This is one of my favorite places to eat in Midtown.
Steak is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and every soup, appetizer or side dish I've tried did not disappoint. The wine list is great and the service is fantastic too. The décor is George Jetson future-esque, in a fun way. I heard a rumor that the Brasserie is closing, and I am really going to be disappointed if it's true.

Be the first to ReplyBrasserie was my go to place in midtown.
I had been going there for years, for business breakfasts, lunches and dinners...or just drinks at the bar. Sometimes I would go there by myself (the only bar I would ever go to alone in NYC because I'm inherently shy) just to have a Stella because they served THE ABSOLUTE BEST BEER IN THE CITY...consistently. Sorry to say that getting a consistently good beer in Manhattan has been my biggest challenge in the 14 years I've lived here. Tim, Clarissa, Bridget et al were just great behind the bar. Brasserie also had good food at reasonable prices with great wait staff. If anyone can find me a place as good, yelp out loud please.

Both times I went there last year (Sunday brunch and a Tuesday dinner) were outstanding. Great decor and wonderful, authentic french dishes. But it's CLOSED! Bummer

Be the first to ReplyThe brasserie was a favorite haunt in the early 1980s.
It was open all night. It was in a basement, but it was the basement of the Seagram's Building, designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. Although Johnson's highly paid publicists blurred the distinction, Philip Johnson designed the interiors of two restaurants located in the building, not the building itself. Original Picasso ceramics hung on the wall in the Brasserie. Almost everyone sat at the vast counter. I met lots of interesting people there at 4:00 am. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. This was my first return since the place reopened after it was gutted by a fire in the 1990s. My first disappointment was it was no longer open all night. My second was the new lifeless, noisy sci-fi interior; more was less. My third was the food. My fourth was the service. I understand that both restaurants in the building the Four Seasons and the Brasserie will be moving to new locations soon.

Overall, glad we got to try the decent food before this places closes, but this is one of the most BIZARRE restaurant spaces I've dined in - elegant brasserie fare served in a weird quasi-futuristic-airport cafeteria-Ikea-like setting. My gripes: Called ahead, was told I "didn't need" reservation; showed up, asked "what's your reservation?" Waited at bar for table, bartender took forever to even acknowledge our group of 4 at half-empty bar. Ordered a bottle of wine, only gave us 2 glasses after we asked twice for 3. We ended up taking one from a place setting nearby. Went to table, sat towards the end of busy lunch rush while restaurant was still full. Service was decent but towards the end, as tables were clearing out, server seemed to want to clock out and simply dropped check after entrees - we had to ASK for dessert menu and almost felt bad for doing so. Felt rushed. Food was decent - burger was juicy and decadent. Beet/goat cheese salad was very small portion but good flavors. Crab cake deeeeelish. Dessert fabulous. Would probably go back again one more time before they close.
Be the first to ReplyThe hosts were friendly & welcoming.
I appreciate that first impression. Lovely atmosphere w/ low lighting, but not so low that I couldn't see around me. Server took forever to show up; I actually had to ask for him. Folks seated after us received water & their drink order before the fellow I asked to get my server came back w/ water for us. When our server finally arrived we probably exasperated him bec 4 youngsters were asking for things all at once while I tried to ask questions & the men in our party ignored him altogether in favor of their conversation. Anyway, we got thru all that & made our order. He vanished again & only reappeared periodically, but never when I needed him. I found myself constantly looking for him. Finally, I just raised my hand until he appeared. I dislike poor service & even more so in a $$$ restaurant. We arrived early for dinner & the restaurant was only half full (as opposed to half empty cuz I'm just positive like that). So, service should've been better. I ordered a delicious cocktail (Moscow Mule) & an okay carrot soup. Everyone else ordered desserts: 4 orders of the chocolate beignets ordered 2 at a time (bec they're delicious & rich & the tasty ice cream that came w/ them is a nice dessert bonus) & some mousse & bananas dish (of which I'm not a fan).
Be the first to ReplyFood was mediocre and over priced.
My Wedge salad had the wrapper in it from the bacon. Not good. They were really nice and took it off the bill without me asking. Everything is over priced in Time square so that is not that big of a deal. I wouldn't go here again. Just kind of blah.

My friend treated me to a birthday brunch here on Sunday and I would give more than 5 stars on Yelp if I could.Everything was perfect - the food, the beautiful modern space, and the service was over-the-top fantastic. Special shout out to Andras the Manager, and our fantastic server Silvia, who truly epitomized what fantastic customer service is all about.I had a delicious mushroom crepe, followed by a tasty pasta dish. My friend opted for a salad followed by an omelette - both of which she enjoyed immensely. We both also started with bloody marys. After our meal, Silvia surprised us with a decadent slice of chocolate cake (with a birthday candle) that was to die for! When I made a wish, I secretly wished that the piece of cake was only 100 calories. Wrong? Upon leaving, we were so sad to hear that Brasserie would be permanently closing at the end of the month, but we hope to return for one last farewell meal.Highly recommend!
