Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Institution
This is an LA institution so we had to try it and the food was lovely we had the famous number 19 and spilt it the quality of the food was great and we met and spoke at length with the owner he is genuinely a great guy to talk to about LA and the food he has served for so long
Obsessed with their Pastrami sandwich (#19) and the hot
Obsessed with their Pastrami sandwich (#19) and the hot Tongue sandwich. My ultimate favorite!
The best pastrami on the west coast.
Deal with the location - it's worth it. Park in the public parking lot about a block up, kitty corner to the place but go. If you like pastrami, it will be hard to eat after eating your $26 pastrami here. Ya, that's right. It's as gourmet as you can get but it will be a sandwich you'll attempt to share and then realize you have to have the whole thing. I can't wait to pay $26 for another one of these. The bread is soft and the pastrami melts in your mouth. No wonder this is one of LA's last institutions that I hear is about to close. Go figure.
Great food, great service, great place, that's all I have
Great food, great service, great place, that's all I have to say about Langer's. Never lets me down.
Incredible pastrami that's worth going to McArthur park.
There's no avoiding it, McArthur park is just a bad part of town, but nestled within it is the best pastrami in the city. It's a bit pricey but the meat is piled on high and the ambiance is just lovely. They have free parking too!
Langer's Delicatessen has been around since 1947.
Langer's serves up a world class pastrami sandwich. I've been to many Jewish Delis in NYC and Langer's is just as good as the best of them. The #19 is the most popular order at Langer's. It consists of Pastrami, Swiss Cheese and Cole Slaw Russian Style Dressing. What I ordered: -Matzo Ball Soup $6 -#19 - Pastrami, Swiss Cheese and Cole Slaw Russian Style Dressing $24 -Cream Soda $4.50 -Knish $8 The Matzo Ball Soup tasted like something my Grandmother or Mother would make. It came with one matzo ball. It was very nostalgic for me to eat it. Takes me back to my childhood. I love when food can transport you back in time to another time. The #19 Pastrami Sandwich was an excellent sandwich. The pastrami was high quality pastrami and the texture was superb. Just take a look at this sandwich. It's a thing of beauty. The layering of the of the coleslaw and the pastrami and the cheese. It was very pleasing to look at this sandwich as well. Sounds weird to say that. Let's just say it's presented very well. I love the Rye Bread at Langer's as its nice and moist in the inside, but has a nice crunch to the crust on the outside. The Knish is pretty good. I will say the portion size is very healthy and it pairs quite well with the gravy. The Cream Soda was so refreshing and crisp. It was a proper deli soda. It wasn't overly sweet and had strong carbonation. Just how I like it. I'm looking forward to coming back to Langer's to try other deli items such as the potato latkes and the cheese blintzes. Langer is one of my top 5 LA institutions. In my personal opinion, Langer's #19 is the best sandwich in LA. Frank was great server. He was very attentive and a gentleman.
If you're looking for the best pastrami in SoCal, this is
If you're looking for the best pastrami in SoCal, this is the place to go. I've eaten at Katz and Carnegie (closed a few years ago) in Manhattan and Langer's is their equal. Their rye bread is so flavorful with a crunchy crust. They sell it by the loaf, so take some home. When you walk in, you are instantly taken back to an East Coast deli atmosphere. Has a loyal and local crowd. Great service and friendly staff, some of whom have worked there for years. Other reviewers have raved about the #19 sandwich and they have it right. Soo good! Only knock is the location by MacArthur Park which is over flowing with homeless & street folks. Felt a little nervous parking my car, but Langer's has a dedicated parking lot just a block east. It fills up, so go early.
Horrible food on my visit and took stuff home.
Waste of good money. Almost 100.00. Matzoh ball soup, no noodles, broth was water and salty at that! Bagels were horrible. Ate them fresh. Never ever go there! Doesn't deserve 1 star!!!!!!
We drove from Santa Clarita today just to get a #19!
We drove from Santa Clarita today just to get a #19! Definitely worth the drive. The best pastrami sandwich in Los Angeles. As a special surprise today, we got to meet Norm Langer
The most perfect pastrami sandwich and was so tasty.
Great crunch on the bread crust and soft and doughy center. I don't know what else to say. If you want the best pastrami sandwich, don't miss this place. Service was friendly and fast and the booth seating was comfortable. There is a designated parking spot about a block away labeled specifically for the deli and they validate parking at the restaurant-- just make sure to ask for it.
The service is always great here, nice throw back
The service is always great here, nice throw back restaurant/deli. The food is amazing and can't go wrong with the classic #19 or #44 or any other delicious sides like the chili fries or Matzo Ball soup. Pastrami here is the best in LA period.
A true deli in the middle of downtown LA service is great
A true deli in the middle of downtown LA service is great decor exactly what you expect from a deli on must visit when you're in downtown LA
It's a bit hard for me to name something the "best
It's a bit hard for me to name something the "best pastrami" because it's a sandwich I only eat every once in a while, but this is at least the best I've had, at least as good as Katz' in NYC, which I had a few years ago. I got the #19-pastrami with coleslaw on rye-the word I would use to describe it is decadent-it's buttery and melt in your mouth meat, a huge sandwich that was bigger than I expected. If I went back again I'd probably try the pastrami or corned beef with sour kraut or mustard to try something else. This is an old school diner in a busy area just west of downtown LA. They have parking down the street that they'll validate for you. Customer service was excellent. Overall I'd recommend this place for anyone who either lives in the area or is visiting and is looking for a great Jewish deli sandwich.
The hyped #19 sandwich sounded wonderful but the enticing
The hyped #19 sandwich sounded wonderful but the enticing deli plate of #12 Mixed Delicatessen (Corned Beef, Pastrami, Tongue) was just too powerful. Although everything was tender, the flavor of the pastrami seasoning really shined and certainly the juiciest of the three. Beef tongue was this sliced and the most tender. Corned beef was the least tender and least flavorful but still good. It also included a side, got fries that came out hot with Russian dressing. The accompanying mix of veggies were a perfect match: raw radish, raw carrot, green and black olives, a dill pickle, several baby sweet pickles, and a piece of green leafy lettuce. Did I mention you get 4 slices of bread? Yum! Service was slow, but it was a weekend lunch rush. The atmosphere was lively and felt like traveling back in time several decades in a good way. PS free parking for 90 minutes at the Langer's Deli Parking Lot a block away.
Oh yes Downtown big city deli worth a visit In a sketchy
Oh yes Downtown big city deli worth a visit In a sketchy MacArthur park area but don't you want LA culture and history with your stunning meal?
The food is so delicious the best corn beef ever.
Pastrami was so delicious as well. I prefer thinner, theirs are so thick. The brisket sandwich was so delicious as well. Melted in mouth in a first bite. Probably, the best place to have those kinds of sandwiches. Kind staff. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is parking which is a big issue. I wish they had another branch in Los Angeles. Absolutely worth trying.
After a full day at a convention, I needed some good eats.
That's when I remembered Langers as this has been a spot that a buddy has been recommending to me for some time. I'm so glad that I finally got a chance to check it out. THE RESTAURANT: The moment you enter, you are instantly whisked back to the 1940's. Throughout the restaurant are deep coffee brown upholstery and tabletops. A vintage clock and faded photographs and articles cover the cocoa colored walls. Even the Silver King milkshake mixer machine and Bunn coffee makers on the side adds to the traditional feel of the shop. The row of plush swivel chairs along a wood countertop with stainless steel kitchen counters in the background reflects that classic American diner style of the past as well. In terms of the menu, they focus on a select variety of deli sandwiches, breakfast items, salads, and other deli goods. My server was sociable and friendly. We actually chatted a bit about our thoughts on Langers versus some other delis in New York (since he was originally from the Big Apple). THE FOOD (5/5): Number 19 (5/5) - My server recommended I go with this menu item, which is their Pastrami sandwich on rye bread, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing ($24). Upon first bite, my only thought was, "I'm in pastrami heaven, and I need to come back again ASAP." This place easily competes as one of my best pastrami sandwich experiences in my life; I go back and forth between Katz Deli in New York with this. Therefore, I feel it's apt to give a comparative review between these two delicatessens. Between Katz and Langers, in terms of pastrami, I think Katz slightly edges them out. There's just a tenderness, depth of flavor at Katz that still blows my mind. That being said, Langers has the superior bread quality without any contest. Their rye has an exceptional, thin, crunchy crust with a dreamy soft interior (yet it maintains and holds all the fillings without falling apart). I also prefer Langers refreshing, tangy bite of the Cole slaw and Russian dressing to cut through that salty, savory pastrami. Both serve top tier sandwiches, but I think I have to give Langers the "W" when I consider all the parts together. Potato Salad (4/5) -Langers potato salad ($4.50) is good. It's that standard, chunky, creamy potato salad with that complex mix of textures and flavors (crunchy, soft, sweet, savory, etc.). Cheesecake (5/5) w/ strawberry sauce on side - I couldn't leave without a slice of their cheesecake since it had been teasing me from their fridge the whole time I was there. How can I describe that heavenly play between the toasted top, velvety cream cheese center, and the crumbly graham cracker base? As a cheesecake fan, I enjoyed every spoonful from start to finish. It's well worth the $10!
Great service and yeah, the best pastrami on earth or
Great service and yeah, the best pastrami on earth or perhaps the universe. They would get six stars if the neighborhood ever improves.
Well it's true.
The pastrami does melt in your mouth. Super tender and juicy. Don't even need the au jus. I do wish for the price it was bigger sandwich. The bread was fresh Two sandwiches with fries $65 And the Jewish penicillin soup. Very good. Great flavor and matzo ball puffy and soft and the broth is so good. There's 90 mins free parking a block away but get there early bc it's a small lot. And the line starts forming around 1100 am. We got there at 1030 am. Location is downtown La And you know it's not the cleanest.
Overrated touristy place, but food is pretty average Service
Overrated touristy place, but food is pretty average Service is friendly, ambiance of an old run down place
Our pastrami sandwich was DELICIOUS.
Our wait wasn't very long, our hostess / server was friendly Ava sweet, and took care of us. My favorite thing I ordered was a side of chili cheese fries! Amazing.
Excellent Pastrami
The #19 pastrami sandwich is the best, excellent flavor, very good bread and quality pickles. It exceeded my expectations!!!
Good food, the area not so much
I ordered sandwish #44 (although the famous one is #19) which has small differences from the most famous one. Regarding this, I really liked it, if I would return to the place without a doubt, in addition to the fact that the waitress Paola is very attentive. Apart from the sandwish I ordered chilli cheese fries, which lacked flavor. The place is nice, although it is somewhat old, it is well maintained, perhaps the only bad thing (outside of the food issue) is the area, since it is perceived as unsafe and it is difficult to park nearby. In my case I was 2 blocks away and limited in time, since the parking meter only allowed 1 hour...
Oh, the Pastrami!
The pastrami was delicious as was the cheese blintz! Our server, Frank was wonderful. We will definitely return on our next visit to Los Angeles.
amazing meal
Without a doubt, this place serves the most exceptional pastrami I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The pastrami and brisket simply melt in your mouth, delivering an unforgettable experience. In fact, I must declare that this is, without a doubt, the finest deli I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.
Arguibly the best deli in the US
What could I possibly add to a review that people haven't already said? The place is great, and their 76 years of business proves just that. From the ambiance, the service, and the history, to the quality of the food, everything was absolutely stellar and this could very well be the best Jewish delicatessen in the country. Their #19 pastrami on rye is a must-order. The bread, the meat, the coleslaw and the Russian dressing just work and it's an absolutely banger of a sandwich. The rye bread is fluffy and holds things together nicely. It's the best rye bread I've ever had, by a mile. But don't sleep on their matzo ball soup, which is also divine - and don't let the clear broth fool you - it's packed with chicken-y flavor. I know that McArthur Park isn't the best area but it's fine. Just park in the lot a block away, and you'll get parking for 90 minutes upon validation. It's way safer than it looks, but just be aware of your surroundings. I will be dreaming about that #19 sandwich until next time I'm in town. A+

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
