Beware of their bait and switch
We came here years ago and had a terrible experience and were given a gift certificate for our disappointing experience. After many years we came back tonight and were disappointed yet again when at the end of the meal the waiter came back and said they can't honor our gift certificate because that person no longer worked there and they said that they didn't have a record. They confirm that that person did indeed work there in the past and the chef and restaurant owner were still the same. The food was underwhelming and the manager and chef were insulting and I would never go back there again and warn everyone else to stay away.

My daughter and her boyfriend took my wife and I to Jar for our 50th wedding anniversary dinner. From the moment we arrived we were treated very well.
So for appetizers we ordered a few items. Castelfranco salad which is delicious. Made with Arugula, machego ( a sweet cheese)dates, marcona almonds and sherry vinaigrette. The iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing. Purple yams with creme fraiche and chives. Single malt scotch, and spicy jalapeno margaritas for our drinks
For entrees the 10oz filet, pork chop and pan roasted salmon. I recommend all three. The meats were juicy and delicious. The salmon was not dry. Every item had generous portions.
Red wine all around.
For dessert, butterscotch pudding, peach crisp with vanilla ice cream, my favorite.
An amazing meal. We all sampled each others meals
The service was excellent. The waiter and busboys couldn't have been nicer.
An unforgettable dinner. I look forward to my next visit which I hope is soon.
Indoor dining just opened
Jar consistently has the best food we've ever had in Los Angeles and I would say Jar is one of our top 5 favorite restaurants (even higher than Spago).
We went there last Saturday after they had opened for indoor dining. The tables still had to be 8' apart and Jar is not a huge restaurant, so there weren't that many tables indoors. This is probably why they have a 90 minute limit - which was still plenty of time for a leisurely dinner. They have a nice outdoor dining area that was very popular. We ordered the Roast beef and the Wild salmon. Both were outstanding! The roast beef was so tender and the flavor rich and beefy. The roasted carrots were so caramelized & sweet. The horseradish sauce was amazing...zesty but creamy. The wild salmon, though simple, was the best we've ever tasted...cooked perfectly. We also got the Duck fried rice and enjoyed it. Portions seem a little smaller than previous, but understandable, following on the heels of a Pandemic that almost drove most restaurants out of business. Chef, Suzanne Tracht, stopped by all the tables to talk to everyone, which was such a nice touch. We are just so greatful that our favorite fine dining restaurant survived 2020. We have to show our special LA restaurants a lot of love and dine there as often as possible.
Run away from this place as
Run away from this place as much as you can. They are unfair and donโt say you need to order your meal, eat and run away in 90 minutes. We just cancelled our reservation because we can eat somewhere else abs have a nice meal without having to rush abs finish. Otherwise if your idea of happiness and relaxation is to pay top dollar to be rushed to finish your meal go. Personally I would prefer Burger King or Mc Donaldโs.

The cocktails are terrific. Try the gin gimlet served by two very helpful and friendly bartenders. We shared the pear salad that was just enough for two and the duck fried rice is a real treat. Not greasy at all and the best this side of Shanghai and you don't have to brave the flu. We also really like the lemon grass chicken which has a bit of heat and the chicken is moist and tender. The flank steak was cooked perfectly and spread out on the plate looked like it was right out of a magazine. The banana cream pie was a nice way to end the meal and was not conventional in anyway. Just creamy and delicious. After all these years Jar continues to deliver top notch wonderful food and ambiance.

The restaurant is very elegant and yet cool. Perfect for a business dinner to impress clients. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. It's not inexpensive but it's not crazy (the bill for the 5 of us came to $435 before tip with a $90 bottle of wine and $75 worth of drinks). We enjoyed the scallops, halibut, onlion rings, crab deviled eggs, brussel sprouts, ipswich clams and the soft shell crab appetizers. I particularly loved the butterscotch pudding for dessert. I would definitely go back and highly recommend.

If you don't know about this place you may walk straight past it as from the outside it does not have all the regular razzmatazz of most restaurants in the Beverly area. Once you're inside that is all but forgotten. We had a fabulous waiter who was very fast and cheerful throughout the long evening. We shared a bunch of starters and I had the skirt steak as a main. That steak was just fantastic! If you are into good wine this is the place for you. A wide variety from both the old and the new world.

Our friends came in here several months ago, and raved about the salmon, burger and mac and cheese. We decided to try it before a show at the Palladium, and weren't disappointed. Very nice atmosphere, modern yet cozy, attentive wait staff. All of the dishes were sublime - calamari salad, scallops, perfectly cooked salmon, and fries! We did not have time for dessert, but heard their special was berry pie, which looked amazing. A great place for an intimate family dinner or date night - we will return!
Be the first to ReplyNice dinner but conversation difficult
Three of us decided to try Jar for a Sunday evening dinner. We had a reservation, were seated promptly and found the service attentive. Our meals (chicken, fish & beef) were nicely prepared and tasty. Unfortunately, the decor of the dining room is such that โquietโ cannot be used to describe the experience, and conversation was difficult due the immense amount of background conversations.
We might return, but will try to find an off night when the experience might be better.
