Amazing Experience at Mana!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Mana. The staff were very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The whole journey from the minute we stepped through the door was remarkable. The food was another level. Each course presented impeccably, the flavours complimenting each other. Truly fantastic!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for family and friends

Be the first to ReplyBad Manners at Mana
I attended Mana alongside my husband on Thursday 21st July to celebrate our 7-year wedding anniversary. As instructed beforehand, we arrived punctually at the time of the booking (7pm) and left some four-and-a-quarter hours later (at 11.15pm). As the star-rating afforded above suggests, the experience, which should have been a romantic and memorable affair, unfortunately turned out to be anything but, and it is disappointing to report that we departed feeling quite upset. However, the sour taste left in our mouths had nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of the food, which, by and large, was good. Plates were flavoursome and presented to a high standard, and whilst the desserts were somewhat underwhelming, there was nevertheless a large amount of culinary skill on display. No, what let the evening down, I’m sorry to say, was the appalling, discourteous service we received. As mentioned previously, the meal took upwards of 4 hours to complete. Now, I’m all for a Tasting Menu unfolding across the course of an evening – by design, that is how it should be – but when there are increasingly lengthy gaps between courses, during which both your wine glass and water tumbler are left empty – you start to wonder if something has perhaps gone awry. We waited well over an hour between our main dish and the palate cleanser that finally followed, which we hesitantly flagged up with the waitress at the time. She apologised curtly and advised that it was customary to allow half an hour or so to elapse between the aforementioned courses, though conceded that things were running significantly behind schedule due to a combination of the restaurant being short-staffed and tonight also seeing the launch of a new menu. The staffing issue I can sympathise with, particularly in the current climate, but debuting a new menu doesn’t wash with me as a mitigating factor, at least not when you’re spending in excess of £650 on dinner for two. Such a hefty price-tag warrants perfection, with no disparity or fluctuation between any given evening’s dinner service. Manor isn’t your typical establishment, offering three courses for £50 a head; it aspires to a higher plain and must therefore be judged accordingly against the standards it imposes. Subpar service I can forgive, but not in this context and at this cost. But, I doubt I would have taken to TripAdvisor to vent my frustration were it not for what happened next. As I said, I don’t think a new menu is an acceptable excuse for keeping customers waiting well over an hour between courses, but hey-ho, we’d have taken it on the chin, settled up and left, albeit feeling a little disgruntled perhaps. We had a round of drinks upon arrival and, yes, waving these as an apology gesture would have gone a long way, but, at the end of the day, what really ruined the evening was the response we received, both from the waitress and the Head Chef, upon paying the bill. We reiterated how four-and-a-quarter hours was an awfully long time to spend at dinner, particularly given the extensive wait-times that came later on. The waitress became instantly defensive and stubbornly rebuked our assertions that there had been any such wait-time, a complete U-turn on her part given she’d previously acknowledged that there’d been a hold-up. She then went on to shift the blame over to us, stating that we should have made her aware of any delays… um, I think you’ll find we did! The sudden change in attitude surprised and rattled us. We made to respond, which resulted in the Head Chef coming over to the table. He claimed that he saw no issue, and the absolute most we’d been waiting was 15 minutes, with both he and the waitress arguing that it had been nowhere like as long as an hour and what we were saying was not true. The chef was aggressive and intimidating. He said there was no way there would be any kind of refund (to be clear, at no point had we asked for such a thing; we simply wanted recognition of the below-par service, and, by this point, an apology for being told we were in the wrong for alleging over an hour’s delay). The chef said that we had received ‘the product’, and therefore that was the end of it. A shame that he feels that way; the ‘product’ (the food) is certainly the most important ingredient of a restaurant such as Manor, but it’s by no means the only component and nor does it excuse shortcomings elsewhere. When you sit down for a lavish Tasting Menu, the flow of the evening, the seamless service, is part and parcel of the overall experience and a big part of why we enjoy – and save up for - these fine dining packages. They are a real treat, a luxury, and to come away feeling disrespected, accused, hurt and offended is not what you expect or pay for, regardless of how good ‘the product’ may be. The waitress was stood at my shoulder, brandishing the card machine. In the end, I swiped to pay, stood up and left, deciding, since I felt very uncomfortable, that I just wanted to get out of there. If you’re in Manchester and want great food *and* great service, do yourself a favour and book in at WOOD. Sadly, Mana only delivers in the former category. When it comes to the latter, sadly, it’s very much lacking.

Awesome from start to finish. Great design, friendly passionate team, awesome flavours, innovative dishes, good wine list. Enjoyed it so much we’ve booked to go back soon.
Be the first to ReplyBest Michelin we have been, fantastic taste of sea, forest and land in a relaxed, intimate environment!
My husband and I have visited a number of Michelin & Guides but Mana by far has been our best experience! I swayed with writing each course and lots of pics, but I think that would ruin the magic…. 10 courses, an aperitif, two canapés, two and half hours of just explosion of flavour! The menu is split into three sections, sea, land and forest and my word it’s amazing. You don’t get the menu until the end (trust me this makes it so much more special to just trust the process) and the chefs come out and explain each dish to you as-well as being perfectly seated so you can watch the brigade hard at work. This meal was an experience not just a meal. There were ingredients that I wouldn’t usually eat and was a bit nervous, however these turned out to be the best courses and two courses in particular top two things I have ever eaten!! I cannot fault Mana, so just addressing some of the reviews highlighting disappointed that they had to come on time, there is a very small lounge area that can’t accommodate lots of people, so don’t worry about being 15/20 mins early- just turn up on designated time, it will make sense when you are in. The price for everything you get was very fair and gratuity was included in the price. Drinks list was great, great cocktails and excellent wine list! The waiting staff and chefs were super friendly and very helpful! Mana is like nowhere I have ever eaten or will eat again, and it was a night we will absolutely never forget! Thank you for making it a magical birthday
Be the first to ReplyAn experience of creativity and technical brilliance but at a cost
Our curtain call was at 7pm. As we entered the theatre we were met & welcomed with a friendly smile. We sat in the lounge and ordered 2 x glasses of English Sparkling Wine. We were offered Celeriac & Lemon Tea which was more like a soothing cup of soup than a tea very delicious. Next came Hors d'oeuvres of Grilled Carrot also Duck liver with Hazlenut, Parsley and Juniper. We were then moved to our table via a visit to the pass where the creative team is working away preparing for their time in the spotlight. An appetizer of Ceps Artichoke and Pilsner is enjoyed before continuing on to our table which is set facing the stage. Each course (act) thereafter arrives with both theatre and grace. Louet-Feisser Oyster, Cured Mackerel and Onion Flowers, Scottish Langoustine Tail, Devonshire Blue Mussels. All delivered by the individual creators who explain the delicacy and technical intricacies of each complex course. After the seafood comes Vegetables & Meat courses including Potato, Beef Carpaccio, Cumbrian Chicken but not as we know it. It is Dehydrated, Aerated, Acidulated to mention just a few. For the final curtain we are offered Salted Butter Ice Cream with Honey and Woodruff absolutely delicious. Only one dessert course was a small disappointment but by then I was feeling rather full anyway. on the whole a truly enjoyable experience. The total bill for 2 x persons after adding 2 x glasses of bubbly, 1 x bottle of Fiano and 2 x coffees came to £475.00. An expensive meal ticket it has to be said. The service for the whole evening was exemplary. So is it worth it? Its not for me to say more for you to contemplate if you want to take the seat.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experince
A food heaven experiance that is amazing with a great calm atmosphere from all the team members. They skilfully co-ordinated the timings to present and serve and explain each dish which are carefully checked before the presentation to you . There are some amazing dishes that are created, highly enjoyable. As you face the kitcken area from the well spaced out table arrangemment you can experiance the preparation of the dishes as they are created. Its clear to see the passion that all the team have here. Excelent wine list is also presented. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyTasting menu extraordinaire
We had the lunch tasting menu and every single dish was superb. I am allergic to shellfish and they swapped out every dish without batting an eyelid. Nothing was a problem. I love the way the chefs bring over their own dishes and explain them to you. There's no distinct waiting staff. You arrive on time, as made very clear in the emails and bookings. I don't know why people find that somehow offensive? It's set in a brand new rebuilt part of town with loads of bars and cafes around if you're there too early. Easily the best restaurant in Manchester.
Be the first to ReplyStandout superb birthday treat. Highly recommended.
Wow, this is fine dining at its best. Superb tasty clever cooking, but not formal or stuffy with friednly welcoming staff. We loved it from start to finish. Thank you !
Be the first to ReplyIncredible!
Can not fault from start to finish. The food is incredible, the staff are very helpful and welcoming, the wine selection is amazing and we loved the whole experience. Yes you pay a lot - but you get what you pay for. Thank you Mana for making our experience so special. Can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyCulinary Experience
My expectation of our visit to mana was one of an “ culinary experience”.
This was fulfilled in full.
I use Trip Advisor as a reference point when trying some where new.
When reading reviews I am more influenced by the positive ones as I find the few negative comments do not represent an overall picture of what I to expect when visiting a new location.
A case in point is mana in Manchester .
Negatives include “overpriced” , “not good value” and “arrival times.”
When looking at the first two, I assume these diners were aware of the £185 set menu price.
Have they considered the overheads that mana is providing with top quality food, the location rental and in particular mana’s statement that they pay top professional salaries to their highly trained staff.
I counted a minimum of 16 working staff during our lunch. Their web site even states that service charges are not made and tips on accepted !!
One must look at the whole picture or don’t chose the only Michelin restaurant in Manchester.
I can see the irritation for customers arriving early and expecting a pre dinner drink.
The reality is that the area they use for arriving guests is used for the first courses of the extensive tasting menu before you are allocated another table.
They do not have a separate bar for diners. The web site does advise “ because of limited space, request you arrive promptly within 10 minutes of your reservation time”
Perhaps this could be re-worded to explain that this requirement is due to the concept of the experience to be had. When we visited on time , two other couples were victims of this rule.
Having visited for lunch recently as a family party of four, all enjoyed the experience and would recommend.
Absolutely Fantastic
Visited Mana this week to celebrate our combined 60th Birthdays. Great that we have a Michelin Starred Restaurant in Manchester and after eating here can say that it absolutely deserves it.
The decor is stunning. Tables are well spaced out and arranged so that the theatre of the open kitchen can be watched and followed throughout the evening. The young chefs worked like a well oiled machine cooking and serving superbly tasting and impeccable looking food.
Service was delivered by knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive staff.
Could have possibly done with a second pudding\ sweet and the option of a cheese course but otherwise absolutely fantastic.
Will await to see if Mana achieves 2 Stars in the next round of awards as definitely up there with the best . Well Done
Relaxed Saturday lunch
Lost for words, the best outside of the southern belt, quality at its best, well done Simon, you deserve the highest accolade.
Be the first to ReplyUtterly Underwhelming and massively over priced. Don’t, just don’t.
Hideous. Over seasoned, over rich, over prepared, over priced, drinks menu woeful. 1 dessert option. Don’t bother. I could recommend a dozen other Manchester restaurants that you could visit three times over for less than you’ll pay here. I don’t expect this to survive 2022. Obviously I won’t be back.
Be the first to ReplyNot good value
Not good value for money, in our opinion. The most expensive tasting menu we’ve seen in the North, paid fully upfront, and little generosity in the experience to back that up. We felt all stages here try to extract an extra few quid out of you. The head chef seems to double as front of house manager which we felt meant the service wasn’t as good as comparable places. We feel there are several better Michelin experiences within an hour’s drive. On the flip side, much respect to the chef for the achievement in gaining Manchester’s first recent Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyGreat But
Very Good
Overall, the food was very good although odd that you cant arrive until exactly on time. We were asked to come back when we arrived 15 minutes early for dinner. Excellent sea food courses and a great lamb course. One small pudding left me feeling slightly wanting more sweet things, albeit you are served a perfect amount of food. The staff maybe could interact more and relax, at times it felt slightly stiff. Great to have a good choice of non alcoholic wines for those that wanted them. Great restaurant but not perfect for me
Full of flavour but very long
Went to mana yesterday. Firstly, the place is beautiful. The decor is impeccable and everything is spotlessly clean. The staff are massively knowledgeable and friendly (and young!) The chefs serve you your food. It was 14 courses and I also had the wine flight. There was a lot of unusual dishes which I really enjoyed for their sense of playfulness but anyone looking for traditional eating will not find it here. The amount of flavour they packed into the food was unbelievable, so powerful it almost tasted fake. The one thing I have to say is that the experience took 3 hours, three hours of eating and by the last three courses I just couldn’t fit anymore in. I missed out on the wine because I had no room left and they left the best till last with the food and drink as well. So that was disappointing. The wine pairing was the best I’ve ever had and can’t be understated. However, I personally think they could serve fewer courses because I left feeling unwell having tried to eat and drink it all. The whole experience, and it is an experience rather than a meal, cost me around £230. It was worth it for the fact that I have never eaten anywhere like it and almost certainly never will again. The head chef Simon had a stern word with a chef/waiter who dropped a fork in the restaurant. I felt bad for him and Simon came across a bit arrogant but perhaps that’s to be expected from a place like this.
Be the first to ReplyA real food experience
Before I went I thought it was too expensive but when I went I thought it was worth every penny. It is a special occasions place and a real food opera. You should treat it as an experience rather than going to eat food. Every course was artistically put together and presented. Really delicious and innovative. To me it deserves 2 Michelin stars. I particularly enjoyed the Balfour English sparkling wine, which tasted nicer than most champagnes.
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal and worth every penny
My partner and I visited Mana in October 2021 for her 30th birthday. We’ve visited many fine dining restaurants before but never a one which has been awarded a Michelin star, so we were eager to see the difference. The taste and quality of the food wasn’t like anything we’ve tried before, it was leagues above! I didn’t know food could taste so good and with so many different flavours that I’ve never tasted before. We treated the visit as an experience rather than a simple meal out and we’re in the restaurant for around 3 hours, so for a special occasion it was well worth the money.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible.
Mana was the most amazing experience.
The decor of the restaurant was stunning. The service from the second we walked in the door was nothing but excellent. The little things matter, taking our coats, pulling out the chair, keeping water topped up, wiping down the tables after each meal.. it was all appreciated.
Then there’s the food, out of this world. You really do have to go in with an open mind and it was delicious. How you see all the chefs working together and the chefs coming to the table to talk about the food, how it’s cooked was really interesting and finally the wine that is matched with each dish - amazing.
The knowledge of the wine, how and where it is made was great. No stone was unturned, everything was given 10/10 by every individual there.
Thank you!
