The exterior is unassuming. The interior is cozy and welcoming. The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. The service is warm and attentive, and the food is genuinely incredible. I quite seriously believe that tonight I had one of the best meals of my life. I arrived at 8:30pm on a Sunday evening, with no reservation. The place was fairly busy. I would estimate there to have been 50 people in the restaurant. The decor was gorgeous. Golds, royal purples, pastel blues, rich jades and deep maroon tones graced the walls, the furniture and even the tables. Melodic, nicely-volumed Moroccan music swept through the restaurant. A subtle tone of incense burning near the bar wafted through the air. I immediately got excited. This place seemed legit. We were greeted promptly, and despite the busy hour and having had no reservation, we (my brother and I) were given a cozy corner table within 15 minutes. While we waited for a space to free up, one of the two men working the floor asked if we'd like to see the menus and place our orders in advance of taking our seats. We felt this was extremely thoughtful of him, and we did just that. The moment we sat down we were poured a glass of water, and offered some complimentary light snacks that included some wonderfully simple, yet flavourful, spiced potatoes, carrots and olives. It was only a matter of moments before our first course arrived. A delicious chilled salad of roasted peppers and tomatoes. This dish was accompanied by some rustic breads which were made even tastier when dipped into the flavourful juices of the salad. Our main courses came swiftly after we finished our appetizer. We had two dishes: a caramelized-pineapple chicken tagine, and a chicken t'faya cinnamon couscous. The presentation of these dishes was exquisite. The chicken tagine was crowned with some sort of aromatic jam and roasted almonds. I'm not entirely sure what it was to be honest, but the aroma and taste was absolutely brilliant. The t'faya (I hope I'm spelling this right) was wonderfully aromatic as well. The fragrance of caramelized raisins, figs and cinnamon immediately tickled our noses. We ate these ones slow. Which isn't something I'm prone to doing. We savoured every bite, allowing our palettes the time to understand the intricacies of the dish. There were so many exciting cues to discover. I can't speak more highly of these dishes. Absolutely perfect. For dessert we shared a creme brulee (when in Paris) and the "house special": a very unique concoction of Avocado, nuts, honey, spices, and orange juice. Both dishes were a pleasant surprise. Not entirely what we imagined at all, but incredibly tasty. For finishers we had some flavoured coffees. They came piping hot, with notes of thyme, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and orange blossom dancing around the rim. These were powerful little brews. Extremely strong flavoured, rich and full of character. I've never tasted coffee like this anywhere in the world. This was a treat. Throughout the evening our servers were masterfully attentive. Despite serving 50 (or more) patrons both food and drinks, in addition to making said drinks them selves, neither of them missed a beat. They were absolutely wonderful and without provided us with some of the very best service we've ever received. I cannot say enough positive things about this place. If you're in Paris and you appreciate a masterfully crafted culinary experience, you must go to Le Sirocco. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy the pics!
