Jamavar London Reviews from The Last Year
Location and decor excellent. Food disappointing.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The tables are a little too close together for my liking and the music a little loud if you’re under a speaker. The staff are excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable. The food though is where it goes wrong. We shared a starter of chicken croquettes. They were mushy on the inside and didn’t taste of much really. I ordered the butter chicken curry and my companion the prawn curry. The chicken was hard as if it had been overcooked in advance of being added to the sauce. The prawns were large and very nice. Both sauces tasted exactly the same. The saffron rice was fine. We didn’t have dessert. We had one cocktail and 2 glasses of wine. £193 including 15% service charge. It says discretionary but I have yet to argue that one.
Worst Customer service
Booked a reservation here on my first day in London and was not able to get in due to the dress code the host was not accommodating and it put us off from every returning.. went down the street to Dishoom.. a reservation was made in error the following day by my daughter so I immediately called the restaurant to cancel it and the lady on the phone was rude and did not cancel our reservation only for us to be charged over 100 for a cancellation fee pure robbery the worst customer service I have no idea how this restaurant earned a Michelin star Jamavar more like Janvar.. truly disappointing
2/5 Food 1/5 Service 5/5 Interior 5/5 Bathroom I recently
2/5 Food 1/5 Service 5/5 Interior 5/5 Bathroom I recently came here for dinner and was very disappointed. To me, the most important aspect of any restaurant, Michelin star on not, is the food. The food here was palatable, edible, but not one dish stood out and the flavors were nothing special. The service was abysmal. Highlights included: - Being offered only the a la carte menu and having to request the tasting menu - Getting the wine pairing and then each wine being put on the table with descriptors like, "this is a sparkling wine." There was a som on the premises, but he did not come to our table - Sticky stems on the cocktail glasses - Plates sitting untouched after a course for 10 minutes, and then a server coming to the table and saying, "ya done?" before taking the plates I'm unsure if this was just an off night for this restaurant, but I wouldn't return, and I would advise people against coming here. The experience was a waste of time and money.
Amazing lunch- highly recommend
Everything from the service, cocktails and food was excellent!! I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant whilst in London!
Profit over customer service
We sent the below to the restaurant and (approx 3 weeks later) the restaurant did not respond at all. See below for what was sent which we think helps summarise our disappointing experience. FAO Jamavar Owner/Manager We dined at your restaurant yesterday evening. This is the third time we have visited your restaurant. We were very disappointed with our experience and we wanted to make sure we had communicated why: * We were seated at Table 64 in the corner of the basement next to the kitchen and there are far too many tables in that little area * Other visitors also remarked on the tight space and felt uncomfortable - one couple asked and were able to be moved upstairs * Our legs were not free to move around and we felt boxed in - it really is an unacceptable table arrangement you have in that corner * The music speaker above was also very loud and this made it difficult to have a conversation, especially with so many people in a small space * Towards the end of our main course the waiter made it clear that we wanted us to finish up and vacate the table as the next guests were waiting already. He asked us this at approximately 8pm. When he asked us to leave there was still food on the table and we were eating it. Our reservation was at 645pm and the table was promised to us for 2 hours so we found this wholly unacceptable. We felt rushed and very negative and disappointed, and frankly could not believe in such a restaurant a waiter could possibly say this to customers. The waiter saw this and apologised profusely but that cannot change the fact that the restaurant wanted us out. You can see from our payment receipt that we did indeed vacate by 845pm * The restaurant therefore gave a very strong impression that it was entirely motivated by profit over the customer experience - this is not what you would expect of a quality establishment especially that one might pick for special occasions * We went to the restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it left us feeling very disappointed as a restaurant of your current repute would be expected to deliver more than good food and a very enjoyable and personalized experience. We look forward to your response.
One of the best Indian meals of my life.
The Dehli butter chicken was amazing, the Saag Paneer was transcendent and alive with fresh spinach flavor, and the tandoori prawns were beyond fresh, with a perfect seasoning and just a kiss of char from the Tandoor. I would not order the lobster or the kid mains again, but that's just my taste. I will absolutely return.
Not Michelin star quality
I booked for a special occasion (fiancés birthday) and it was completely mediocre. From the moment we arrived we were shuffled downstairs to a table by the bar on the pathway to the loo. When I asked for an alternative they offered me the table by the door to the kitchen. Eventually we were moved upstairs (another table right by the service bar!) but sadly the disappointment didn’t stop there. There was only one stand out dish, the octopus starter, and the rest were no better than our local curry house. At no point did they even acknowledge that it was an occasion. We eat regularly at Michelin starred establishments and this certainly does not live up to the star. When I booked, the online menu was very different and the hype made it a place we wanted to try. But please stay well away; not worth it at all. (PS. Several booths and better tables remained empty for the duration of our meal so I it was hard to swallow the excuses for making us feel unwelcome on our arrival)
Beware!
My experience at this establishment left a sour taste, and it wasn't just the food. I booked a table online for Saturday lunch on Friday evening. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I needed to cancel within an hour, but was informed that a £100 cancellation fee (£50 per person) would be charged, citing their 48-hour policy. While I understand restaurants need to protect themselves from last-minute cancellations, enforcing such a fee within the same day of booking seems excessive and opportunistic! This incident reflects poorly on the management's priorities and customer service. Potential diners, be warned: if you have any doubts about your reservation, think twice before booking here. You might find yourself unexpectedly out of pocket.
Always delicious and dependable dishes. Service is also very good.
Linu was our waitress. She was caring and effective. She described the dishes perfectly so that we could make good selections. Deepak Dubey the manager gave us an amuse bouche. It was Jamavar Dal. 24 hour slow-cooked black lentils. I usually don’t like lentils, but this was a great dish. My wife had the Jeera Aloo, consisting of baby potatoes, roasted cumin, chillies, tomatoes and fresh coriander. It truly was delicious. I ordered the Ghar ki Bindi, stir-fried okra, onions, tomato and cumin. It was just the way that I love okra. We shared the Old Delhi Butter chicken. Suffolk corn-fed, char-grilled pulled chicken, fresh tomatoes &fenugreek. It was scrumptious. I added the Tellicherry pepper& garlic soft shell crab. It had plum chutney, garlic chips( would have been better without the garlic chips)& homemade garlic pickle. The dish was still really good. We shared the Dumplings Tarkari Biryani, consisting of seasonal vegetables, basmati rice, crispy onions, fresh mint and raita. It was covered in a pastry dome. Turned out to be a very tasty dish. Linu also brought a taste of three different wines served by the glass. We chose two, one NZ sauvignon blanc and one Spanish Tempranillo. Both very good choices. The environment is beautiful and inviting. We love to eat here each time that we come to London.
We were travelling to London from NYC and got food
We were travelling to London from NYC and got food poisoning. We called them to cancel our reservation and asked to waive the fee as a courtesy since we were there only for 3-4 days so there was no way for us to reschedule, the lady on the phone said she needs to confirm with the manager but as its health related they should be able to do a courtesy. They charged us anyway and when we disputed with our card, they counter disputed claiming their policy. This is the worst greediest experience I've seen at any restaurant. They are sending me emails, claiming their money with no empathy or understanding of a health situation. We live in NYC and have been to many Michelin star restaurants and never experienced this in London or NYC or anywhere. I have made a note to never go here again, London offers so many excellent Indian restaurants, stay away from this one.
Wow experience
We visited this restaurant for Lunch. It is a fine dining Indian retaurant in London. The ambiance is good. The food was excellent and the presentation was even better. I would highly recommend this place.
Not the Michelin experience we signed up for
We came for dinner with some friends on Saturday night. Despite booking a few months ago, we were seated downstairs by the stairs (which was dark and and dingy and we had a very small table for the four of us). At arrival, our coats were not collected (nor were we asked at any time whether our coats could be placed in the cloak room so we sat on them). Food was mediocre at best and definitely not Michelin star for service or food. Really really disappointing experience and would definitely not be returning anytime soon. We were very much looking forward to it but gosh, what an utter disappointment!
Food 4.
5/5.0 Service 3.5/5.0 Value 3.5/5.0 Decor 3.5/5.0 Overall 4.0/5.0 Great spot just off Berkeley Square. A bit pricey but food was excellent. Would definitely come back.
Horrible customer service
Unfortunately Jamavar did not live up to the standards whatsoever after attempting to amend my booking due to an emergency. I was spoken to very rudely on the phone by the so-called manager who informed me that I was not able to amend so close to the booking, although that is not the issue. The issue was her rude tone and terrible and unwelcoming attitude while explaining it. After telling her that her tone was rude, she disregarded that and continued to speak in the same manner. I was once a loyal customer to Jamavar, but after this disappointing experience I would choose a restaurant where the staff are kinder and value customer service.
Dangerously delicious!!
Great Saturday lunch! We went for 4-courses and every course was dangerously delicious! I consumed more food than I needed… butter chicken being my favourite! The warm gulab jamun was just the perfect finish!
7 years since my first visit and still excellent!
What a lovely place to lunch. Superb service and atmosphere with amazing food - my dining partner and I were very very pleased with the while thing. Best butter chicken I have ever eaten and the potatoes were off the charts too! Highly highly recommended.
One of my favourite restaurants in London- & the best & most gracious service
I came here solo to try the set game menu which formally expired at the end of January. It was a week before the formal end date but it rapidly became apparent that - on that day at least - the chef simply didn’t have enough of the ingredients to make it worthwhile. I explained that I’d come especially for the set game menu - and mused that perhaps I should leave. The waiter look like he was about to cry. One of the managers came over to persuade me to have the regular set menu. He was so charming that I agreed - and took the wine flight as well. The food was as delicious as ever. When I asked for the bill at the end, the waiter explained that the 2 managers (1 English & 1 Indian) had agreed that I should not be charged for the six course set menu, circa £100 !! I paid for the wine flight so the restaurant washed its face. Rarely have I encountered such a stylish and generous gesture - thank you- I just wish I knew the two managers’ names ! I am now a loyal customer for life.
Disappointing
As part of a surprise birthday trip to London my partner booked this restaurant for one of our evening meals. As it holds a Michelin star, we were expecting something special. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We started off sharing two dishes from the small plates menu; the scallops were very nice and the sauce didn’t mask the scallops’ delicate flavour. The lobster dish was unexceptional, with the lobster flavour completely overwhelmed by the sauce. For mains, we ordered the Dum Nalli Biryani, which was basically pieces of lamb, lots of rice, and a boiled egg, all hidden under a pastry crust which was theatrically removed by the waiter. It was served with a raita. There were supposed to be crispy onions included in the main dish but I don’t remember seeing any vegetables at all. The flavour was rather bland. The other main was butter chicken – chicken pieces swimming in a pleasant sauce, but again, nothing outstanding. Based on these mediocre tasting dishes, we decided not to bother with dessert. We'd had expectations of exciting, spice filled dishes but ended up feeling disappointed. We’ve enjoyed better meals at our local curry restaurant for a fraction of the price.
Great value for money!
I went for the tasting menu and it was so overwhelming. Each course was a treat and the the portions were so generous. I couldn't finish my main course and they were even kind enough to pack the left over food for me. Overall it was money spend well.
Great value for money
Had a fabulous lunch with my friends. The food was really good and of generous quantity. The ambience and service were great too.
A night to remember
Together with five other business friends, we took part in a congress in London. As a "London" connoisseur, I was responsible for the supporting programme. As the group consisted of vegetarians and carnivores, I suggested Indian food in a sophisticated setting for the first evening. All the participants raved about the food and drinks and everyone took a business card for their next visit with their partner. The evening was a complete success and the fellow travellers are still raving about it. In 2024, the travelling group will use the congress as an alibi and focus solely on the gastronomic experience. This restaurant has already been finalised as a destination.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
