This is suppose to be one of the top bars in the world? I'm confused to as why. The concept is cool, it's a speakeasy type bar that you would not expect on the outside. The service was good, the interior of the actual bar was cool, but the drinks were a different story. My friend group and I ordered 5 different drinks. I ordered the white palace which I would not recommend. We all passed around our drinks to try and unfortunately, none of which were cocktails we enjoyed. You are really only paying for the experience as they do have a cool concept and the inside is very aesthetic. If you're looking for a good cocktail place I would look elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyHanky Panky Cocktail Bar is on the 50 Best Bar list.
It does not deserve to be on the 50 Best Bar list. The best thing about the bar is the atmosphere. It's hidden inside a local taquería which makes finding it and entering a fun experience - unless you're late. Even exiting is fun, but I'll leave you to discover why on your own. Then come the drinks and staff. The drinks are...okay. At best they're normal good. I've had many cocktails at neighborhood bars that are better and cheaper. Right now (March 2024) the menu has a distinctly olive motif. Many drinks have olive garnishes, olive brine, or tasting notes of olive. If you don't like olive don't come. Those drinks are fine because it's their specialty, but their flavors are monotone olive. The drinks without olive like God Save the Queen are generic. That drink in particular tasted like peach flavored vodka you'd buy in college even though it's gin based. Their best drinks are on their guest drink menu from better bars like Connaught Bar in London or Sips in Barcelona. In summary, you're wasting your money buying cocktails here at these prices. Even one of the bartenders directly told me he cares more for atmosphere than the taste of drinks. If that's the overall attitude of staff, that's a problem. I've drank at most of the top 10 bars on the current 50 Best List and many others lower on the list so I feel that I have some credibility. Hanky Panky isn't bad, but it's obviously overrated for flavor. This bar is a disappointment.

The place is a bit more spacious than Handshake and the music is a bit lower so we could actually talk. But the presentation of the drinks and explanations by the staff were lacking. I felt that Handshake actually made itself an experience. The caprese drink here was just ok- no one was blown away by their drink here

Speakeasy that's tucked inside a taco shop. Highly recommend reservation as it's a popular destination. Enter and be escorted into the speakeasy space. Moody, dark, with vibrant neon signs. Bar seating a limited booth seating. Energetic staff but do wish they were a bit more personal and engaged with us. Menu is called Passport, a logbook and reflection of experience and connection from around the world. Each drink is inspired by another country. - God Save the Queen: tequila altos plata, licor limoncello, licor de durazno - SPQR: lillet blanc, tito's vodka infused with citrus, soda de galliano con agua de coco - White Palace: tito's vodka infused with alga nagai. soda calpis de durazno clarificado, st. germain, saline - Tiger Punch: ron matusalem gran reserva 15, amaretoo disaronno, sriracha, te negro, pimienta negra, pimienta roja, cardamomo, clavo, curry, lemongrass, curcuma, jengibre, limon, piel de limon amarillo Favorite drink was Tiger Punch. Very complex balance of flavors, rich, not too spicy. Second favorite was SPQR, which was fresh, vibrant, and light. When you're done, you'll exit through a secret door disguised as a beverage fridge. very Instagrammable and fun.

Of course we had to go to hanky panky to try one of the top 50 bars in the world. Definitely a cool concept, you have to through a taco place and the speakeasy type bar is in the bar and then you come out of a fridge! You have try it out for yourself. The drinks are pricy but that is as expected, and it's small so definitely make reservations or could be waiting for up to 2 hours. The concept when we went was drinks from around the world and the menu was like a passport. I ordered one of the specialty cocktails that had vodka and a dirty martini. They have shared tables so we sat with another group and there's bar seating. Would recommend checking it out if you can!

Wasn't able to score a reservation, but we showed up hoping to get walk in seats. The hostess area looks like a small restaurant/shop with a very large picnic table where you can sit and wait. We were fortunate to get there at the right time and only had to wait about 30 minutes to go in. You enter through the back of the kitchen area into a really cool speakeasy. We were seated at a booth with two other couples, we were stuck in the middle but it was fine. Drinks were tasty, we had 2 to 3 each. You end up exiting through a fake refrigerator back into the fake? Store/restaurant front. Definitely one of my top Mexico City stops for cocktails and ambiance!

The vibe was my favorite thing! The drinks are unique, and watching the bartenders make them was exciting. The speakeasy looks like a taco shop on the outside. Make a reservation but often some don't show up so we didn't have to wait long for a spot.
Be the first to ReplyWe didn't eat there.
Wasn't offered a food menu and didn't ask for one. Although there was a kitchen before entering the speakeasy portion. The staff was very friendly and clearly worked as a team. The drinks were absolutely unique and the four we tried were all delicious. It's a very intimate setting with great music and energy.
Be the first to ReplyI may have gotten into trouble here.
Haha. After being left by an Uber occupied by my American BF (didn't know how to say wait) I decided to take matters into my own hands, secretly through a pizza restaurant. I was slightly confused since there is no sign anything is really happening, but I must have stood out, haha. I was taken through a secret door and entered a very private, not crazy crazy occupied- just enough - and some very good music. Trust me when I say time will fly when you don't have windows and crafty good cocktails are being sent your way. Needless to say, I met some nice people who felt my pain and then helped me to get a car back. Dress code, look good!

hands down one of my favorite bars in cdmx for this particular vibe. the entry and exist is kind of insane because it's pretty well hidden (luckily it's findable on google maps)! Everyone in the area knew that it existed and its hilarious to see signs around nearby like "this is not hanky panky" and pointing in the correct direction. won't spoil the surprise because it's honestly super delightful and the vibes are REALLY good inside, there's this bright red light ambience from the neon sign on the wall and the bartender was fantastic. I forgot exactly what I ordered but all of the menu items are associated with a major city and has the corresponding flavors from that location.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was the highlight of my last CDMX trip.
I met a colleague here for drinks and while it's a little hard to find, the cocktails did not disappoint and ambiance did not disappoint. Each cocktail is modeled after a different place with the flavors indicative of that place. Our bartender was amazing and the other patrons were incredible as well. New fav bar in CDMX.
