AN OUTSTANDING FIND
Do you know how to get to Culver City when in the Los Angeles area? Then look for LUKSHON without hesitation. Bright, modern and exciting, this restaurant offers a very successful combination of Asian and California cuisines in perfect harmony. Should I extoll the wonderful taste of their Hawaiian Butterfish, Uni Toast or the Sichuan Dumplings and Chinese Eggplant dishes? The Crispy Fish as a main dish was what you would expect to see and taste in some of the best Hong Kong or Shanghai restaurants. Accompanied by Crab Rice and Chinese Broccoli, this meal reached for the stars. A Nikolaihof dry white Riesling was the outstanding pairing for wine and enhanced all flavors while pricing was generally on the middle-high side. Excellent and personable service completed this really unexpected experience. Do not miss it!

With a longing glance at Father's Office and Pasta Sisters, we entered Lukshon. The place is dark but a nice looking room. Service was prompt and helpful though I would have appreciated being offered a fork and a clean plate after a messy app. Lobster Banh Mi was just ok, didn't feel like it added much to the meal and the bread was filling. Wife loved the Thai Clam Chowder, I thought it was pretty good.
We got the fried whole fish and it was cooked really well and the green sauce, soy sauce, and pickles added a lot. Grilled vegetables were ok, and the black rice was ok. We had the szechuan dumplings as well and these were delish and the sauce was great, at least as good as anything I've had at Din Tai Fung.
So my "hits" were the fish and the dumplings, and my wife said it was the fish and the chowder. Misses for me were the banh mi and not getting a clean plate after apps. I did appreciate that they got rid of the 4% surcharge. I would have enjoyed seeing a fixed price menu, maybe it'll return. LA Times seems to really love this place for many years but if you read Jonathan Gold's review in LA Weekly, he was a bit ambivalent. Could this place survive in the Valley? Maybe a less formal spinoff, like Trois Mec did with Petit Trois?
Should you go? If you have the chance, stick with the whole fish and maybe a few sides. It is a change of pace, but in this town you have deep choices for Asian between Chinese, Japanese, Korean BBQ, Thai, Vietnamese, and "fusion" places like Cassia. Maybe this was innovative 10 years ago and certainly not too many fancy places are offering a whole fried fish, but seems like the sides need to hit refresh.
Interesting Asian
Just different isn't always a good thing, but here, the rather simple and small menu just directs you to what really matters. A little coaching from our server, and voila, a very good meal materializes. Love the whole crusty fish...yes served as a bit of a hardened semicircle with head, tails and bones, but easy to eat and not offensive (if you care about these things) to see the actual fish. Really liked the black rice side. Had Brussels sprouts as a starter. Busy, small. Good service. Good food. Pleasant ambiance.

The food was different and tasty, nice outdoor seating, service was a little slow...Location good with free parking and other shops nearby to browse

Me and my wife visiting from India celebrated my son’s birthday for a dinner at this place on my daughter in law’s recommendation . Wow it turned out be a great meal . Small menu of small and large plates promoted a tasty stuff. The cod was melt in mouth and so was pork belly . Not too vegetarian friendly, but they organized a good curry noodles for my wife who is vegan.

So we went from being medium hungry to being drawn in by our terrific server's appetizing and must have menu recitation, so we wound up with some crazy micro toast (yes, bread in an Asian venue) which was a biteful but tasty, then shrimp in some crazy sauce for what seemed like an exorbitant price (I think $29 or $26??) for 2 shrimp, but excellent flavor and great presentation, then crab fried rice (light and delicate and mild and a great complement to the texture and flavors of the other selections), then the whole fried fish which had a very cool presentation, and even for me, always looking for a filleted option, had no problem here, and was terrific. Our server also suggested a nice French gamay, which also was just the right choice. So surrender to the wisdom of the server, and have a great meal! Unexpected pleasure.

Sit outside as the acoustics inside are awful as I could overhear my neighbors conversation versus my own with my date across the table. No option for sitting side-by-side for a more intimate conversation as the tables are too small and crammed in.
First, the tasting menu my partner desired as he is a chef on our home was not permitted unless two of us had it. I don't eat beef or pork and there are no substitutions. Sadly, my friends were there as a foursome and the two men wanted the tasting menu and were denied because all four would not be joining in. Crazy rule. Our waiter continued to attempt to upsell us with every new item we would order. Again, annoying and unnecessary.
The lobster roll and butter fish were not exceptional. I expected excellence and it was mediocre at best.
Delicious, strong flavored, creative food.
Order the Butterfish it was incredible. Great attentive service, very friendly. Excellent food, not everything was outstanding but overall excellent, memorable, and beautiful place. The whole fish was an excellent dish. Recommended!

Really great vibe. Prices are up there but that never stopped me ...lol. Every once in a while we will go here. Food is wonderful. Wine is a bit up there too, might bring your own if they allow a corking fee. Go for it, very nice ambiance and great for a treat for yourself, family or a significant other. Staff are great too. oh and ANYTHING on the menu will be the bomb.
