Came to pick up food and the older gentleman who works at/behind the bar handing out food is condescending and sarcastic. Will never come back here, unfortunate because usually the bar people are very kind and warm

This restaurant has mediocre food and they employ very rude hostess staff. Don't waste your time. Head down to Il Pastaio a few doors down were the food is amazing and the staff know what customer service is all about. Il Pastaio has great people watching too.

Best chopped salad ever! I've been coming to La Scalia since I was a little kid with my Mother and Grandmother. It's old school with big red booths and brick walls. The vibe is impeccable.

I usually don't leave reviews, but I feel compelled to let everyone know about our HORRIBLE experience at this establishment. We went here for dinner on Saturday night with another couple and ordered the chop salad, no meat given dietary restrictions. When the salad came we noticed there was salami in it and asked the staff to either send it back or prepare a new one since we could not have it. The waiter said they would take it back, but they would have to charge us regardless of the mix up - UNHEARD OF. We have been to countless restaurants, and have even been to La Scala many times over the years as BH residents, and have never had such a NEGATIVE experience in which we were CHARGED for a meal we had to send back. This restaurant should be ashamed of themselves -- they have VERY poor management/ customer service and we DEFINITELY WONT BE GOING BACK. Will make sure all of our friends & family know about this as well. ZERO STARS.

The food was excellent, just like it has been for the last 35 years. The hostess was polite and our waiter's service was very good too. I don't understand the bad ratings for this place. Whenever we are in town we love to come back to La Scala
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very good.
The hostess wouldn't seat me until my whole party arrived. When we sat down, there were a few tables waiting for their parties to arrive. I asked the server to sub the lettuce in my salad and the waiter told me he asked 3 people that it couldn't be done. When I was walking out, I asked a manager and he said that is not true. The server also neglected to come by during our lunch to get more water and drinks. I would ask a bus person and was told the waiter will get it but never showed up. One other bus person was helpful. The bread was toasted and cold so we sent it back and received less pieces. The service used to be so good. What happened?
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner last night with my wife.
After Caesar salads she ordered Veal Scaloppine and I ordered Fettuccini Alio e Olio plus Chianti wine. The waiter did not know how to take the pasta order. After an interminable wait the food arrived Ice cold and inedible. I complained and the waiter took the plates back to kitchen to redo our order. When the second version arrived the pasta couldn't be eaten it was so cold and the veal was hard as cardboard. The was an awful experience at a long time place that should know better. Will never return.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant was a big disappointment.
Went there last night to celebrate my birthday. We sat in a small table because no booth was available. When a booth became available I asked the supervisor to put as in the booth but he refused because we had ordered a salad! I asked why couldn't they transfer the check or even keep the same server and he said that it was against restaurant "policy". The booth was open for half an hour before someone else arrived. The server was made aware of the situation and not only she did not try to rectify the situation, she did not even wish me Happy birthday at the end! Horrible service all around. The food is also not very good. The carbonara was awful and the garlic bread was too. No wonder the restaurant was almost empty by 930 on a Saturday night while both restaurants next door were packed. Six people walked in at 930 and they told them that they were closed and they left. So if you don't want your birthday celebration to be spoiled find another restaurant.

Horrible just horrible, plenty of other options beyond this outdated and pretentious for no reason establishment
Be the first to ReplyHorrible attitude, horrible food, dirty seats and tables.
Please just don't do it. You can get a good chopped salad elsewhere.

2.5 stars?'!?! Unreal! 2.5 stars for convenient, across the street parking. Forget about the crazy location- people watching, shopping, more food all at your feet. This place is a gem! Their turkey chopped salad is a delight. Cool, crisp, full of texture and flavor! I got the seafood linguine tonight as well- delicious and saucy (just wiped splats off my dress). The perfect companion to a bread basket. Service was friendly, unpretentious, and attentive. The decor is totally my vibe- happy string lights everywhere, hanging lanterns. Love. La Scala is a reliable, really enjoyable, low key spot that hits the spot. Five stars!
Be the first to ReplyBack to my favorite pasta! Spaghetti with Cognac sauce.
The dish was finished within minutes so no picture this time; however I can tell you I wish I ordered a second. The dish comes with plenty of shrimp and a thick creamy sauce mixed with perfectly cooked spaghetti. We also ordered the usual Salami Chopped salad. I love when a salad is finely chopped unlike a wedge salad. Ambiance- Elegant Food- Delicious Customer Service- Prompt Location- Easy to findParking- Easy & plenty
Be the first to ReplyI have been going to La Scala for lunch (primarily) and
I have been going to La Scala for lunch (primarily) and dinner (occasionally) for years--many years before the Pandemic, take out during, and dining in at night and on the patio for lunch more recently. Without a doubt, La Scala has the best chopped salad in Los Angeles (and I'm an LA native). Thought twice about going back to a fav for dinner tonight, just because of the negative reviews, but rest assured there is no need for hesitation. The people who answer the phone (who were able to confirm my request for an indoor booth), the hostess who graciously greets you upon arrival, the waitstaff, and the servers were all welcoming and professional in every way (online criticisms notwithstanding). My husband's cocktail, our wine, and then food were all served timely and hot (or cold and crisp, as my salad was expected to be). The food was excellent: I had my beloved Leon turkey chopped salad (delete cheese, add cucumbers and tomatoes), and could have been done with that as it is a generous portion (though, without regrets, I added a delicious checca 1/2 order of pasta for a starter, which was generously filled with fresh tomatoes and basil--which was a great substitute for bread service--La Scala 10 years ago had the best restaurant bread around, sorry they've lost/replaced that source). My husband enjoyed his caesar salad and lobster ravioli. We are BH locals and without a doubt will return.
Be the first to ReplyNice selection of fresh pastas and seafood entrées.
Can't go wrong best chop salad in Los Angeles.
Be the first to ReplyI been coming to La scala for years.
I work in BH and loved their chopped salad despite price. Today they've lost me. The chicken chop became inconsistent, sometimes the chicken was hot, sometimes it was cold. I like hot protein in my salads and today I didn't want to risk being cold so I asked if they could make sure the chicken was warm or hot and they said no. They say the chicken is to be served cold and the times I got hot was luck because likely was just fresh off the grill. Essentially they prepare them all in advance and refrigerate them. I asked again for them to warm it up for me even if the microwave, answer is no. This unhelpful attitude marked the end of my patronage. I'll find elsewhere to hold my meetings and eat lunch.I would give one star but I'm keeping 2 because I did enjoy some of my past services.
Be the first to ReplyI've been going to La Scala for many many years.
I made a reservation for 7 PM and when I got there, they said there's a 40 minute wait. After explaining to them that I had a reservation, they kept telling me that the people in the back made a mistake by overbooking. I don't think that's a very good way of treating a regular customer and therefore I cannot give them a good review in this particular case. They deserve a one star at best. I had even called to confirm my reservation 45 minutes ahead of time and they say everything was good. When I called, Gabriel told me very happily to come in, and that there would be a table for me and my family. After this incident, I left the restaurant immediately as I could not believe a fancy restaurant in Beverly Hills could treat a regular customer in such a way. I went to another restaurant that could see me right away and had a much better experience there. I would think twice before making a reservation La Scala.
Be the first to ReplyI sincerely hope the owner sees this.
please read it's a mind blower!!I went to La Scala Saturday night & had dinner. I get home in Encino at 7:30. I realize I left my phone there, I call and ask them to check for my phone. the waiter says he's too busy to check! he says call back. I call back an hour later he refuses to look I call back again, he refuses to look. finally at 10:00pm he says they found it! but they are closing, I said let me give you $50 to stay until I get there he said no. I said what time do you open tomorrow? he said we are closed Sunday & Monday!!! I begged they refused. he said come Tuesday at 11:00 I show up at 11:00 it's closed but waiters & the hostess are there they said we are closed come back at 11:30 I said please give me my phone they walked away!! I started pounding on the door to get them to respond. they called the police. the cops came I told them that the restaurant stole my phone they have it and won't give it back. they went in it took 20 minutes to find it. all weekend without my phone I'm a realtor. what assholes. they could have cared less. I will never go back
Be the first to ReplyI used to dine here years ago.
Loved their chop salad. When trying to have lunch with my girlfriend, I was there as soon as their doors opened for service. They refused to seat me till she arrived (which is silly considering if I wanted to sit alone for lunch they'd still have to give me a table.) When bringing this to their attention they agreed to seat me but said that if my girlfriend showed up, they would refuse to serve her.....I have no words other than, they clearly do not want business.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for service.
I called to order a salad to go and the guy who picks up the phone is always curt and non friendly. He's not helpful at all and has a condescending tone. I would definitely have ownership look at who they're hiring because service is such a big part of a restaurant experience.

Its always a pleasure to visit one of LA's stalwart classic restaurants.La Scala isnt in its old building, but the menu seems intact.Regretably their famous chopped salad was flavorless, bland but other items we tried were excellent as was the waitstaff.Well worth the visit
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give a 0 star I would.
I've never had this happen to me before. I arrived 15 min late to lunch with my 2 sisters. (Traffic on the 405 can be a disaster) anyway not your problem mine. My sisters salads had just arrived. We called the waiter over so I could order mine. We were told I could not have to eat only a drink. It's their policy. It would throw the kitchen off. What the heck kind of policy is that? It's a BS policy. We we're at the table another 11/2 hours. Plenty of time for the kitchen to get it together to make a salad. But nope. The waiter was a jerk from the moment my sisters sat down. What's the point in going to work if your just going to try and push your bad attitude on other people. Just stay home. And LaScala... change your damn policy. It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Your kitchen can make a damn salad. That's what your known for. It takes 3 minutes.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant only delivers via 3rd party.
So I placed an order via Uber Eats well in advance to today's delivery. They delivered totally wrong order, so I called La Scala to find out what went wrong and try to get the right order delivered. I spoke with Richard who sounded like he totally didn't care about what happened and kept saying that they are too busy right now. He said that they had 2 orders under the same name and last initial, and they are not able to see the full last name of the customer when it's sent from Postmates or Uber Eats. So I asked him if possible to process the correct order ASAP. He said he can't do that because there are no drivers right now in the area. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he is too busy with other customers. So basically there was zero effort to correct the situation. I would rate zero if that was possible.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure how you do NO stars.
Honestly, I know better than to come here, but I felt like picking up a salad and got close by parking. My lunch salad (chix chop) was $12.95 and I added salami which was +$7. I questioned that cuz you can imagine how little they put in. So, he said "I can ring it up differently", which he did, and then it was $11 for the salami. Oh. and no bread with the salad All this with a nasty, holier than thou, I'll show you attitude. Never again. They are just awful there, and I know better, because I have never had good service there. My first time ever not tipping.
Be the first to ReplyThe waiters clearly wish you weren't there .
It's unbelievable. These guys obviously don't eat at other restaurants so I guess they have no idea what service is really about . It's almost funny watching them walk by you and ignoring you when you need something . Pathetic
Be the first to ReplyI've been coming to and loving La Scala for years.
No one makes their marinara sauce. Unfortunately, when you start charging for bread and don't give the marinara sauce as a side dish and you start to wonder. However, when the portions start looking like they've been cut in half when you order to go, then you have to really wonder why you're paying $25 for iceberg lettuce. I did ask if they cut the size of their portions and was told it's the same number of ounces but I have my suspicions. It used to be enough for 2 people to share and now it's very clearly half of that. Time to find a replacement.
