Last Friday, our party of 8 was seated in the corner across from the bar. Matthew was our waiter and he did an amazing job going through each of the specials and recommending his favorites. He definitely had a way of describing each dish so you could visualize it. I think we mostly ordered only his favorites or the specials he mentioned. We started with drinks and I ordered the Alessandra ($16) "toasted coconut cruzan rum, blanc vermouth, banana, passionfruit, absinthe, pineapple, lime, vanilla". It arrived in a peacock glass that had everyone oohing and ahhing when it was placed in front of me. We were so distracted by how pretty it was that no one noticed the other ninja servers placing their drinks down before them.As suggested, we got two appetizers to share amongst our group. The Fritto Misto ($24) "calamari, rock shrimp, crawfish, shishitos, cherry pepper" wasn't quite what I expected as the pieces I got were mostly artichokes and less seafood. The Peruvian Bay Scallops ($22) "truffle aioli, smoked trout roe, breadcrumbs" has been on the menu since they opened and is their most popular appetizer. The highlight is the smoked trout roe in the aioli sauce for sure. We also got the Steak Tartare ($25) "dill lavash, quail egg" based on the previous Yelp photos posted and other reviews. However, I think this variation is different as the one that's most featured. This version was heavy on the acid, and just wasn't my favorite version of tartare. My first bite of the Orecchiette ($22) "chile, truffle, maitake" was a bit heavy, but I grew to enjoy it more and more as I consumed the pasta. And the little heat that creeps up at the end of each bite is a nice surprise as well. The Stracci ($25) "braised beef cheeks, mushrooms, pecorino, sage" was the most ordered dish at our table and the Husband really enjoyed it. It was very warm and homely and had such a nice depth to it. He would definitely order it again. The service was good, although it took a little while to get our drink and food orders in. But once we started, Matthew kept our water glasses filled without a blink of the eye. This restaurant is loud, and I'm not sure if it's because of the table next to us or the way the sound moves within the restaurant. The portions were actually on par with our expectations. For a couple, two pasta dishes with one or two appetizers left us feeling full but not overly. I wouldn't recommend sharing dishes if your party is larger than 4 people though. Since everyone in our party got pasta, I can't account for size of the other entrees offered.
