Disappointing, we were a party of 4 adults and 3 children
Disappointing, we were a party of 4 adults and 3 children at brunch for Mother's Day. Very limited menu. I ordered the Pork collar sammy, big mistake. My bun was burnt black and it was just over cooked and tasteless. Please don't serve burnt food it just demonstrates how non caring a chef and restaurant are. The croquettes were mushy and bland. The cornbread was delicious. The tamale plate was very good and the french toast was very good and liked by all. Very good mimosas. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is fairly new and I was so excited to go.
We managed to get a reservation for 530 right at opening and we're promptly seated. The entrance to the restaurant is where you see the name sign and the inside where the hostess is looks kind of like a hotel lobby. We got the truffle bites, octopus, madeleines, and soufflé and the server also brought out crème brûlée for us on the house! Instead of bread, they gave chips with a creamy dip that paired very nicely - I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely get the madeleines and soufflé! Next time I'm here. I'll definitely order some more real entrees, but I was very content with the meal that I got. I will be back!

I have to say I am amazed by the food and service. There are not many items on the menu but we were both satisfied with all the items we ordered including the drinks! The bartender also kept checking on us and provided his suggestions. I actually felt like seating in a Michelin restaurant and am hoping that Madre will be selected one day! I wish I could give this 5 stars because the food was so good but the rest of the restaurant was terrible. The entrance is in the lobby of an apartment building. It was really strange and we had to wait in the lobby until our reservation table was ready. The waiter had no idea what was on the menu and barely came to our table. Do not come here if you want a nice setting or a date. Just come for the food. Not sure why this was on Michelin guide...
Be the first to ReplyProbably the best brunch I've ever had.
The cornbread was simultaneously tender, sweet, savory, and had the most delightful punch of jalapeno. The ceviche was so flavorful with the mix of nutty sunflower seeds, chili, coconut, and lime creating so many beautiful textures and flavor combinations. The french toast was light and airy (seemed like it was made with Japanese milk bread) and the caramelized bananas were wonderful. The pork collar was tender and appropriately fatty with an excellent bun and the pineapple, sauce, and peppers bringing some freshness. Even the papas were also delightfully crisp and smoky. On top if it all, service and atmosphere were top notch start to finish.
Be the first to ReplyWow, what a rare find.
I visited my daughter in NYC, and she took me and everything we ordered was so good.

After seeing Insta stories about this restaurant they sure didn't disappoint. I went here to celebrate my birthday and had such a wonderful time! The fluke ceviche was amazing and I still cant stop thinking about it. Loved the croquetas and the octopus as well. To top it off the host who was super lovely and surprised me and my family with creme brulee at the end.

After so many reels recommending their brunch, I decided to give it a try. Let me start by saying I was sadly not impressed by their French toast. I recommend to order a la mode to add some moisture because is super dry on the inside. Having said that - everything else was good! We ordered the dry aged burger which was superb! I've been to burger spots who don't get medium temp - this was perfection all through and so delicious. I would go back for the burger for sure. I did not take a picture but we also ordered their black truffle croquettes and the cornbread Madelines which were favorites. I did not like their sweet potato agnolotti - I can't really put a finger on why but I'll just leave it at sage is not for everyone. The service was good; some of the teammates were nice. The place is somewhat small but cozy and comfortable to sit and chat while you enjoy good food at a good price ratio I would say.
Be the first to ReplyCool, vibey spot with a funky fun menu in Greenpoint BK.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were first seated by the door but they were great about moving us because it was pretty cold. Overall the dishes were very good but I have to say I somehow expected more. Compared to some of the other spots in the area, I just wasn't totally blown away.
Be the first to ReplyOverall fantastic spot.
The decor is stylish, spacious and the servers are friendly. A majority of the food was delicious! I think there were just some small improvements that could've been made. The biscuit under the eggs Benny were so difficult to cut through with a knife and fork that we were both sawing at it to get a bite! This was also a little bit too salty for our taste. The oysters were good quality but the mignonette they placed melted into the liquids and you couldn't really taste it. The fluke ceviche was delicious, love a good Leche de tigre. The cornbread madelines were good too but a little heavy so the whipped butter really balanced it out. The French toast is HUGE so keep that in mind. We struggled to finish it but it was good. On Sundays it's all day happy hour, so oysters are 2$ each! And there's draft beer and roses and spritz to complete your brunch. Enjoy!

It's the service for me! My friends came earlier and raved about the oysters so we came back... they were out of oysters we were bummed... they borrowed oyster from the restaurant across the street!!! And they were absolutely perfect! Amazing service and amazing food!

Wow! This place is a gem! Came by last weekend and was blown away by the service and quality of this place. The hubby and I sat at the bar and tried a lot of the dishes on the small menu and were very impressed. Croquettes we're flavorful and the cauliflower really heightened their flavours. The ceviche was beyond delicious, so happy it was recommended. Chicken was extremely flavorful and the tamale was great. Everything else was a hit and we will be returning to try the rest of the menu. Only thing that we were a little disappointed in the soufflé but that was because of our impossibly high expectations. Drinks too were great! We tried the Sharp Corner, Hacienda, and Bangalore Banger before going off menu. All the drinks proved complex albeit very well balanced and came out quickly. The Bangalore was a showstopper. We had a great conversation about the different techniques used with the bartender and found it to be very informative. We appreciated the culinary concepts applied to the cocktails. Service was excellent and attentive. We never needed to ask for anything. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we will return soon! Bravo Madre! Food 5/5 Drinks 5/5 Ambience 4/5

Took a friend here that was in town from overseas and we were not disappointed. The fluke ceviche might have been my favorite but it's hard to pick. We also got the madeleines to start and then split the octopus and the agnolotti. Of course we got the soufflé for dessert. Every dish was truly unique and excellent. The service was excellent as well. The bartender was friendly without being overbearing. The servers all knew the dishes and explained things as they arrived. And the hostesses ensured everything was good and we were sated and happy. My only slight gripe is the ambience could be a bit nicer. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but the environment just doesn't feel as nice as the food tastes. We sat at the bar, which will never be on a par with a table, but the tables appeared to be about the same. Ambience aside, I'll certainly go back and will take out-of-towners here as a special treat when they come in. Can't wait to return.

Wow -- I am blown away by the customer service and quality of food at this place. This is one of the places in NY you don't have to worry about what's on the menu, it's all decadent and prepared perfectly. On top of that, the crew personally came by table-to-table to make sure everything was to our liking. This place is PERFECT for date nights, birthdays, and so much more. Will be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyFar exceeded expectations.
.. very memorable meal. Every single app, entree, desert, cocktail and even cappuccino was first rate... Service was exceptional. Visited with a party of 5 and we ordered many dishes to share and without exception everything we tried was fantastic... nothing disappointed. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious! We three arrived early on a Saturday evening
Delicious! We three arrived early on a Saturday evening without reservations. Although they were almost filled, John Carlos sat us in a lower level lounge, corner table- jokingly referred to as the "VIP table." Very comfortable. The whole place is very comfortable. We ordered menu cocktails and then an appetizer and three entrees. Each item had its unique taste. Papas bravas are addicting (Careful! Don't fill up!) Then chef sent out an amuse bouche- a taste of soup. Cappalletti- wild mushrooms, pecorino, & egg. The monk fish with mussels & mushrooms in a red sauce so good, I cannot describe it adequately. And lastly, the chicken with a sauce that is also too good to describe. Get co-owner Steven to tell you about the multi-day process to make it. Don't think twice. Madre is one of my favorite NY places to go!

When I tell you I pocketed this menu so fast. From the first bite I could tell I was going to forever want to look longingly at the text on that recycled paper and reminisce on flavors passed. Oyesters. Oisters? Oysters. My favorite dish but also, how do you pick a jewel among treasures?Overall: Big Yum.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food, service, staff.
This is my 2nd time here and it did not disappoint. Happy hour was an added bonus on top of all the good food. Can't wait to be back when it gets a little warmer again so we can sit outside again.

Be the first to ReplyOur table ordered a variety of the menu.
We all shared and each tasted great. I will say I would certainly come back for the mock tail we ordered, the fluke ceviche (truly all our favorites if we came back and had to order only one dish)- it's a mixture of flavor, and the soufflé. You can't go wrong with anything there but depending on your taste preference you'll certainly feel what speaks to you. We ordered the corn bread Madeline's (comes with four) and we each had one. They're served warm and the butter is divine. Highly recommend that! I'm a huge fan of octopus, though I don't think I would order it again. Ceviche definitely my number one here. The fluke was amazing! Honestly didn't want to share. The octopus was still tasty but it's best for those who like a more BBQ and crispy tentacle. I think a squeeze of lemon would have done the trick for me. The sauces on the plate were delicious. The pork was savory and the sauce sweet. Loved the part of the meat toward the fatty area the best. The stuffed cabbage was a nice addition. The agnolotti was fantastic, I recommend taking a spoon and scooping up the sauce with the ravioli and eating all at once. The flavors are seamless. For desert we tried the pot de creme (veryyyy thick and rich, I personally wouldn't order again but if you love a thick chocolate that's extremely rich, you would like it- for myself I'm used to a more "fluffy" mousse like pot de crème so this was not what I was expecting). The Calamansi sorbet was phenomenal ( I enjoy tart/tangy flavors), definitely a must try.The soufflé was warm and melted in my mouth, the mixture of the ingredients and taste was divine. The chefs know what they're doing!(Read some 1 star reviews: just want to say our experience was great but I do understand how some dishes might undershine others, so order a variety. Market Salad was very simple but it was nice to share and cleanse palette before other dishes arrived. Our group is from Greece, UK, and NY - and we landed here on a whim because I saw an image of the ceviche. I didn't read reviews prior. I usually order ceviche in America and find it quite bland or unthrilling. This place you can't go wrong, it's done differently than anywhere else. I do understand how not enough timely waiting on a table could affect the feel- it did take a bit to get orders going but if you have good company then you'll be ok. Perhaps they just need a bit more staffing- but basing the review on the food- great. We also enjoyed our waiter who was kind and friendly but clearly jumping from different tables. Remember they do their best to do their job, if you need more attendance let them know instead of staying quiet the entire time. )
Be the first to ReplyAfter a second visit I am very let down by the experience.
The service was so bad to the point it affected my opinion heavily. The man who was our server was too busy on his phone at the end of the bar. We had to ask him twice for the glass of wine we ordered and he came back with literally just that...an empty glass. We figured someone else was coming to pour it...no it was just him, and he took his sweet time to come back and pour the glass he took forever to bring to the table in the first place. The most helpful wait staff were the ones not even assigned to us! We even had to wait forever for water, and for our drink orders to made. It wasn't even busy. Every time he neglected our table, we could turn and see him busy texting. I was looking forward to making this a recurring date night spot, but moving forward, I will try elsewhere in the area.

Tonight was mine and my husbands first night living in greenpoint - we were looking for an amazing restaurant in the area and saw that madre had great reviews and a very thoughtful and unique menu. We decided to give it a try and we had the absolute BEST experience - it far exceeded our expectations and was one of the most special dinners we have ever had - thanks to the amazing food and staff. They treated us like family - we met the general manager Giancarlo and the chef who came to our table and introduced themselves. Armando was our waiter who took the time to get to know us and explained all of the ingredients and components of the dishes we were served. We ordered the bravas, market salad, octopus and the pasta dish. We also tried the vegetable soup and the banana soufflé which was incredible, and had a great drink which was the perfect balance of every flavor. 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI definitely won't be coming back here anytime soon.
I arrived early to my reservation. Being that the hostess table is just outside the restaurant, I took a seat in the hotel lobby. Didn't take long for a few waitresses to gather with the hostess to discuss which guests they liked and didn't like. For the price of the food, you don't get much in terms of quality. There are better Tapas places to go to for much better food. Surprised being rated as a 4 1/2 star restaurant with only 129 reviews seemed suspicious but once I started getting the emails offering discounted tables, the picture starts to become clear. Save your time and money.
Be the first to ReplyMy current favorite restaurant in Greenpoint.
My GF and I always pass by the restaurant and we decided to give it a try last month, and so glad we did. They get relatively busy so I would recommend a reservation. This spot has been consistently good every time I've gotten it, make sure you try this spot ASAP!!!Food:Cornbread Madelines: These are to die for, simply put "a must order". It was pillowy, buttery, and the right texture. Easily an item we think about daily. Papas Bravas: These were good, but nothing amazing. I enjoyed them, so if I was craving potatoes as an appetizer, I would order them, otherwise easy pass. Croquetas: These were simply amazing. The portion was a little small, but it more than makes up for it in flavor. Another great option for your starter. Chicken Liver Mousse: I was surprised I like this one so much. It is definitely like a mousse so keep that in mind when ordering. It does have strong accents of hibiscus. Agnolotti: This is currently my favorite pasta dish in all of NYC so far. What I thought would be a weird mix of flavors, actually blends together to make the best pasta dish. The butternut squash is not overpowering and provides the right texture to complete the dish. The pasta was well cooked. I think about this pasta daily. Kurobuta pork: This was really amazing as well. Its a little small for an entree but makes up for it in flavor. Pot de Crème: If you love chocolate, look no further, this is the perfect dessert. Affogato: Didn't know how I'd feel about crème fraîche gelato, but it was surprisingly really well done. Not sour at all, and mixed perfectly with the espresso. MADRE's Seasonal Souffé: Our Souffé of the month was a grape flavor I believe and even though I'm not big on fruit desserts, the Souffé is too good to pass up on. I would highly highly recommend if you order any one dessert, make this your choice. Dead Beets Bleed Gold: This is my current favorite cocktail. I love mezcal, so if you do as well, this is the drink for you. I'm not a fan of beets but this drink is not overpowering in any one flavor. Atmosphere / Service:The service here was amazing. The interior is super cozy and just feels comfortable.I really really love this restaurant and it stands as my favorite in Greenpoint. I'll definitely be coming back.
