An enjoyable unusual experience
8 of us sat in front of chef Otto Phan while he prepared fresh sushi for us . It was the most expensive meal we have ever eaten but a beautiful experience. Watching chef Otto slicing the very fresh fish and placing a small amount of his special large grain rice like a ball inside the fish appeared like a meditative experience for the chef and for me this state occurred when I placed the sushi in my mouth . I don’t eat meat so chef substituted fish for me when everyone else had steak.. very kind of him

Being Japanese, I'm very picky about my sushi. Although not Japanese, Otto is too --his selection of fish was excellent. I approve. Enjoyed his playful detour from the traditional edomae style which involved Camembert cheese and liquor. The atmosphere is so so because it's so spacious for the space that is actually used and there's hardly any decorations. But I guess it doesn't really matter if you're there for good sushi.
We had another dinner after this full course of sushi so I had my pieces slightly smaller.
Thge Most Genuine Sushi Served In Chicago
Every evening Chef Otto Phan, the owner of this gem of a restaurant dazzles his guests by serving them fresh and tasty sushis. The interior is done tastefully and in simple Japanese style. Soft Western music is played that adds to the warmth of the room. Twenty courses are served Omakase style, meaning the chef prepares land serves the the 16 guests sitting around the counter. During my one visit there, all fish were fresh and were placed on appetizing special rice. Two attentive male servers were around catering to the guests.
For the numbers of servings and the quality of fish the price of $220 (minus the drinks) was well justified.
Finally, an amazing Chicago sushi experience
Seeming deceptively simple presentation masks an unbelievably complex and delicious sushi experience. This is a minimalist experience. Chef prepares your meal. Two amazing servers keep the 20 course tasting menu time perfectly while making sure you are satisfied with your drink choices. Speaking of drinks, Kyoten offers a sake tasting menu only offered at the restaurant. My words can't describe how delicious Chef fed us and entertained us this past weekend. Please trust me the fish was amazing, the rice was both unique and served warm. Finally, there is something about having my food served directly from the chef. Kyoten is a special treat, while perceived to be expensive, actually is an amazing value for those that love fine dining.
