Ordinary for such high price
It was highly recommended by a friend who goes there often so I finally went for dinner. It has two seatings each evening - 18:00 and 21:00 and I was given the latter. I arrived few minutes early and there were a few guests already waiting outside. We didn’t allow to go inside until all seats from first seating had left at 21:15 in order for us to be seated and to start the meal at the same time. For the price they charged I didn’t feel the food was of highest standard - a few pieces tasted fishy. The course was very long perhaps because it started off late and by the time I asked for the bill it was 23:45. I left quickly to catch the last train with an unsatisfying feeling in my stomach. I will certainly not go back for a second time as there are other better choices in the same price range that are worth returning.
Be the first to ReplyReally, really good.
An excellent Omakase experience, especially for first timers and diners who shun Japanese Michelin restaurants for fear of a rigid, formalistic experience. It’s still shoulder-to-shoulder, but the decor and vibe (thatched ceilings, low counter, dimmed lights) lend a casualness and rusticity that help quickly overcome any initial awkwardness at being enclosed with complete strangers, as evinced by the continuous chatter in the room from the assorted pairs/groups of Japanese diners. Chef Kurosaki, being conversant in English, makes it a point to explain each dish to non-local audiences. And boy are these dishes DELICIOUS. The flavor profiles broadly align with the overall aesthetic, leaning towards a more rustic and robust palette and away from the bells and whistles synonymous with 2-3 starred Omakases. The array of sakes shouldn’t be discounted either. In sum - come prepared with empty stomachs, and know that you’ll leave with bursting belts and smiles on your faces. Would return.

This is a 10-people restaurant so it is super duper hard to get a reservation. I booked the restaurant for my friend and myself via pocket concierge. We ordered the omakase menu (with 3 glasses of sake). Some dishes were more outstanding than the others such as the sanma sushi and saba sushi. We got super lucky cos it was still the season for sanma and saba. My friend had to order extra ones after we finished the meal cos it was that good. Other dishes were good too, but these 2 pieces of sushi brainwashed me. It will be great if I can book out the restaurant with my friends.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal in Japan
For a country obsessed with food, and a city with more Michelin starred restaurants than any other in the world, for this tiny little place to have the "honor" lol of being our best meal in Japan says a lot. I'm pretty sure it's the most under-the-radar high-end sushi spot in Tokyo, as we were the only only tourists there that night, and it didn't seem like the kind of place that ever gets any. It's a bit hard to find, on the ground floor of a nondescript office building on a quite little side street in Shibuya. Typically small space, with only 10 counter seats and a small private room. Beautiful simple Japanese build out, great casual atmosphere, super-friendly young chef that's always smiling and engaging with his customers (although his English is limited), and of course the food is stunning both visually and taste-wise from beginning to end. It's not inexpensive, but if you're going to splurge on at least one high-end sushi meal in Japan, this would be the one in my opinion, since you really get the local non-touristy experience. Btw, this is not a strictly nigiri and sashimi type of place, there are many types of fish and seafood served during the Omakase meal, so you need to be open-minded to trying different flavors and textures when coming here. Awesome!
