Interesting concept behind the group's restaurants is that Italian grandmothers (nonnas) do a residency at the restaurant and create a menu based on the classic dishes of the region of Italy they come from. I visited when the restaurant was showcasing the Emilia Romagna region. Upon being seated, and before ordering, we were served fresh bruschetta followed by risotto alla genovese. The bruschetta was delicious whilst the risotto was quite claggy and cold. We tried to order some wine and were told that our two choices were both out of stock before having to order a third variety which was significantly more expensive which was a shame. It took ages for the wine to come. The menu is quite complicated with different set menus entailing a combination of antipasti / pasta / pizza / mains / desserts depending on what you choose but was poorly explained by the staff. Assuming the bruschetta and risotto were the 'antipasti' included in the set menu we opted for that each which was £41 for antipasti, pasta or pizza, and dessert as well as a glass of prosecco. The prosecco took ages to come, arriving after our wine. In fact the antipasti was in addition to what we had already received and therefore it was wholly unnecessary to order the set menu when we could have just moved onto mains. The antipasti was a sharing board including fish & potato stew, cured meats, burrata, ragu, bread, caponata, stracciatella. The ragu was nice but would've been happy without the rest. We ordered 1x cacio e pepe and 1x ragu for mains, however, the staff brought 2x cacio e pepe. So that we could eat together, both mains were sent back, however, when they came back the second time, the cacio e pepe had clearly just been microwaved instead of remade and was claggy and unpleasant. For desert, you don't get an option but instead are served a sharing board of tiramisu, chocolate cake and cheesecake - we were so full by this point we didn't want any and also thought we would get to choose a dessert rather than being served all 3 (we didn't like 2 of them to begin with). The atmosphere was great with 'nonnas' often coming over to explain the food or serve up side orders like the bruschetta (which we now know were complimentary - not explained well). Overall the food was mediocre and the menu was poorly explained resulting in too much food ordered (did not need the set menu) and the dinner being very expensive. The wine selection was slim and what they actually had in stock was expensive. Our mains were incorrect and then when served correctly, they were cold and unappetising as were the desserts and the restaurant did nothing to compensate for this. Tables are very close together and it is difficult to hear. Also check your bill as they included various random and incorrect charges on ours.
