Small hotel facing a noisy street
This is a quaint boutique hotel, with small rooms and a feel of a farm house with apple trees in the back yard. I don’t like chain establishments and usually stay in smaller hotels. Eric (staff/owner) let me check in after 2pm, which was nice, and offered an available room when I mentioned that my room faced a noisy street. And this is the reason for 3 stars. When booking a hotel, one relies on other reviews and pure luck. Unfortunately, the hotel location was not great, facing 7th Ave on one side and a PG&E station with lots of traffic on the other side. If you’re a light sleeper like me, bring ear plugs and eye mask because the window blinds don’t block street lights. On the positive, the room was small but clean, with own bathroom and small kitchen. Harbor cafe was closed for a staff appreciation week, so I brought my food. Only a 10 min walk to the beach and a 10 min drive to downtown. Suggestion to management for better customer experience: * install noise/light blocking curtains *provide plastic plates/utensils * replace a heavy frame picture above the bad with a light one, to avoid injuries during an earthquake

Homey and clean, friendly staff, wi-fi worked most but not all of the time. Appreciated the refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker in room 306. The walls are thin, so I would bring earplugs just in case you don't have the quietest neighbors. The bed was fine for me, but soft and oddly slants a bit from the middle to each side. Unless you want to stop at the small deli/grocery about 1/2 way to the beach on 7th, I'd advise turning right at the first signal (Eaton, sign toward East Harbor) and walk to the beach via 6th Ave. - much quieter and you can see how folks have fixed up their homes and gardens (or not). For larger supply run there's a Safeway about 5 - 7 min drive away.

Stayed two nights, mid-week off-season. Check-in was easy, but check-in hours restrictive. Older property, room clean, bright and tidy, but bed comfort only so-so for us. Nice to have microwave, small fridge and coffee maker, but missed not having any breakfast. Good cafe down the street, but breakfast for two will run you something like $35. Walls pretty thin and building creaky, but fortunately the neighbors were quiet and considerate when we were there. Quite a bit of road noise in the morning -- if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs. Even though the daytime high temperature was only in the 60's, the room was pretty warm and there is no a/c. We did use the fan, which helped. 45 minute walk to the part of downtown where we had dinner (and we are not slow walkers), many small hotels quite a bit closer. Nice that this is not a national chain, and price (about $100/night on our visit) was not unreasonable, but we'll likely look elsewhere next time.

Found on hotel.com and chosen for good reviews. Clean and quiet inn. Big room with huge king size bed. Very near to harbor and 5 minutes away from downtown. Parking available no cost. Average price and a good stay for 3-4 days.

A nice small motel close to the beach of Santa Cruz. close to supermarket and small places where you can have breakfast (no option for breakfast at the hotel). The room was comfortable and clean. Free parking. We had a problem with the WiFi connection but the woman at the reception just checked us in and went away so we had nobody to ask to solve the problem. We stayed 2 nights but the reception open up only on 10:00, (we left before) and by the time we came back it was already closed.

Stayed just two nights, but I would definitely stay here again. The room was clean, quaint, and the bed was comfortable. I was able to arrange a late check in. This is what a seaside hotel should be. It felt like home. Plenty of hot water and good shower pressure. I enjoyed my stay here.

Good price, good quality. More like a b&b. Mid-century funky. Comfortable. Nice caretakers and staff. I shared a toilet/shower, total non-issue. A comfy chair in my room (206) would have been nice and a box of tissues.

We found the room nice and clean. Charming with a great location. No breakfast or snacks served, but less than a block to Harbor Cafe. Easy walk to the Harbor and the Crow's nest restaurant. We found the bed acceptable in comfort. We paid $140 (including all fees) per night through Hotel.com. We stayed Saturday and Sunday.

I looked at a (very nice) typical motel for our recent trip to Santa Cruz. I'm sure it would have met our needs, but I "pulled the trigger" on the Harbor Inn. The HI is a great choice if you want a more "homey" surrounding. We had a room in the front with a private bathroom (good option for us older folks). Not perfect - the TV is small and the curtains do not block out much light - but more than met our needs. Good location, also.
