This upper class restaurant is located in the Meatpacking area, and is an interesting combination of LEXUS car branding and up market dining.
You enter from the streets and go up some stairs to the sleek bar, which leads to a modern, shiny dining room.
There is a bar with seating which was where we sat- a fabulous place to observe food being made and dishes being plated.
The night we were there a highly dedicated Asian chef with neat hair braids who was pleasantly obsessed with attention to detail and a delight to watch.
The crowd is well heeled and fabulously dressed.
Food is marketed as Jewish- we were intrigued.
The chef in residence is visiting from his restaurant Mishiguene (which means crazy in Yiddish) in Buenos Aires, known as the best Jewish restaurant in Argentina.
Having been there, I was looking for meat cuts and fresh vegetarian dishes. They didn’t exist.
The menu for this pop up was complex -really difficult o ascertain what we were actually ordering, and therefore felt hit and miss.
The cocktail list however is impressive with creative drinks to suit any pallette, and the wine list is excellent.
Lots of Argentinian reds which is to be expected.
A complimentary bread basket had white, warm bread (sorry, but who eats white bread any more in high end restaurants?)And two seeded slices - much better.
The accompanying onion spread was so rich it was almost inedible, and almost tasteless. Some smoked, salted or even plain butter would have been better for me.
The gel filter fish was three generous sizes of fish roll with trout roe and vegetables. Artistically presented-I lone fish but it was too rich -I think it was the trout roe. I had one bite.
The Frois Gras was cooked in a rich sauce and tasty but super heavy. Again just so rich.
The kibbeh was the best dish we had, and consisted of beef and bulgare tartare, labneh, tomato coulis and spicy crackers.
A glance at the huge short rib leaving the kitchen and my appetite for any more rich, over the top dishes was gone.
Instead we ordered the beetroot dessert which was outstanding.
So all in all, an exceptional dining room. Staff who on the whole were attentive with one exception.
Excellent drinks but a menu that wasn’t overly palletable, at least for us.
