Hôtel Costes Restaurant Paris Reviews
Unfortunate experience
Despite a beautiful restaurant, we had a very unfortunate experience. We were received by a very unpolite and improperly dressed hostess, only to seat the the table and realize all waitress dressed inappropriately. It made the entire family uncomfortable. Not recommended.
Terrible service.
What a terrible experience at a fine dining restaurant. The manager(s)/owners should be ashamed of the service of their personnel. Our concierge had booked the restaurant and sought a table in the patio, which wasn’t available when we arrived and we were seated inside. The reason given was that it was on a first come and first served basis. We gracefully accepted that. Then when a table became available and the patio was more or less sparsely occupied, we requested to be moved there. One of the waiters who took out desert orders said we could move and that he would serve our dessert there. Upon moving to that section, the hostess(the original hostess - Yasmin) who had said it was on a first come first served basis told us within earshot of other guests told us us to move back to our table inside because this section was only for hotel guests. Obviously, a contradiction with their original comment. This left us feeling insulted, confused and with a terrible sense that we were being discriminated against. I dislike using the word racist but it couldn’t find any other explanation. I was in the company of well heeled gentlemen and it couldn’t have been anything to do with our collective conduct.
Awful
I was really disappointed with my experience here. From the moment we arrived, the hostess was extremely rude to us. We were sat completely isolated, far away from everyone else, which felt intentional and humiliating. When I complained, they moved us slightly closer, but by then the damage was already done—I just felt unwelcome and disrespected. A restaurant should make every guest feel comfortable, but instead I left feeling devastated by how we were treated. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to others based on the lack of basic courtesy and hospitality.
Sexy Ambiance, Meh Mains Go for the Vibe, Oysters & Cocktails
We visited Costes in Paris and were instantly impressed by the ambiance sexy, intimate, and undeniably chic. The mood lighting and sultry setting make it perfect for a date night. We went as a family, which wasn’t ideal, as the vibe is definitely geared toward couples or small groups of adults. Service was mixed. Our first waitress had her hair hanging into our glassware (not exactly appetizing), and our order was taken incorrectly by our second waiter .He was sweet and apologetic, but the manager gave us some pushback when we asked to remove the mistake from the bill. It was eventually resolved, but it wasn’t the smoothest experience. The food? Hit or miss. The oysters and cocktails were fantastic fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I had the cucumber martini and strawbery mojito. I’d absolutely come back just for those and a few glasses of wine. The pasta dishes, though, were disappointing and definitely not worth the high-end price tag. We also tried the so-called Kim Kardashian cheesecake apparently the one she flew in to eat. It was good, but definitely not worth jet-setting to Paris for.
Racist Hotel
A truly appalling experience — and one I’ll never forget. We had a confirmed lunch reservation at Hotel Costes, yet upon arrival, the staff insisted there was no booking. No apology, no solution — just cold stares and a dismissive attitude. It felt deliberate. Other guests, all white, were being seated with no issue while we were left standing, unwelcome and ignored. What makes this even more infuriating is that we’ve stayed at Hotel Costes before. We were returning customers, yet we were treated like complete outsiders. Apparently, their so-called “hospitality” doesn’t extend to guests who don’t fit their narrow idea of who belongs. The racism wasn’t subtle — it was direct, and unapologetic. This wasn’t just bad service — it was blatant discrimination. Thankfully, we left and went straight to the Mandarin Oriental Paris, where we were welcomed with genuine warmth and respect. As frequent guests there, they immediately recognized us, offered us a beautiful table, and turned our day around. That’s what real hospitality looks like — professionalism, kindness, and inclusion. Hotel Costes may hide behind candlelight and curated playlists, but underneath it all is an elitist, toxic, and discriminatory environment. If you care about being treated with dignity, go somewhere else. Shame on them — and thank you, Mandarin Oriental, for reminding us what luxury and humanity truly mean.
Awful experience
Awful place. Rude and arrogant Oleg ruined our day. Zero respect. We left without even having lunch. Not recommended at all.
Do the staff even care?
Visited for drinks, tried to get on the terrace - no chance delivered in a very rude way. Service in the bar pretty diabolical - 20 min wait for 2 drinks. Shame as the hotel is visually spectacular with cool and interesting people, shame the staff think they’re too cool for actual customer service.
Rude even for France!
I have traveled and stayed at the nicest hotels in the world and yesterday was a disgrace at the restaurant. So RUDE Never have I ever been treated so poorly by staff and looked down upon for no reason. They assumed because we were not staying at hotel we were not worthy or something crazy… get it together
Great ambience and food. Service needs attention.
We celebrated a dear friend’s birthday at this iconic establishment. For most of us this was a first time visit. The setting, ambience and decor impressed, to the finest detail. The wine list and menu are both impressive and offer great variety. Back ground music contributes to the unique ambiance, unfortunately volume seemed to be increased as it got later, to the point where our table of six could hardly hear each other. The food was simply superb, presentation and taste! Do try the seafood ceviche, fresh asparagus and veal chop. And don’t miss the apple-tart with the finest French pastry! Unfortunately the service did not match the food and ambience, with wine service particularly bad. We had to refill our own glasses and had to get up twice to get our waiters attention. This can be an easy fix though, and we will give it another go on our next trip to Paris!
Disappointed
I have literally never spent as much money on a meal to leave profoundly disappointed and in search of a cafe when I left as I was starving . No one ever asked if meals were okay. One entree arrived 20 mins after others. Do not order pasta. It is not cooked. It might be trendy … but go elsewhere Over priced. Not worth it
Pretty but noxious
A 5 star visual but once you get over the beautiful structure and impactful taste in decor and lighting you are left with snobby and incompetent staff. Mediocre food. What a fall from grace. I’ve come here often. It’s great for people watching but don’t expect a fun evening of interactive and pleasant people.
the lost their style&class
worst experience ever, we know the restaurant, we loved it, for at least the last 20 years… it’s really sad what direction they go, they lost their style&chic
The Bad Reviews are True Particularly Regarding the Manager
I have been dining at Costes since the hotel opened and always loved the swanky atmosphere, good food and good service. However, after my recent visit and the terrible experience we had, I will never return. After dinner, we ordered a glass of wine which was simply undrinkable. We informed the waitress who graciously tried to fix the situation. However, the manager intervened. He was terribly rude, condescending and provided zero customer service. He refused to simply replace the wine as we requested-in fact he forced the waitress to bring the glasses back to our table and insisted that we drink them. I felt badly for the waitress as it was clear he is a bully to the staff and guests. I have never been treated so poorly, and for a frequent customer, I am extremely disappointed in the direction Costes is going. There are far better places to eat, drink and be seen in Paris. Avoid.
Bustling and beautiful
Bustling place with beautiful people, international menu including vegetarian options, good food and nice cocktails. Gorgeous waitresses, not always very efficient nor very friendly. Cool old, style interior.
Hostess
At the entrance the Hostess had a bad service from the start to the end . You have a big terrace where everybody smokes so ask non smoke zone before you enter . And is a dress code , off course you don’t go with joggings . The Hostess can’t make a difference between chino pants and sweatpants . I talk about the blonde one at the entrance . The restaurant service and the food are very good .
Horrible discriminating place
Discrimination towards Chinese as we entered the place they told us to not put our coat on the chair. After a while waiting for a table for 5, we asked why others are allowed to put their coat on the chair, the lady with long hair called a person called sheng another lady and said explain to them why you cannot put your coat, she passed us a jacket and said no table for you take your jacket and get out. Avoid this discriminating place.
