Unreal!
Literally incredible. It’s absolutely so inspiring to see a 2-person team run this whole show! This is as farm to table as you get with unique ingredients that most restaurants would never have access to. They told us how they are the ones that are involved in everything from picking up all of the ingredients from local farms to full preparation and cooking of the food. It’s a very special place!!! Food was incredible.

First of all, they don't take credit cards and you won't find this out until the end of the meal so be prepared. I was very excited to try this place as it sounded right up our alley. We enjoy adventuresome eating experiences, tasting menus and wine pairings so I thought this little farm to table place in Brooklyn would be terrific. We were seated and the wait staff asked if we had ordered the tasting or omekase menu. I had to look at our reservation and it was the tasting. It was not explained clearly that the tasting menu did not come with the drink pairings so I thought this was an obligatory part of the meal. There is no wine list, just one cocktail, and three unknown wines printed on a diminutive little piece of paper so our choices would have been limited no matter what. An amuse bouche arrived first and the server warned us that the little herb in the middle was meant to open our seven senses (7?) and could be very strong but that we could stop the flavor with the dollop of cream to its left on the plate. We are surprised by almost nothing these days as we have eaten in more Michelin starred and creative restaurants than I'd like to admit but this was actually painful. The taste was like a medicinal attack and the little cream bite next to it was not sufficient to calm the onslaught. The little blob of pickled something to the right only added to the problem and, sadly the first drink had not arrived. When it came, I hoped for relief but it was an overly sweet, syrupy red cocktail which would have been better suited as the base for a kir royal. Far too strong and concentrated. I was suffering so I poured a little water into it which made it almost palatable. Six more plates followed, almost all of them amuse bouche size, one scallop and one clam. No meat, A few mushrooms. One dish was not hot throughout and had obviously been reheated in the microwave. No bread to accompany or flesh out the meal. There were a few interesting combinations but for a meal which ended up costing us $350 for two people, it was terrible value. There were a few glasses of really mediocre wine included in the $60 per person wine pairing. The red came in a cider botte and suffered from brett contamination so that was undrinkable and there was another little concoction which I think must be similar to mead - overly sweet again. It might have made a good base for a champagne cocktail but made no sense with the menu. The servers were all very friendly and enthusiastic and I like the idea behind the place but the execution was fair at best and the price point was far too high for a few mushrooms, a little pasta and some salad.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing wild to table food, and very near me! Will go again for sure
I went to Honey Badger because I was looking for good quality wild to table food near me, and I was truly impressed. We went for a romantic date, and not only the food is outstanding, like nothing I have ever tried before, but also every plate comes with a story of where each ingredient comes from - the owners and at the same time the chefs (which are absolutely lovely by the way) take personal care of getting the ingredients from local foragers, local fresh markets or sometimes even harvesting them themselves. I really loved the attention and the cozy environment in the restaurant, and will for sure go again. 5 stars!
Be the first to ReplyA memorable experience
Honey Badger is really more than a restaurant, it is a food experience. In a little store front on a side street, the decor is rustic and the owner very welcoming. He takes you on a gastronomic and philosophic tour of little tasting dishes prepared from biodynamic, organic, foraged, obscure ingredients. It is expensive and you better bring lots of cash. The wine was $60 per bottle and the minimal tasting menu was $74 per person. It was a great, almost religious, experience!

Tucked away on a side street in Brooklyn near Prospect Park - Honey Badger is worth finding. It’s a culinary expedition led by a truly creative team that brings genuine enthusiasm, great food and service to your table. The tasting menu and wine pairings is an experience to remember-it’s pricey and well worth it.

This place boggles the mind. What is going on here? It’s a limited seated, small crewed, pirate-underground speakeasy restaurant serving momentary glimpses of the micro seasons of the northeastern terroir. They have a 7 course tasting that changes daily. There is also an Omakase option. Even the music is intriguing & alluring. Not for everyone; it’s got an international vibe. That mind blowing amuse. #wildtotable

I came here with my husband, who was intrigued by the positive reviews. We both eat out very often, live in NYC and don't mind spending money on our favorite pastime -- eating. Our meal at Honey Badger was straight up disappointing. From start to finish, everything about this place was off. Cocktails were not served at the same time. I had to wait 10 minutes to receive my drink after my husband had been served his glass of wine... by the way, we were the only people in the restaurant, so there was no backlog at the bar. When it arrived, my Old Fashioned was not well mixed and not particularly good until about the last sip when 100% of the flavor was waiting at the bottom of the glass. I (stupidly) ordered another and thought to stir it myself, but this had little impact on the overall enjoyment of the drink. Garnishes of dried mint (?) and an attractive but unwieldy sprig of wheat did nothing to enhance the flavor. The amuse bouche was nothing short of a disaster. Two small sprigs of a herbaceous something accompanied by a dollop of creme. Our server mentioned something about it "melting in your mouth", but not only was it not flavorful, but it felt like eating raw herbs chased but some light creme fraiche. It was further off putting to have it brought to the table, only to have the various elements on the plate manually "adjusted" by the server in front of me with their bare hands. Yuck... The menu is very limited, which in itself is not necessarily bad if the quality of food is good. I had reasonably high expectations based on the delicious smells coming from the kitchen and a price point that was on the higher end ($76ish for tasting menu and $120 for the omakase per person). I decided to order a'la carte as there were only about 7 items on the menu (inclusive of both appetizers and entrees) so the tasting menu didn't seem like it made much sense given that between the two of us we would individually order over 50% of the menu items. Both the salad and the bison were totally unmemorable. Both were "deconstructed" and very, very small. The bison was comprised of over-cooked flakes of protein in a pastry shell garnished with a bit of green. It was about 3 mouthfuls for the price of $36. Seriously.... I eat out in NY at fine restaurants and indulge in tasting menus with smaller portions all of the time, but this price to value ratio is patently absurd. I left the restaurant and grabbed a bite at a local place near my apartment to fill in the gaps. I often pay $75 to $100 per person for a nice dinner; however, at $180 (including tip) this left me with a bad taste in my mouth.... bad cocktails, small portions, poor execution. To be fair, my husband enjoyed his Octopus Carpaccio and "Chicken of the Woods" Angnolotti better than I did, but he admitted that both of my dishes were substandard. Perhaps the regular chef had the night off, but I won't be returning to find out.

I’ve eaten in hundreds of amazing restaurants around the world, many of which are forgotten months later. This experience, however, will remain. We have to admit that the food wasn’t all amazing, so don’t expect Michelin-starred cooking. What you can expect, is the blood, sweat and tears of a wonderful husband and wife, along with their gorgeous 7-year old daughter. This is a tiny venue with a minuscule kitchen, so we felt and were honoured to be eating ‘in their home’. The menu changes daily, much of the ingredients foraged locally. The inventiveness was wonderful, presentation gorgeous and taste, well, up and down. We’d still not give this up for anything, the evening was amazing. PS. If you’re in a hurry, this ain’t for you. Take your time and enjoy the experience.
Be the first to ReplySmall! But tasty
This restaurant is small in every sense of the word. Small room (max 20 guests), tiny kitchen (you won’t believe how little space they have to cook), very limited menu (check before you go that there will be something everyone in your party will eat - my millennial son would not have eaten anything on the menu if we’d taken him.) That said, the owner-chefs have big hearts and big dreams. Fun to talk to. The food is very tasty and everything super fresh, sustainable.
Be the first to ReplyImaginative cuisine in a charming space, with even more charming hosts
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. The reason? Every dish has at least one ingredient I've never tasted. The food is so imaginative, beautifully cooked. The ingredients are locally sourced, some of them foraged. The owners are charming and low key. It's a really unique experience to eat there, and I love that you can bring your own bottle of favorite wine.
