I returned to Maison today with my spouse.
We were led to the extra long communal table, and I grabbed the head chair, safe distance from anyone who might be offended at my offensive affect. The decor still drives me nuts, but the food is better than ever. The price for the four course+ lunch is now 55 Euros per person, but it is well worth the "raise in fees." We started out with a light, cold tuna and kiwi starter. It was infinitely refreshing. Next came wonderfully sweet scallops with a side of Jerusalem Artichokes. One dish that "blew my mind" was the mashed potatoes with mussels. That's right, and it was delicious. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of pigeon, or any pink meat. That's what came next, and my wife said it was good, but a bit rare. A perfectly cooked mullet was followed by dessert, a chestnut swirl of culinary magic. Our meal was simply fantastic!

I've eaten at dozens of Michelin 2 and 3 star restaurants in Europe and the US, and I can't remember when I've had a better meal. We ate there on Friday night, and it was so amazing we talked our way into another reservation Sunday night. An almost entirely different menu on the second night, as amazing as the first night. The food is imaginative, without feeling forced, and impeccably executed. The ingredients are all top notch, and the chef lets them show. A completely idiosyncratic and very reasonably priced wine list, which forces you to rely on the sommelier. This is a good thing because you wind up with wonderful wines you never heard of. We learned that the staff were all friends from before the restaurant opened, and it shows. The vibe is warm and friendly. If you love food and are going to only one restaurant in Paris, this should be it.

Super sad that I never ate at Clown Bar as I have only heard great things when it opened. Chef Sota now has a new place and it's a stunner. A few years of anticipation because he cooked both in Napa and NYC as previews and then got delayed. Finally opened, it's beyond what I expected from the previous tasting. What's even crazier is the price performance value is excellent for lunch. Tastes, portions, delicacy...it hit all the right notes for me. If they keep executing like this after being open for a month or so, I think a Michelin star will be well deserved. The food is there but don't be fooled by that and the façade as the service is very warm and comfortable. A great addition to a jam packed food scene that is Paris
Be the first to ReplyWow, this meal was AMAZING.
Probably one of the best meals I've had in months, if not this year. I heard about the Chef Sota Atsumi's new restaurant opening and knew I had to go!We went for lunch which was 5 course for 50 EUR, and added the wine pairing for 40 EUR. I will say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the wine pairing and the pours were not generous, but the meal more than made up for this. The meal started with tartelettes done three ways: white beans; crab and onion; anchovy and corn. These were amazing and the tarts just melted in your mouth. The next course was sea bream with tomatoes and wine soaked peaches - so balanced and perfect. For the third selection, we had cuttlefish with mushrooms (this was amazing) and also wrapped in stem lettuce.Just when I thought there was no way the meal could get better, the main course surpassed every expectation. We had pork two ways: a pork loin with creamed bone marrow and plums. I could've swore I had died and gone to heaven. It was incredible. The second part of the course was pork and mussels wrapped in kale - also delicious, but the pork loin with creamed bone marrow was the true star.We ended the meal with a delightful pavlova with lychee and beets, topped with a pistachio gelato. Even though I'm not a huge fan of beets, I enjoyed this light and crisp pavlova. At the end of the meal, we wanted to see if we could go back the next day - alas they were closed for a private event. Bottom line - I'd skip Frenchie and Septime (both good, but considering how hard it is to get a reservation, I wouldn't go again) and go here!
