Stall 1-21 at Amoy Food center.
I read that they only make 500 per day, but they still had plenty around 1pm on a Friday. They are 1.60 each, and we had them freshly fried. They come in 3 flavors. - Black pepper chicken: very peppery and spicy but otherwise unremarkable flavor - Curry potato puff: definitely the star The exterior is flaky. Freshly fried, it keeps it's heat for quite a while. It's definitely not light / healthy and is quite filling. The curry potato one is worth a try!

Flaky curry puff? Very desirable!I'm a huge fan of anything crispy and deep fried. I love that these curry puffs are absolutely PERFECT in every way. The ratio of filling, the richness of the sauce, to the temperature of the puff plus the price?! S$1.60 (!) I was like "WHAT?!"If you come to Amoy food center on weekday lunch, you know you'd have to snake through the lines of about 30 white shirts to get to where you need to go. Thankfully, J2 curry puff only had two people in line ahead of me. I noticed the husband and wife team methodically folding, filling and lining up these babies on the metal tray ready to go into the fryer. You can be assured that these are as fresh as they can get especially since they constantly sell these things by the minute. I couldn't find a table to sit down, so I took my puff to go and ate it while walking. With each bite, crumbs fell on my shirt,on my shorts and the sidewalk. I left a trail of J2 puffs on the way home. Now you know where I live.

My first curry puff in Singapore and I enjoyed the chicken and potato puff so immensely that I craved the buttery, tender crust during every subsequent meal. I spent the rest of the days on my trip looking for a suitable substitute, but no luck. J2's black pepper chicken was quite flavorful but a little too saucy for my taste (the hubs loved it though). The winner here is the dough itself. I can't wait to travel across the world again to have another!
Be the first to Reply$1.60 is an absurdly cheap price for one of the best things
$1.60 is an absurdly cheap price for one of the best things I've eaten in Singapore. The Crispy Black Pepper Chicken puffs are so fluffy and delicious. A perfect crispy outside texture - which flakes enough, but not too much - mixed with succulent chicken in a delicious black pepper sauce. The generic chicken potato curry puff was nice and - for $1.40 - great value. But the Black Pepper is the star. They could have charged triple and it would still have been fair.
