10 PM walk-ins. Wait staff was very helpful and attentive but never intrusive. Food was unique (we thought) and really delicious. Portions not huge but satisfying. Inventive cocktails as well. Will certainly return.
Be the first to ReplyKind of hidden.
.. have to go down some stairs to find it, but worth a visit! Amazing sushi, sake, and appetizers! Their spicy spider roll was incredible.

Stopped in here for lunch yesterday because I was craving sushi. The service was quick and the sushi was good. Started with the house salad- great ginger dressing. For sushi we got 2 spicy tuna rolls, a rainbow roll, and a yellowtail jalapeño roll. All tasted fresh and satisfied the craving. The sushi is also pretty well priced. I would definitely stop by here again if I am in the area.
Be the first to ReplyService was great! We had the age tofu.
Yum! And takoyaki. Fantastic!Sushi and Sashimi Combo was delish
Be the first to ReplyHorrible experience.
We had an omakase eel over rice and a snow crab roll. Fish was not fresh!!! Food quality was not good. I might have been infected by norovirus from raw fish. Be aware!!!I am suffering from diarrhea....
Be the first to ReplyHama has always been our favorite Japanese sushi restaurant
Hama has always been our favorite Japanese sushi restaurant in Midtown/5th Avenue/Rockefeller Center area. Sure there's a lot of other Japanese sushi restaurants in the area, even Michelin-starred, but the prices are so exorbitant, I'd be too stressed to enjoy the food. At Hama the food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing and the prices are reasonable. And did I mention already that it's right across the street from Rockefeller Center and just around the corner from the best 5th Avenue window shopping? No matter how often we visit, we always discover dishes we haven't tried before that become our favorites. Currently the warm mushroom salad is our must-order. We feel healthy because we're eating greens, but these lettuce leaves have been blissfully wilted by warm button, shiitake and oyster mushroom with sesame mustard butter sauce. There's a little crunch from the rice paper crisps that garnish the salad. The Shrimp and Vegetable tempura entree portion is very generous and filling. The tempura is lightly battered and not oily. We once plunked down $700 for dinner at the famed Ten-ichi Tempura in Tokyo. Although Hama is a little chintzy with the grated radish and already mix it into the dipping sauce before bringing it to the table, I honestly prefer the tempura at Hama! My husband usually picks out different sushi rolls, classic and more adventurous combos. This time I picked the rolls (Special California topped with scallop and dotted with yuzu ponzu mayo; Philadelphia salmon, avocado and cream cheese is a classic! And Rock Shrimp tempura sushi. We loved them so much we're going to order the same rolls (and salad and tempura) on our next visit! One request to put this restaurant over the top - It would be even more heavenly if Hama added Echigo rice beer to their drink menu!
