The escargot is to die for.
Service is always great. Food always good, cozy ambience.

Well, at least sort of. As you can see, I have returned, and while I did bring my own steak knife, I didn't need it as I had their small plate salmon after my usual escargots, and it was wonderful with frites, of course. Ha. And the service just keeps getting better with one staff member even welcoming me by name. Not much else to report, except that if you like their Cotes du Rhone, you can get it at Trader Joe's.
Be the first to ReplyThis little jam is in San Juan Capistrano and family owned.
The food is French inspired and delicious. French onion soup was authentic and the chicken and shrimp meals that my husband lie were excellent. The service was perfect-- attentive, but not overly attentive! They serve many wines and champagne, but not other drinks. We love this place and it has an outdoor area during nice weather..

You felt as you are in French restaurant in a small French town. I will highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFood was excellent in every way.
Ambiance was very European which made it very cozy and a change from the norm. Service was superb. Price was reasonable. All in all their management is doing an exquisite job. Will definitely go again and highly recommend it to others.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent continental food and attentive service.
Conveniently located in SJC. Delightful patio dining too.

Honestly, between the delicious food and the incredible service- I cannot find adequate adjectives to describe my experience. If you haven't been here, you absolutely need to visit L'Hirondelle

We recently came for a weekday dinner, and we enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. The restaurant is not big, cozy, but not packed. The servers were all casual, our waiter was wearing shorts so felt a little too relaxed for this type of dining, but we didn't mind much. Unfortunately, it was a special event for us, and when we arrived, no one was there to greet us. We had to walk to the back of the restaurant just to let them know we were waiting, which was for about 5 or so minutes, but we just assumed they are so small, and seemed that the host also served food and took care of other things. The food itself was not what we expected, we've had different French cuisine before and didn't expect the food to be so salty. We ordered the Beef bourguignon and the filet of Sole and it just seemed like too much salt was put in both dishes, it made it difficult to eat parts of each dish. Still, the staff made an effort to make our special night memorable so despite some of the negatives I mentioned, the positives (good service and atmosphere) outweigh them, making for a good experience, so much so that we would consider coming back and ordering something else just to see if it was that particular night.

Delicious Service, Ambience and oh the French Onion Soup is so yummy. I have gone here since they opened and always will.

has great portions being a French styled restaurant
Be the first to ReplyGlad I found this place since there doesn't seem to be many
Glad I found this place since there doesn't seem to be many great French restaurants in Orange County. Atmosphere is warm and inviting. Has an Old World Parisian feel to it with wood paneling and antique touches. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. The servers were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. For appetizer, we had the shrimp cocktail and french onion soup which were excellent. Shrimp are enormous and cocktail sauce had some grated horseradish on top in case you wanted to up the spice level. I also like that they offer petite plates to accommodate smaller appetites or sharing. We got the beef bourguignon petite plate and volcano lamb shank entree. Very pleased with both dishes and especially enjoyed the demi-glaze on the shank which I sopped up with some warm toasty rolls. We skipped dessert because we were full already but will definitely try them next time!

Food. Service. Ambiance. Excellent all around.Intimate. Romantic even, says my wife. Fresh flowers on the table. We each had a Starter (Mushroom Farci, Shrimp Cocktail) and then a Petite Plate (Beef Bourguignon, Filet Mignon) and it was the perfect amount of food. I will add that my filet was not hot. Tasty and tender, but lukewarm at best; cold in places. My guess is that the bernaise is refrigerated and quickly cooled the poor little petite filet. I asked for it on the side, but it came on the steak.)The service was timely however. The owner even came to our table to help with wine selection and made a nice recommendation.Great coffee too! Asked what it was but waitress had no information to share. If you're looking for something different and delicious without breaking the bank, go here.
Be the first to ReplyI'm paraphrasing a review I read before dining here.
"We don't know why L'Hirondelle isn't on our favourite list" other than we tend to hug the coast for some unqualified reason.Delicious non standard dishes, the French have had it nailed for decades, thankfully L'Hirondelle is helping to maintain the heritage of French cuisine in California. My friend said, "try the house red ($9.50) you'll be surprised", I was!Petite/small dishes menu that almost mirrors the main course menu which will be perfect on many occasions. From the main menu our party enjoyed. Escargot in garlic butter, French onion soup, stuffed farci mushrooms, rack of lamb, roast duck, beef Bourguignon, and Shrimp Maison, all were excellent (loved my lamb!). Efficient and friendly service abounds with the family owner clearly keeping an eye on operations. The restaurant located in an historic listed building with beams and fire place opposite the famous Mission was there when we arrived in 1981 hopefully the next generation will maintain the delicious standards.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend! Make sure to make reservations.
We went on a Friday evening Food: delicious; we had the peppered filet mignon (med rare) and house salad (not pictured) & volcano lamb shank and clam chowder (not pictured). FYI: if you're not a fan of dill, make sure to say no dill on the house salad. - it was delicious but I preferred no peppered sauce on my steak but one of the best steak I ever had- the lamb was cooked to perfection- both entrees came with sidesDrink: house red wine paired well with my steak Service: goodParking: behind the restaurant around the corner otherwise street parking

Amazing place! Quaint and warm as soon as you walk through the door. I had the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. Every course was better than the first- highly recommended.

Fantastic! I have been here a few times now and each time it has been wonderful. Sunday brunch on the quaint patio did not disappoint. The eggs Benedict was absolute perfection and the staff was very attentive. Yesterday I had the salmon sandwich with melted Brie red onions and hollandaise sauce. It was absolutely delicious. We finished with coffee and the flourless chocolate torte which was amazing. This is my parents favorite place in town and I can certainly see why!

Everyone goes above and beyond to accommodate you in every possible way. we love this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyI attended a birthday luncheon here yesterday.
To be honest, I haven't been here for over 20 years and I don't know why I stopped coming? The service was fantastic; they attended to every need. The food was pleasantly prepared and quite yummy. I had the Atlantic salmon sandwich on a fresh baguette with melted brie cheese, red onions, capers, fresh dill, topped with a delicious hollandaise sauce; it was to die for! The birthday girl had the Atlantic salmon entrée. The Ambiance is a bit outdated and worn in some areas hence; 4 stars. We had ten entrées and it was too much for me to take pictures of all of them but everybody 'raved' about their dining experience. I will DEFINITELY not wait to come back with my husband.
Be the first to ReplyIt has been far too long since we were last here.
We will never make that mistake again! We had a fantastic meal, with a terrific staff. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner. You can't go wrong in San Juan Capistrano with this choice.
Be the first to ReplyBeyond amazing food, service and atmosphere.
The petite plates were the perfect size. And oh my - the French onion soup! Come hungry. Take time to enjoy the food.

The best hidden secret in San Juan Capistrano! The ambiance is amazing for a date night or Sunday brunch in the patio. The food is delicious. I absolutely love the Salmon salad! The escargot is the beat I've had, the mushroom escargot is just as good! The kids get the in-house made chicken tenders and fries. Our go-to spot!!
Be the first to ReplyHad brunch here on a Sunday, and had a great time.
The restaurant was really quiet and nice to have a conversation. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it. Definitely will be returning in the future.
