Great food and great service
Had a fabulous meal - we chose to share starters and main courses as the choice was too good just to have one thing. The beef and the octopus were both delicious, and when the cheesecake is as tasty as it was who needs a choice of dessert ? (Beware the serving is large so best to share !). The service was great and we never felt pressured to rush through the meal. Oh and there’s a great choice of wines too. I’d not been here before but will definitely visit again.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible & Arrogant Service
Have visited this restaurant approx 3 years ago
Everything was great, from food to service
Yesterday have repeated the visit
Is it the Covid implications?
Is it the economy?
Is it the general mood?
Am not sure….but what I am sure of, is service was absolutely terrible
Must visit
Excellent Food, Friendly and efficient staff, reasonable cost.
The outstanding item was the Ox cheek, just amazing.
A very enjoyable lunch, thank you.
Best fish I have ever eaten anywhere
This was my first time at Lurra.
I was told they had exceptional beef.
We ordered a whole John Dory (fish) between us.
My host had courgettes and chips; I had a tomato salad.
All were excellent.
But the fish was DIVINE.
A whole, grilled fish, on the bone, cooked on the open grill TO PERFECTION.
Thick fillets of delicious, white fish came easily off the bone.
The Basque Cheesecake looked divine but we were full to Pussy’s Bow! 😺
Don't miss it!
We ate there for the first time. The crab appetizer was excellent, although I found a shell piece in it. The crocketes were fine and the bone marrow tbe best if you fancy it. As per the main course the 14 years old aged meat was the best. I keep the cheese plateau for the end, not in the menu, the best, it accompanied the wine perfectly, and last but not least the cheese cake was poetry.
I tip for you: try the first red wine on the list which is the house one. A perfect Rioha Tempranilo.
Overall don't miss it, because even the service was outstanding!
Evening date night for a couple at Basque restaurant
Excellent service, delicious food, good ambience at most tables. Front area best for romantic evening for a couple, back area more for rowdy fun with friends. Interesting but limited Basque inspired selection of food and drink. Would have liked a smidge more seasoning on the Octopus. Fave was of course the famous Basque Burnt Cheesecake- mwah!
Be the first to ReplyVery enjoyable evening with family and fantastic food.
9 of us went to Lurra for a family birthday.
The reviews stated that the food was over priced etc. We ordred a selection of starters to share with the help of the waiter and then a selection of main courses including 3 steak and and octopus. We shared 3 basque cheesecakes which rounded the night off perfectly.
All of the food was beautifully cooked and the staff were attentive without being over bearing. Everything about the night was enjoyable and we definitely look forward to visiting again the near future.
It was approx £90 per head including drinks and pudding.
Worth it!
4 of us went to this restaurant and spent £700ish. For that we drank a LOT of fantastic wine and ate some very special food. Worth every penny.

We visited based on a recommendation and honestly wish I could give 6 stars. Menu is simple and everything was exceptionally well cooked and so tasty. The service was spot on and if you go please try the baked cheese cake it is heaven on a plate. Not cheap , but worth every penny for an exceptional meal

Dinner for 5, overall it was a lovely evening and we all enjoyed the food. There were some menu choices that are not balanced.
Starters: Ordered the Sardine (for 4), Pan con Tomato (for 1) and Croquettes (for 1).
A board of 4 sardines arrived, a board of 4 Croquettes arrived, 2 plates of Pan con Tomato, a plate with 4 Croquettes and a bowl of fries. We assumed 3 more sardine boards would come but they didn't, when queried did waitress explained it was a single sardine as it was the biggest and best in the world. To be fair the menu does say 'Sardine'. 1 Sardine is not a starter, menu could have been clearer.
The extra Pan con Tomato was a mistake and the fries... who knows.
The Pan con Tomato needs seasoning as it's bland.
2 beef, octopus and asparagus ordered for main, cutlery setup but 2 octopus & 1 steak delivered, why does no one spot these things. It didn't take long to rectify. We hadn't been asked how the beef should be cooked, it came rare.
Wine poured quite vigorously which mixes the sediment, changed a couple of glasses. Sometimes the waiter brought a glass to taste each fresh bottle of wine, and sometimes not, unfortunately the one they just poured was heavily corked which wasted the wine already in the glass.
No choice on dessert, it was baked cheesecake.
This is a fairly expensive restaurant and these little issues shouldn't happen.
