Almost perfect
I have been to this restaurant before in 2019, and enjoyed it enough to return. I arrived at 7:27, three minutes before they opened, but they seated us saying they didn’t open until 7:30. They were still getting everything ready. The waiter then came, brought us the menus, took the water order and all was fine. I ordered oysters for an appetizer. Personally, I prefer oysters from the Eastern Shore of Virginia, but that’s subjective. Then came the John Dory with an excellent sauce. I usually do not eat saucy foods and have my fish grilled, but this sounded interesting. My wife had grilled sole which she said was excellent and plentiful. We had their black rice and haricot verts which was very tasty. For desert we split the tarte tatin. I gave this only 4 stars as the service began as excellent, but once the restaurant was full, we waited a very long time to have our plates removed, as if no one was sitting at out table. This place is expensive, but like before, I would return.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful dinner
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time and we finally did tonight. It was better than anticipated. The old school ambience, the efficient and professional service, and the food. Mon dieu. One has to try their sole meunière to know what that dish is supposed to taste like. The bill came to 380 euros but it was worth every penny. We’ll come here again whenever we are in Paris
Be the first to ReplyI had high expectations
This place is often labelled as the best fish restaurant in Paris, so I was looking forward to discovering it. I had probably had high expectations as well. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but when you come to Le Duc you look for an outstanding one. Service was good : well trained staff and quick delivery of the order. The raw seabass with truffle was excellent but then the fried squid was a bit dry/overcooked and oily. Same for the John Dory we ordered for 2: overcooked. And the side of caramelized chicory was too sweet. We left disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent and expensive seafood, skip the rest
Restaurant is located not very far from Montparnasse, in a quite area next to the Fondation Cartier. The dining room is fully lined with wood, which makes you feel like you've been invited in the captain's quarter on an ancient ship.
The main reason you come here is for the fish and seafood, absolutely delicious, fresh, precisely prepared and cooked - which is the least you can expect given the high prices. Limited but good selection of wines - they could carry more half-bottles.
The standard sidedish is venere (black) rice, which is also very good, but you are very much encouraged to take others, like baked carrots or fennel gratin, but nobody ever tells you that each extra sidedish is 12€ which is quite a steal.
Also, you can skip desserts. I'm ok with the idea of paying 20€ for a dessert, but it has to be something extraordinary, original and freshly prepared. Not the usual millefeuille, baba au rhum or apple pie, that has been waiting on a tray since the morning.
Finally, the service was technically professional but somewhat cold and tensed.
Not worth it!! Too expensive for what it is.
I always wanted to try this restaurant: very disappointing!! First greeted by an obnoxious maître d’.
My sole meunière was ok but all the rest was very average. My oysters were mediocre and the langoustines tasteless . You can find better places and cheaper in Paris.
