Javelina Cantina Sedona Reviews from The Last Year
Beat drinks-homemade mixers!
The margaritas were awesome and so was the homemade Micheladas. They make their own bloody mary and margarita mix. The best I’ve ever had! The meal was excellent! Service was too notch with some local suggestions for where to watch the sunset, eat and shop!
Easily the best!
The food was fabulous!! I had the rotisserie chicken and goat cheese enchiladas and couldn’t stop eating them. The corn sauce was delicious. My husband is a carnitas snob and loved his meal. The margaritas were as big as my face and delicious. We’ll be back!!
Food and service were both excellent, plus our furry friend

I was in Sedona on a family vacation and we were looking for dinner spot and Javelina came highly recommended, didn't require reservations + was open a bit later than other Sedona restaurants. When we arrived, we had about a 20 minute wait but it went by super quick. We loved how big the restaurant was and how much javelina-themed decor there was everywhere! Our server was super nice and attentive as well. We ordered a couple drinks including a local beer, a blood orange margarita, and a jalapeno hot margarita. I loved the cute drinkware and my blood orange margarita was absolutely delicious!! Their chips and salsa were super fresh as well too. For my main, I got the Baja Shrimp tacos which came with refried beans and rice. My tacos were so delicious and flavorful and I LOVED the creme fraiche they came with. The rice and beans were also delicious and great sides. Overall, really great experience and would recommend if you're looking for a good dinner spot in Sedona!

Taco and tostada shells were mushy and fell apart as a result. Quesadilla sat in a pool of grease. Cheese dip was good. Everyone left with a stomach ache. Disappointing for all the hype.

Great place for happy hour the Manger was exceptionally accommodating. Could see her up and down the restaurant helping her staff and customers l. 5 stars just for her service and hustle

The hostess/manager in the front was the rudest restaurant worker I've ever dealt with in my life! she yelled at me when I asked to be seated at one of the empty tables at the bar and completely gaslit me when I told her to tone it down. I think she was completely racist and refused to serve us because my friend was African and I was Hispanic and were the only people of color in the place. First time ever experiencing such bias in a restaurant and to see an employee treat staff members and customers so badly and get away with it in this day and age was appalling! the owner needs to replace her! she knew she was wrong because she sent us out of the restaurant with a free bag of food which wasn't half bad. unfortunately the hostess should be better trained as how to treat people because they are the first impression one gets of the place and this is the impression I got! and thanks to the young good looking boy who was also at the front being pushed around by this woman who did try to serve us and treated us very graciously and kindly!

I'm stunned that with so many great Mexican and southwestern grilles in Sedona, that this restaurant has received as many good ratings as it has. The food is bland and lacking any creativity. It's not horrible, the place appears clean and the services were acceptable (not the bartender or the hostess - which both seemed perturbed that people were asking them for things). Just not a place I would ever go back to.
Not good Mexican food a tourist trap.
The food was tasteless other than the Mexican corn. My husband asked for red sauce on his enchiladas and they took the plate and covered the greening red sauce. The women’s bathroom was atrocious. Also they added gratuity for two adults and three kids. Slimes.

This is a nice place for groups! The food was delicious with large portions. We shared the steak enchiladas with and extra side of rice and beans between the two of us. Even got to see some javelinas on the walk back to our car!

Great service and great food! It's clearly a popular place as there was an hour wait for a table, so be sure to make a reservation. It's worth it! I ordered the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and they were delicious.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Very busy spot in the heart of Sedona! Parking is tough but don't let that deter you!! There were 8 of us and service was great! The food is amazing! Everyone love what they ordered! I had the best Chicken Mole' Enchiladas I've ever had!! Both my husband and I ordered them and devoured every bite!! (Side note-let your customers know they put sesame seeds on top! Very strange? Can't have them) Our House margaritas were amazing as well! Service was great! The only bummer was one dish was forgotten my sister was waiting patiently and I think we were halfway through the meal when it finally came out. The server was so apologetic and didn't even charge her for it! Thank you for that! Definitely look forward to coming back!
Very busy large establishment that was able to accommodate
Very busy large establishment that was able to accommodate our large group of 11. Menu had the usual as well as some interesting takes on Mexican food. I think we were too engrossed in our conversations to comment on the food, but that's a good thing. Service was good except for a moderate sized water spill that was never taken care of, and one order that was not taken with the others. My blackened catfish part of the dish was tasty, but I'm not sure the relleno part worked well. Overall, it was a good experience, though, especially the tasty margaritas. Be prepared for the Sedona prices, but that's just the norm.

Happened upon this place when talking to a Sedona local who recommended it for excellent Mexican food. Sat at bar instead of table in order to watch sporting event. Great bar service, very good starters apps! We enjoyed the very tasty chicken quesadillas. We were not fans of the salsa as it tasted a bit like Italian sauce due to the use of oregano in it. Wasn't bad but just didn't work for us with the chips or on the quesadillas. Overall ambiance was great - not too loud and was very bright (mid-day). Definitely a place we will come back to when we stop through Sedona again! We will definitely have a regular meal next time and not just the appetizer. Will update this review when we do.
Excellent food and service!
We were visiting with our family of 6 and had a wonderful experience. Everyone loved their food, especially the pork carnitas and Carne Asada tacos. Our server, Tyler was so amazing, extremely friendly and tended to every need. He truly made our experience.! We would definitely come back if in the area again!
Great food and lots of vegetarian and vegan options.
I wanted to try the vegan nachos, but I couldn't get anybody to join me. We had great service and amazing food. Portions big enough to share or take home. The prickly pear margarita packs a punch! Thanks Javelina!!

Dinner in Sedona
My wife and I had dinner here while in Sedona. Awesome Mexican food. It was a half hour wait on a Tuesday night, so we sat at the bar for dinner. They were very busy. Service was very good and food even better I think. We would definitely go back.
It was a very clean and fun place.
The ambience was and music choices were good. The salsa was very fresh and complimentary. Service was very quick! Food was good as well.
On a first time trip to Sedona we ate at Javelina Cantina
On a first time trip to Sedona we ate at Javelina Cantina for an early dinner. Seated as requested on patio and were served our drafts quickly along with chips and salsa that were incredible. When the table next us had their food brought out it smelled incredible and we were optimistic about our choices. We were not looking for a large meal and decided on sharing beef and cheese quesadillas and chicken strips. Both arrived at same time as we wanted. The amount of strips was generous but we did notice some, about 1/5, of the chicken strips were more on the too done side. The server was fantastic!! He didn't wait for us to request different ones (who enjoys doing that???), no questions asked and a whole new batch was brought out quickly. They are smaller size cuts, breaded lightly in lightly seasoned coating. Best I have had, seriously. The quesadillas were simple but very well cooked and delicious with the salsa verde and shredded lettuce and diced tomato. So much for not wanting a large meal, left with a to-go box with over half of each item for a "snack". Would gladly go back again. All the servers were extremely busy but very attentive to every table. Wish more places were like them.
The Del Mar salad is worth coming back for!
This was our first visit to Javelina this year, but we went twice when we were in Sedona last time. I had the same dish I had last time, the Del Mar salad with scallops. The sear on the scallops was perfect and the salad was delicious, just as I remembered. I might have to come back and try it with the shrimp before we go home! I had a nut brown to go with my salad--not my usual choice, but it was good. My husband had the chicken mole enchiladas and he said they were very good.

This restaurant is exceptional! The salsa is chunky, not puréed. The guacamole is fresh and perfectly seasoned. They have outdoor seating with stunning views of Sedona. Great margaritas and a larger fishbowl size. The portions were generous. For the two tamale platter they will let you choose different sauces and fillings in one platter, loved the flexibility to have choices and sample all. Don't pick red or green sauce, have both! And, they have a DOGGY MENU!! Can't love this menu option enough. Get your best friend salmon, a burger or chicken. We all loved our food. Walk out the door and go up the stairs for an amazing view, great art and wall murals with angel wings. Epic lunch experience away from crowd.

Food was good, however there were several shortcomings with the service which tarnished our experience for our first visit to Javelina Cantina. First, we received a text notification that our table was ready, yet when we checked in at the front desk a few minutes later our table had been given to someone else and we had to wait 10 more minutes to finally be seated at a table. We ordered margaritas, and the server brought us drinks different to what we ordered. Next, we ordered fajitas and our food server (Alexito) neglected to bring us the flour tortillas that were part of the meal. Although he apologized once we brought this to his attention as we were nearly finished with the meal, he made no attempt to make things right for this error. Giving two stars because despite the poor service, our food (fajitas without the tortillas) and drinks were enjoyable.
Wow!!! Cannot say enough good things about the service.
.. They understood my food allergies and worked with me. We ordered a flight of margaritas and a Bloody Mary delicious! The Del Mar salad they subbed goat cheese for me it was a hearty salad. Chips and salsas with Guac were so good. Give this place a try it won't disappoint!!!
Terrible sevice
We came here based on a recommendation. The food was excellent but the service was abrupt and rude. We were scolded for going to an open table at the bar and then we had to go get the hostess to tell her that no one had come to our table. We will not go bsck,
Party of 18
After calling over 8 resturants i was losing hope to eat as a large family, I thought I would try one more and by suprise Stephine the host answered and accepted us in 10 minutes!!! Our large family of 18 people were welcomed and seated by Stephine ( the manager)who reasured us we could all sit together at the same time made the whole night a wonderful experience. Our Server Bre was absoultey amazing from remembering the order to interacting with the children. Food couldnt have had any more Flavor everything we ate was so delicous! Special thanks to the Bartenders Liz and John for making my moms first ever margarita in 75 years! The memories we were able to create with just Stephine saying Yes is something we will never forget. If you are in the area THIS IS A MUST TRY!!
Disappointed
I was very disappointed. Their award-winning margarita was watery and the food was basically the kind of oily stuff I can get back in New England. But I love the javelina on the sign and maybe it was off because we were there off season.
Not the best Mexican Food
I was disposed in the food for the price. The Sala was not very good. The entries we ordered also lacked good taste. Service was okay but not friendly. Would not go back
Try A Different Restaurant!
We have been coming to this restaurant for 20 years and had THE WORST experience yesterday. We had just inked the bill and the manager came over and said “I don’t mean to be rude but we need you to leave. We have another party waiting.” Really??? We weren’t even offered coffee or dessert. Not going back. Ever. That is just rude service.
Horrible Service, mediocre food.
Let me start by saying we've been regular customers of Javalina Cantina for over 15 years. I realize it's under new ownership but apparently things have gone way down hill. I will NOT return here again. We came here at 4pm on a Sunday evening. We had called several days ahead to reserve a window view seat. We were brought to a corner location and asked to be move elsewhere. It was not crowded. The hostess was clearly annoyed with our request but allowed us to move to a different seat. Our server was the rudest person I've ever met in the service industry. I'm not sure what, if anything, we did to piss her off, but she was short with us the entire time. Spilled a soda all over the table, my purse and on me and later came back to give me napkins and a "sorry." My husband was drinking water and asked twice for a refill before finally getting some more water. The food was okay. My husband had a quesadilla that was overfull with basically fajita meat/veggies in two tortillas. It was a giant mess with greasy sauce everywhere. He didn't eat it. The server didn't bother to ask if anything was okay. We received the bill and presented her with an coupon for 20% off here, that stated "it expires when you do." They said they no longer honor those. Disappointing but it is what it is. There is also no longer a local discount. They have added on a credit card fee of 3% to the total bill as well. No one bothered to mention this fee and I didn't see it until I reviewed everything later. For 4 people, (we also split one meal) and one alcoholic beverage, it was over $100! Definitely not worth what we paid for it. I do my best to leave great reviews for places but this was above and beyond miserable. I felt like a second class citizen here and not like I was at a nice restaurant. Again, we will not be back. I do NOT recommend it.
Okay food/terrible service
We were in Sedona for our 30th anniversary and the folks at our hotel recommended Javelina Cantina for Good Mexican food. We had a reservation but when we arrived the hostess attempted to seat us in an area that was essentially families with very young kids and no view (the view was one of the things we came for). We offered to wait at the bar until a better table in the main restaurant opened up. After about 15 minutes their offered us a table which was essentially in the bar area. When we again asked for a better table, remind the hostess that it was a special ocassion we are told the wait might be 40 minutes. 5 minutes after we were seated in an areas adjacent to the kitchen they bused three tables for two in the main section of the restaurant and people were seated at them. I should mention at this point that my wife is African American and it occurred to me that perhaps this had something to do with the poor seating. When I asked the hostess (who said she was also the manager) about this, she said "your reservation guarantees you a table, not a good table. The fact that you had a reservation is the reason you didn't have two wait for two hours" (P.S. none of the people who were seated at the good tables had to wait two hours). How was the food? It was okay, although they got my wife's order wrong twice. She ended up leaving without really eating. We will be suggesting to our hotel that they take Javelina Cantina off their recommended list. My recommendation to anybody else interested in decent Mexican is to avoid this place. There are several decent places to eat Mexican in Sedona, and I am certain they have a greater interest in customer service and a more enlightened attitude about inclusivity.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!
