Popular local bakery on Fa Yuen Street in Mongkok
Ki Tsui Cake Shop is a long standing bakery located on Fa Yuen Street in Mongkok. They are open from 8am to 8pm daily. This is a popular place to try local bread and bakery products including wife cakes, chicken cakes, twisted red bean crunchies, tarts and mooncakes (around Mid-Autumn festival). Expect crowds here most of the day. Just be patient, working your way to front, point at what you want to try and the will bag your items for you. Prices are reasonable, pay in cash and you'll be on your way before you know it.

I am here for my mum who is a frequent patronage of this decade old stalls. Their freshly made glutinous red bean cakes are so succulent to bite into. Every single pastry is hot and fresh out of the oven. Itโs still warm even at night! Just freeze it and steam it when you are ready to eat it again!

As Chinese bakery isnโt really my cup of tea, I havenโt really made an effort to try their products. This bakery has been around for quite some time; they still have those old green tiles on the floor. I am sure anyone who has visited that bustling market would have seen it. There are always people surrounding that shop, it ranges from egg tarts, chicken cakes, savoury crackers, banana cakes, coconut tarts, glutinous rice cake filled with red beans, there should be something for everyone. For westerners I would just recommend the egg tart. Initially I wanted to try the chicken cakes with the red beancurd, but I thought they would be quite fattening, so I tried the mini egg tarts. The egg tarts were in a metal dish, which they use their bare hands to get the egg tart out. The egg tarts tasted how it should, there was more pastry than filling. Next time I will try the chicken cakes.
