This is what a 3-star Michelin restaurant is all about
Everything from start to finish was excellent. Let's start with service. Every individual went above and beyond. If we asked questions, we not only received answers, but also detailed explanations. Food service was wonderful. Each dish came with a detailed description. Wine service was amazing. The sommelier was knowledgable and did his best to provide as much detail as possible when describing the wines as well as why each one was paired with its accompanying food item. Silverware service was impressive. Let's talk food. WOW! WOW! WOW! Each dish is expertly crafted. Seafood items were extraordinarily fresh. Every dish had a unique flavor profile and everything was delicious. Wines were high quality and paired perfectly with each dish. Dessert was great - not too heavy or rich, just perfect. We will come back every time we visit the city!

I can't believe this can happen in 2024. I went for lunch to treat my mother. They sat all the Asian diners in the back wall - "a Asian section". It was so obvious that my mother felt quite bad. The waiter waited near our table for taking the order like a local diner. When I went with Europen colleagues, this never happened. If you of certain ethnicity, avoid Le Bernadin, their service is "different". I can't believe I spent a $400 lunch to feel so bad.

Without a doubt, one of the finest restaurants in New York....or anywhere. Superb atmosphere, service and oh! the food. I dare not share what we had because everything is so good. You'll leave a little less in your estate for your kids but it's well with it.

Lr Bernardin is perfection: from the moment you walk in the door, the service, the staff, the food, drinks, and wine are all of the charts. This is the standard by which all fine dining should be measured. Each and every person we interacted with was a consummate professional. That started with the maitre d who greeted us, to the server, bread person, sommelier, all the other servers, and even the coat check woman. We’ve eaten in the best restaurants in the world, haven’t been here in many years, but hands down this was one of the finest dining experiences we ever had. The amuse-bouche was amazing, as was each and every course - tuna, langoustines, halibut, chocolate egg, and desert. The white burgundy we ordered was also perfect, as were our cocktails. The room itself was also spectacular and so was our table. I could go on and on. For fine dining, there is no better restaurant in New York.

I debated even writing this but after the conversation with the restaurant they seemed very open to receiving feedback both good and bad so with that in mind I am writing about my terrible dinner experience there on 1/12/24. It was celebrating my 50th birthday and both my wife and I got the Chef's Tasting Menu. It started off well but then we got to the Sea Bass course. My Sea Bass was inedible...it was tough and I literally could not cut it with a knife. I sent it back needless to say. My wife's lobster was then as chewy as a rubber tire. Those two issues are enough to warrant some disappointment for such a well regarded establishment but the real coup de gras was that both my wife and I became violently ill with food poisoning approximately 24 hours after our meal. I know this is a serious complaint but being both my wife and I are doing intermittent fasting, there was no other food consumed in that time period that could have contributed for both of us. The restaurant has been informed and they did call to apologize but this is completely unacceptable and I feel strongly our experience should be out there. This was my first time here and I certainly anticipate it being my last.

Consistently one of the best in the world. Simply outstanding food and service. We had the tasting menu and it would be hard to pick a favorite dish. Inventive preparations and impeccable service (as an example, every time we used a bit of butter the dish was replaced, even though no one seemed to immediately around to notice). Not inexpensive, but worth every penny. Looking forward to our next visit.

Service was good at the start but went down crazy when the place becomes full.. it is not what i expected in this highly rated restaurant.. we started with amuse bouche but nothing special, the big bowl of salmon rillette from the 80 nothing special the bread large selection but nothing very tasty specially the baguette, the appetizers was good the Dover sole also but vegetables missing!! My flounder served with blend bouillabaisse jus and micro garnish too small to enjoy the fish too crusty for this kind of preparation the sorbet was good good but nothing special served with sugar cookies my baba was more cream than baba and very small ice cream for the price you pay you expect more!!

If you are looking for excellent service, great wine pairing and excellent food then you should book here. Don’t skimp and think the a la carte will do, go for the tasting menu if you can. The scallops in particular are amazing. The reservations are released 7am (EST) on the first for the month ahead. Remember to set an alert to book as close to that time as possible if there’s a particular reservation that you want.

I was just ok with my previous visit a few years ago but LOVED the City Harvest lunch menu offerings this past February. I sat at the bar and really enjoyed the exceptional service provided to me by Kosta. I mentioned that I would be attending the matinee for Moulin Rouge ( a must see!) and Kosta assured me he would get me to the musical on time which he did. Both the Moulin Rouge and Summer Wind cocktails were fantastic and I also enjoyed a terrific Riessdorfkolsch beer. Bread assortment is very nice. All 3 courses were perfect, not just excellent but perfect. The $163 (not including gratuity) for what I received was money very well spent and I look forward to Le Bernadin on my next visit to NYC.

Myth debunked I have not been to the restaurant for many years and after reading wonderful reviews I thought it a great place to celebrate my wife's 85th birthday. Needless to say it was extremely hard to get a reservation fortunately my American Express platinum card enabled me to get a reservation at 5:45 PM last night. As I remembered it still is an extremely beautiful place. But after my experience last night I cannot encourage anybody to go to this restaurant - be prepared to spend $500 for such a mediocre experience. If for some reason you do go do not sit in the rear of the restaurant, there is the entrance to the kitchenand your head will spin with the constant flow of people going in and out- completely distracting dining. I am 90 years old, been to 57 countries and have eaten in the finest restaurants in the world – this certainly is not one of them. There is a constant interference by waiters and etc. instead of fine unobtrusive service found in fine restaurants/ All of the above could be forgiven if the food lived up to its reputation. You have two choices to start with followed by one entrée and dessert($185). To start with we ordered the langostino which was overcooked and sent back. For the entrée i ordered the fluke and after the experience of the starter I asked the waiter please do not overcook it. It came well done, overcooked and tasteless and sent this back, After this 2nd experience I declined ordering anything else. My wife did enjoy her halibut. For dessert she ordered a Carmel dessert- just adequate. They only charged me alacart for the items I ate. At a price which will exceed $250 a person with wine and drinks one would expect much more. It's all about fussiness and the presentation rather than great seafood and elegant service. Happy 85 to my beautiful wife,

We were able to have lunch here while in town for a long weekend. We were very pleased with our experience. The staff was very nice. We had some great wine pairings with our courses. Ideally, the seating would be a little more spaced apart but this is NYC where space is at a premium. The food was outstanding. We would definitely return.

This had been one of the best fine dining establishment. We had looked forward to yet another amazing experience. Again the food was fantastic but the service was shady and often just odd. They told us upfront about the time limit. We are aware having worked at restaurants they need to turn tables but that is not how you greet a guest unless things have changed…? We never were asked if we’d like add in items to our tasting menu. We were served dessert and then asked what about the cheese cart so that came later. We never were really sure who our waiter was but worse was how the staff left us feeling uncomfortable. The bill was consistent and very expensive so they got that right. I actually called the restaurant and the gal who answered was right away negative towards me since my feedback was short of a compliment. So then I decided to share via this post. My first negative post on any Michelin rated restaurant.

I booked a reservation to celebrate two 50th birthdays. We arrived, were warmly received, exchanged some great conversation in French with the Maitre D, then were whisked away to what was an excellent table. Although the food was absolutely impeccable, the service was the star of our dining experience at Le Bernardin. A small team of waiters expertly moved us through the entire dining experience with warm smiles and careful attention to ensure we were always satisfied. Our one minor disappointment was with the Sommelier who really struggled to suggest an appropriate Sancerre. We ended up choosing one we know and purchase at home - but really wanted to try something new. The food, as stated above, was of outstanding quality and flawlessly prepared. The Dover Sole was a particular hit, as was the Sea Trout. Although many here have commented they felt rushed, our party did not get that sense at all. We carried on with great conversation over a few after diner drinks and, were surprised when a complimentary desert was delivered to the table with candles to commemorate the birthdays. All in all, a tremendous experience that was enjoyed by all.

My experience was a 5 out of 5. One of my best Birthdays and I had the honor to share this Michelin experience with my 17 year old son. This 8 course lunch experience exceeded my expectations. We sat in the Bar area which I think is better than the dining area. The service was very intimate and attentive.

Went for a birthday meal on a trip to new york and had the chef tasting menu (8 courses). The restaurant is very pleasant and the service was good in general. It was very professional. Some of the dishes were very good, others pretty average. The food was rushed very quickly. No chance to breathe between the courses. Having been to similar restaurants elsewhere, I am used to a much slower pace. Overall, somewhat disappointing for a 3 star restaurant

What a magnificent dining experience! As good as one can find anywhere in the world. In beautiful surroundings, with friendly, attentive service without hovering one gets perfectly prepared fish dishes. It has been many years ago when last we ate here, a difficult to obtain reservation and Covid some explanation.But we will come as often as we return to nyc. My wife had poached lobster in butter sauce and a mixed seafood dish while I had amazing octopus slices with chorizo finish on a bed of squid ink Spanish noodles and delcious langoustines. We shared a salt crusted roasted whole black bass the fillets simply melting in the mouth served along side with bayaldi. I had a great cheese course to finish. My wife had a strawberry confection. The helpful sommelier steered us to Guigal Condrieu which was perfect for our meal. At the end of the day the experience was persistent perfection.

I haven’t been here for a while so thought I stop by after a show but they didn’t like I had short sleeved shirt even though it was a collar shirt and it was like 80 F outside. Honestly, we are in the Theater District with so many tourists, so give me a break. Anyway, they made me wear their dinner jacket and it was hot in that thing even though there was AC. For the record, I dined with a short sleeve shirt at Chef’s Table (3 Michelin Stars), Per Se (3 Michelin Stars), Masa (3 Michelin Stars), and Jean Georges (2 Michelin Stars), and no one made me wear any dinner jacket. Service was professional but seemed robotic. I felt really stuffy there. Perhaps it is better in their lounge area because it was more quiet there and less ppl running around. I think it’s too dark there but perhaps I’ve been eating too many traditional Omakases. Food is fine but I didn’t like the stuffiness or having to wear a jacket. Kinda done with tasting menu. The best tasting menu is actually Japanese Omakase and they don’t have a dress code in any of them no matter how reputable the chef, except for one in Chinatown.

So I have been off trip advisor for some time but love making honest assessments if overrated places. I have been brought up in a very traditional society and I know that if you accidentally make a faux par you should not be embarrassed. I was wearing a mask due to COVID. My colleagues were not but when I took it off to eat I should have put it in my lap. However I mistakenly put it on the table. I was made to feel very small by the staff. This is clearly an institutional decision. No civility at all. I know a bit about etiquette and the one thing I do know is that you never tell someone they are doing it wrong. Done very badly. When it came to the desert I was also offered coffee. My coffee Was served over my desert and I felt pushed aside by the waiter. I have eaten in many Michelin Star Restaurants but the service was not of the quality that I would expect. Clumsy and humiliating. They wanted to lecture me on etiquette yet having been to a British public school and would know how to eat with royalty this was very poor. OK, the food was excellent. Just do not ruin it with patronising behaviour. Chefs full marks but the Maitre De who was organising the show and leading the waiters should be educated themselves. The waiters could not answer questions about the dishes and I knew more about European wine than they did. Good food but not worthy of a Michelin star.

A visit to Le Bernardin had been on my bucket list for many years. But, the menu - at least on paper - did not draw me in. And, given it is not easy to get a reservation, we kept putting it off. Recently, a friend volunteered to make the reservation; so, we decided to give it a try. For me, one of the most memorable parts of the experience was the service. The ratio of staff to customers is very high and the servers were friendly, attentive and very efficient. The food, as to be expected was excellent. But, it has now been several weeks since our meal at Le Bernardin and the portion of the meal that I remember most was the bread. The bread basket contained five choices which were all absolutely outstanding. Our seafood was expertly prepared and flavorful, but, not particularly memorable. At the prices charged, I can understand why some people may not see the value in having a meal at Le Bernardin. If you value excellent service and food that it prepared well, I would definitely recommend Le Bernardin - it is a five star experience. If, however, you are looking for great food and a good value, there are probably better choices.

My mother’s follow up birthday dinner last Friday night at 3* Le Bernardin was spectacular. I’ve been here twice before, and this one definitely measured up despite the chaos. There was one faux pas slip by not introducing our final dessert course, and none of us were wowed by the poached lobster or its sake pairing — but otherwise the meal and wine pairings were pretty flawless. The Dover Sole, Scallop Caviar, Langoustine, Tuna Fois Gras, and Pistachio dessert all were mind-blowing. Definitely worth a return trip. Absolutely loved it. This and Gramercy Tavern always deliver. My favorite 3* in NYC to be sure. Worth every penny. P.S. The St Regis New York concierge team earned its keep with this booking alone.
