Great food, great service, great atmosphere, can't ask for
Great food, great service, great atmosphere, can't ask for much more! The service is fabulous, all of the people I interacted with were just lovely and provided wonderful recommendations. The food is great and they have some really unique dishes. I absolutely love the mushrooms with raw egg yolk - I was a bit nervous but was amazing. Highly recommend!!

..eh.. the place seems pretty decent but definitely not my style. $20+ for a can of fish and some radish.

We found Huertas when we were looking for a private dining area for a small celebration.TL;DR: Our experience was nothing short of wonderful. The food was spectacular, the staff was so helpful and our guests enjoyed the lunch thoroughly.Must haves: The Patatas Bravas, the Pulpo and the Saffron Fried Rice. Also, their delicious cocktails! The Food and Drinks:During our tasting we ordered an assortment of small and large plates. All the food was delicious and the half portions were generous - but the standouts for us were the patatas bravas (and we've tried this pretty much all over the city), the pulpo, the saffron rice with shrimp and bacon, the squash with goat cheese and the Cassis and Desist cocktail. The pulpo was especially well cooked - it was fresh, not over or undercooked and was paired with a wonderfully tangy spice.During our event the food was absolutely delicious. Even the simplest of dishes were elevated. The ensalada was very fresh and a great dish which cut through the more heavy starters. The squash with goat cheese was great. The goat cheese was creamy and the spice the squash came with was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms were delicious and well-spiced - not too garlicky and firm. The patatas bravas were as delicious as they were during our tasting - and we're generously spiced with a dollop of aioli on top. They truly melted in your mouth!Moving onto the bigger dishes - the chorizo was good, and it paired nicely with the lentils and carrots. The saffron rice was a huge hit. It was well cooked, well-seasoned, and we especially enjoyed the tiny bits of crunchy fried rice.We were a bit worried about ordering the steak, especially because we hadn't tasted it, but it turned out to be pretty good! The steak and the peppers went together extremely well - and it was cooked as medium-rare, which was ideal for an event, as it didn't get chewy as time passed. We took a drink package which allowed us to have alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, with wine and cocktails. The restaurant selected the wines to go with the food as we knew nothing about wines - our guests were happy with the selection. The cocktails we ordered were the Cold Brew martini, the Cassis and Desist (excellent), and the Persephone (refreshing). Our party didn't have big drinkers, but a number of our guests were happy to have second and third drinks.Service (Before and During the Event):We'd never booked a private room before, and Huertas' reasonable prices and prompt and accommodating responses from the minute we reached out, were key for it to make our shortlist. The restaurant let us order half portions, which allowed us to taste as many dishes as possible before selecting the ones we liked for our event.About a third of our guests had food intolerances and allergies, and the restaurant actively worked with us to figure out alternatives without charging us an outrageous amount. The staff was amazing and helpful throughout our event. The restaurant is closed during lunch, so the fact that they were able to accommodate our event during that time made the event feel extra private and special.During the event, the staff was patient and attentive. The food was plentiful, and our guests didn't have to wait for dishes to arrive. Our guests stayed for a bit over the event time. But I'm glad to say that we weren't pushed out, everyone was patient and friendly and let us wrap things up. They also packed up our food promptly.Overall would highly recommend Huertas, not just for a delicious dinner with friends, but also as a place where you can book a nice, intimate, fun event with friends and family!
Be the first to ReplyI chose this place because it was featured on an Eater
I chose this place because it was featured on an Eater article of good happy hour deals - but what I was really impressed with was the FOOD! We ordered a few different dishes as this was tapas style food. Each dish just as good if not better than the last! Flavor combinations that I'm surprised worked very well together. Service was top notch! Our servers name was Anna and she was wonderful, which underscored how amazing the experience was here.We got the croquette which was truly melt in your mouth experience, the happy hour bisque dog which was AMAZING for how simple it looks, patatas bravas which was seasoned and cooked to perfection, the shishito peppers which was the perfect combination of fresh and savory, the eggplant toast - the most perfect combination of ingredients in terms of taste and texture, the nassari - very different but fresh and dynamic flavor, kabocha squash - MY FAVORITE, it tasted like the month november, and the "gambas Al ajillo" shrimp was one of the best I've ever had! Only docking a star because they had a few great drinks when it came to single ingredients (the red vermouth tasted so good and cozy, white vermouth was very fresh and bright) but the happy hour G&T wasn't very good and the wine tasted very cheap. It was disappointing to not have a more extensive happy hour menu and not very many good ones since that's what we came for.Don't come for the drinks, except for just the red vermouth but come for the food for sure!

5/4 Of particular interest was a plate of sardines, anchovies, etc that could easily be be done at home. Their octopus was mushy.

As a Spaniard going into this restaurant I had high expectations and it went above and beyond, the saffron fried rice had the best of both worlds and perfectly encapsulates a Spanish rice while giving a bit of an Asian twist. Extensive wine list and overall an incredible experience. Will definitely return in the future. The service is impeccable and super friendly, our server Lola made our experience one of a kind. Made our anniversary one to remember

The food was excellent, especially the steak, croquettes, sardines and pulpo. We also enjoyed the pan con tomate and the mushrooms are a must order...get the egg yolk. Service was friendly and on point. The Rose was delicious and cold. Served perfectly!!!
Be the first to ReplyWe tried Huertas for restaurant week dinner.
We were seated in the back room, which is very nicely decorated. We started with the pan con tomate, I ordered mine with jamon (you pick between anchovies, jamon and manchego) and my partner ordered it as is. The waiter asked if they would prefer shishito peppers instead since they were not getting any of the 3 extras and we said yes. The pan con tomate was pretty good, a nice size platter with olives and pickled on the side. The peppers were really tasty and nicely salted.Next we had the patatas bravas and tortilla espanola. Both were great, but the tortilla was a bit oily and both were a bit salty. Again, a good size portion, especially for restaurant week. The entrees were the sausage and shrimp. The sausage was alright, but the dish did not really go together (it had corn and cherry tomatoes). The shrimp were good but extremely oily and again, both dishes were salty though both were decent sizes. Overall the quantity was good, but the food was just ok and too salty for our liking. Our waiter Hector though was fantastic and made it a nice experience. PSA the restaurant can get loud.

What a gem in the east village! The seasonal foie gras pintxo bite is to die for. GET IT. I also really love the basque dog, which pleasantly surprised me. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I find myself repeatedly ordering the chorizo, gambas, and one of the tinned fish options. Great for happy hour, a snack, or whole meal. I appreciate the drink menu makes me feel like I'm in Spain with the simple classics: gin tonics, tinto de verano, and amazing selection of vermouth (try both red and white on tap!)Not to be outdone, service has always been warm, friendly, and fun. It's a nice change of pace to not feel rushed out of a Manhattan restaurant and connect with the staff - so wonderful!
Be the first to ReplyThe service and ambience were good.
But I personally was not awed by the dishes. I spent 10 days in Bilbao and SAN Sebastián eating away Pintxos etc... I was disappointed. The sausage which did taste like Merquez was salty. The mussels served from Spain is canned - served with accouterments of aioli garlic, butter with paprika, slices of radish, parsley bleated and peppers. The little cripSpanish crackers shaped like miniature baguettes were fine. There was nothing in the dishes we ordered that told me I should be back. So sorry for this experience.I know another better place for Basque food here.

TLDR: solid tapas place with authentic small platesoverall, i thought this place was pretty solid with a limited but well-done menu. the highlights for me were: 1. octopus - SO tender and the flavor balance was on point 2. the foie gras - so decadent .... just wow ... the other things that were good1. patatas bravas - pretty standard at tapas places but i thought were a bit too salty for my taste2. saffron rice was good but nothing crazy special 3. croquetas we're good but also nothing special i thought the desserts were just okay. i'm not a fan of super sweet desserts but these were really not sweet at all. the churros felt like they were missing that nice coating of sugar and the basque cheesecake tasted a bit too much of olive oil for me

Good Spanish cooking in this east village tapas style restaurant. The Serrano ham was lean and thinly sliced, the croquetta Jarmon, nice, though one croquetta was cold in the center, the steelhead trout, very good, as was the chorizo and winter greens. Service is good with a decent Spanish wine selection. Atmosphere is nice too.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is awesome for groups.
They have a wide variety of set menus and drink packages making group outings much easier to plan. They are quick on their emails and very helpful. It's a fun spot with a good vibe.
Be the first to ReplyI have always had amazing dining experiences here.
Bar staff and waiters are friendly, making sure you are enjoying the food and service. The floor manager Coco also always goes above and beyond regarding service. It's always a pleasure to eat at Huertas when she is there. If you love Tapas and you're in the area, this place should be a no brainer for dinner. My favorites on the menu are the grilled mussels, jamón croquetas, and the hot dog! :)
Be the first to ReplyHuerta's happy hour is one of the best in the city.
My favorite items are foie gras, basque dog, and house gin and tonic. Their service is great as well.
Be the first to ReplyI love it here.
The foie grass is delicious! - the service is wonderful, and the place is low key relaxing and spacious. Try it!

I left Spain in 2008 and am always keeping an eye out for Basque experiences. This place is it! The cider is dry and just a hint of sour, and the pinxtos and tapas are just like the Basque Country and other areas of Spain. I come here every time I'm in NYC to cure the nostalgia.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Spanish cuisines I've had.
The cocktails are okay. We ordered the fried rice, chorizo, pimentos, canned cod appetizer (tasted really good, though it doesn't look as good as it tasted). I'd say my favourite was the fried rice and the chorizo. We sat outside. They set up an outdoor dining space with covered roof and plants surrounding the space. It quite a nice set up. Service was good. At the end of the meal it started to get dark. And thank goodness this happened at the end of our meal. There was a pretty big rat that popped out behind me on the plants and was literally a foot from my head. I wouldn't say this is unique to Huertas. It's a NYC phenomenon. I jumped out of my chair and we got the bill and went on our way. Guess the rats are back hunting for food now that restos have fully reopened.

We really only came here to escape the awfulness of the Headless Widow, but I'm glad we stumbled in here on a cold, rainy night. The Roasted Mushrooms were divine, and our pitcher of Tinto De Verano (Huertas red vermouth and soda) was a unique flavor bomb I won't soon forget.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great spot for tapas and cool cocktails.
The atmosphere is lively and surrounded by other fun restaurants and bars. The tapas meal options were interesting and different, yet very tasty. My favorite option was the goat cheese stuffed peppers on toast. I recommend coming here for apps/small dishes (tapas) and cocktails.
