A Hearty Southern Lunch!
I am a true southerner from South Carolina, where southern food is divine, therefore I'm a little critical. We had 13 in our group for a weekday lunch. It was not crowded at all around 12:30. The positive is that service was wonderful, in that the waitstaff was quite efficient, and served with a smile. The manager even came around to check in with everyone, and gave our group a sweet potato pie gratis to share, which was quite nice of him. The food came out without a long wait, and the portion served was quite hearty. Only thing the food was just average, not bad, but not that great either. The fried whiting tasted as if it was cooked maybe an hour or two ahead of time and sat for awhile under a headlamp to keep warm, not tasted as if just fried. It was fresh but rather limp, bland, not seasoned. Had to add quite a bit of hot sauce to make it palatable. Collard greens were quite greasy and much too salty. The mac and cheese is tasty, however, the pasta was cooked too much before baking with the cheese, so it is a little soggy. The black eyed peas were delicious. Coleslaw is tasty, however, much too sweet, like dessert. Cornbread muffins were nice and hot, served with loads of cinnamon honey butter, tasted like typical Jiffy cornbread, and tasty if you like that type of sweet cornbread. Sweet potato pie was mediocre, not bad, however, could use a better homemade recipe, tasted like grocery store pie in the freezer section. I would try dining again, being I like to support establishments that are minority owned. Perhaps having some other options, to see if the food improves based on what is ordered. Make sure to get your parking ticket stamped for free 2 hours.

Lovely restaurant When visiting the US a few summers ago with scouts we were staying at the university nearby We decided to come here for our dinner on the first night and the whole staff was very welcoming and interested in our experience All the food was very tasty and the cornbread muffins with butter and syrup were especially nice
Be the first to ReplyDecent service Limited selections
I have been to Carolina Kitchen once before and I had excellent service and food. But this visit was just bad service and for some unexplained reason limited selections of drinks and food items. The first problem came when I ordered a Manhattan and after 10 minutes the waiter said they didn't have the ingredients for a Manhattan. Now this is a very basic cocktail. So I ordered a Vodka and Tonic.... but that drink took 15 before I received it. And No the restaurant was not anywhere near full. We placed our order and the food came out pretty quickly.. No problem there. When the time came for dessert... we asked for the dessert menu. When the waiter returned he read from his note pad only about 4 out of say a possible 12 items for dessert with no explanation as to the shortages. None of the four items appealed to any of us. So we just asked for some coffee. Then..... wait for it... we were told no coffee.... not given any explanations just no coffee. Clearly not their best night... Definitely not going back anytime soon, if ever.

The staff were so attentive, it would be difficult to find anything to complain about. My salmon entree was recommended and it lived up to its description as supplied by our waitress. A very pleasant evening had by all.

I ate at the restaurant at Brandywine crossing in Brandywine MD. My first and last visit to this restaurant. Very expensive and the food was terrible.

I rarely leave a three star review, but had to for my visit. We went in and picked up take out to have at an outside table while in the area for work. My one compliment is that I really enjoyed the collard greens, they were terrific. The macaroni and cheese was acceptable, the chicken however, was not. It was terribly dry and the crust lacked seasoning. Sorry, this was a real miss for me.

Heard this was a good place to get real soul food. Well lets say I am still trying to find a good one around DMV. I drove over an hour to get here. Bunch of things on the board they didn't have. Why is it on the board and our website. Service was blah. Food was average at best.

The food was literally just alright. The food didn't have any taste to it and they didn't give much.

Be the first to ReplyFirst time visit for solo lunch
First time visit. Parking garage allows 2 free hours of parking. A plus! Restaurant has a buffet line for to-go orders and separate dining room for in-house dining. There was no wait. I ordered a seafood platter. It was very tasty and was enough food for two persons. Two kinds of fried fish, oysters, Shrimp and French fries with 3 kinds of sauce. My server was Kiana who took great care of me.

Move in day at UMD and we decided to try this spot out for lunch. The service, the flavors, the cost, I canโt say anything but great things about this place. We tried about 5 different menu items and 5 different sides. All top notch. The collards were the best Iโve ever had and the Jamaican jerk chicken fell off the bone! Of course they are known for those melt in your mouth buttery corn muffins. Oh my...I couldโve eaten a dozen of those by myself. Just a great overall experience!
