Simply a great place
We booked for family dinner on Friday 15th April. We were granted a nice table for 4 by the window. The restaurant has a nice Authentic Japanese setting and lay-out, with a patio garden on the back, which we would love to try if we have the opportunity to come back to NYC on a warmer period. All sushis were super fresh and menu offered a rare selection of fish. We enjoyed very much the large sushi Omakase, the tuna special (5 different tuna pieces x 2) and great maki rolls (Unagi, Negi Toro were simply stunning). The restaurant manager was really helpful and kind, and you could feel passion in every of his explanation. I would highly recommend this place.

Hadn't been here in years (when it was beloved by family). Curious, dropped by at Christmas, pretty empty, refused sushi bar seat (a couple was coming, but never showed). Sushi & Sashimi ($39) dish arrived; tuna looked wan. Waiter opened menu and suggested that it's because I hadn't ordered the more expensive dish that offers "premium" fish. Tuna sashimi was irregularly, thinly cut. I've since had better at Asuka on W. 23 (awesome Cloud9 roll) and Kawa on 8th av., both with excellent service and fresh, ample sashimi.

Hasaki is my FAVORITE restaurant in NYC. I've been a regular since 2014, and Gosh, I feel at home there. The all-Japanese staff is lovely and professional. I love the hostess, she is an amazing person. The food is of course delicious like no other. I am simply in love with the whole menu. But I have to say, their garlic beef is THE best ever. Every time we go there, we order about 5 garlic beef dishes and pig out on them. Japanese food is not meant for sharing I think, but we are Turkish, and we cannot help it. Thank you HASAKI

Little cozy place for authentic Japanese sushi. We had omakase - chef’s choice, and sat at he sushi bar. The fish is very different from what normally one has, and they are directly from Japan. We decided to follow the traditional Japanese way to have the sushi piece by piece instead all sushi on a plate served together. The chef explained to us the fish name on each single sushi and kept filling up the pickled ginger. Omakase is fine dinning so it is on the pricey side. Customer service is excellent. This place worth to have omakase.

The cat's delight only because the one's I know would be purring. Christmas day 2019 and a year ago, my friend I feasted on the best catch in town. And our waiter remembered me and my date. He patiently guided us through many options. Just little gestures like a warm towel from the start made me want to realize why Japan Town in SF and the pier is light years behind Hasaki.

We Happened to be nearby (lower Eastside) for a jewelry show and just searched for Japanese restaurants in the area since we were starving. This one had excellent reviews so we took a chance. Made an early reservation and took Lyft over immediately.
Once seated, We noted a compact menu (just missed the Happy Hour menu).
It’s a small place decorated in the typical decor.
We noted immediately that it had less American style dishes ( combination A, B, C) and more Japanese style dishes. A good sign.
We ordered some appetizers that were delicious! We ordered a few other dishes that we were also very tasty.
Five stars for preparation, execution, fresh components, and the menu.
The Chirashi was excellent, the other dishes came off the daily menu (sautéed mushrooms, egg plant, grilled ribeye and dessert).
Great lunch super delicious sushi
I have been going to Hasaki for over 35 years, and it has always been a neighborhood favorite.
I went there for lunch last Sunday with my daughter I had the sushimi platter everything was delicious and super fresh, and my daughter had the maki special which she also loved. They also have a very good bento box for lunch.
A Wonderful Japanese cuisine option in Manhattan
I've been going to this restaurant since it opened (practically). I can't remember the first visit but it must be around 33 years ago. It was the obvious choice for those of us (in the arts) to go for a fantastic sushi / sashimi dinner. Japanese restaurants were blossoming in town and yet, "we knew" the secret to this sub-basement pearl.
If you happen to want a reliable Japanese meal (in the old days, we used to call Hasaki "creative". Nowadays it is simply a "reliable" and wonderful restaurant where you can listen to bossa nova musak and enjoy a typically crowded East Village environment.
I am a devout fan. Have been so for over three decades.
Am just coming back from Sunday lunch there. Wonderful as always

Incredible service, incredible sushi!
First when you sit, they bring you hot towels for your hands!! Incredible. Then the service was great, and sushi was so so fresh. One of my friends is not a huge sushi person, but inhaled hers she loved it so much. To finish off, they bring you hot green tea. Delightful food, fantastic service. Don’t miss this gem!

Did my research. Although this rates very high, I would not give more than 2-1/2 stars (adequate). Comfortable space and friendly attentive staff. Despite my being the first to arrive, was one of only handful of patrons and was sitting solo at the bar the chefs did not care one way or another that I was there. Their presentation was only satisfactory, portions were modest and freshness was across the board. Price was acceptable for a walk-in sushi restaurant. If, as the reviews would suggest, this is a 4-1/2 star sushi restaurant in NYC you could spend your money more wisely. If you can’t afford high end omakase you should get your sushi fix in another city where they may still take pride in offering more than a pedestrian experience.
