Mar'sel Rancho Palos Verdes Reviews from The Last Year
Really great food and even better service.
The scenery with the view of the ocean was a dream
We have a tradition of dining at Mar'Sel for our
We have a tradition of dining at Mar'Sel for our anniversary. Last night we sat outside and we're nice and warm under the heaters. Our server Karla was an absolute delight, giving great advice and not making fun of me when I asked her questions like, "What's in a Manhattan?" and "What exactly IS squab?". We had the pan seared scallops over risotto and it was fabulous. The English Muffins in the bread basket were so good I asked Karla to sneak some into a to go bag for me. The most interesting (and fabulous) dish we had was the chocolate cauliflower soup. That sounds like a weird combo, but as the manager explained to us - they get their chocolate from the Rhone valley and it's just a smidge of it blended in. I'll remember this dish for a long time. We felt pampered by the staff and being outside with the view of the cliffs felt like an intimate experience. Cannot recommend highly enough. Oh, and the WhistlePig Manhattan I had was to die for.
Hospitality at its absolute finest.
Impossible to overstate the ease with which the staff at Mar'sel provides impeccable service; from the kind offering of my preference to seating, to the chair being pulled out for me when I would rejoin the table, a blanket being provided for my lap to keep warm, the light humor and confident professionalism from every staff member I crossed, and of course a vast menu knowledge on behalf of the serving and support staff, I could not be more impressed. I enjoy a nice night out to dinner but my server, Jesus, and every single other member of the staff I had the pleasure of meeting on March 5th, surprised me by making my impromptu dinner for one a simply remarkable experience of hospitality and what it should strive to be. Also, the food was delicious. Persimmons with burrata and Butternut Squash soup were some of the highlights of the meal for me. Roasted Forest Mushrooms were out of this world; so much flavor as well as a great portion size. Very unique flavors for sorbet and gelato which I appreciate. I tried the Peach Tea, Mango Chamoy, and Vanilla; all of which were delightful. All this combined with a gorgeous view of the ocean and sunset surrounding the venue made for an outstanding evening and dining experience. I highly recommend for all occasions, casual or celebratory. Thank you Mar'sel!
If you are looking for a great place to celebrate a special
If you are looking for a great place to celebrate a special occasion, look no further. Mar'sel is the place. Nestled in the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, it is on the top of the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Welcoming staff , outstanding service , and delicious food. We had the grilled octopus, scallops and shrimp for appetizers. All cooked perfectly. We had the grilled branzino, pork chop and steak for entrees. Desserts and coffee was delicious. Water glasses were always refilled promptly, silverware and plates were changed regularly, and wait staff were always available if we needed them. It gets cool in the evening but they had plenty of heat lamps which the moved around as needed. 5 stars.
Decided to go here as a last minute choice for Valentine's
Decided to go here as a last minute choice for Valentine's Day. A choice I greatly regret. Mar'sel's has a an amazing location. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance. The service is fantastic. The food however is incredibly underwhelming. I dare say mediocre. It's just incredibly disappointing that the most expensive restaurant at the resort also has terrible food. Valentine's Day dinner was a 3 course fixed menu. I ordered the risotto, the dry aged steak cooked medium, and the mango panna cotta. The risotto was overcooked, the steak was tough and flavorless, the panna cotta however, fantastic. My partners dinner was of equal if not greater disappointment, though she too enjoyed her dessert. We did also enjoy the wine pairing. They were courteous enough to remove one of the course from our final bill on their own accord as they noticed our entrees had gone untouched. Overall, Mar'sel offers a fantastic view, quality service, and shocking terrible food.
Mar'sel, nestled within the exquisite Terranea Resort,
Mar'sel, nestled within the exquisite Terranea Resort, offers a captivating dining experience with its charming ambience and impeccable service. I made a reservation for myself and the Mrs for Valentine's Day which allowed for only their preset menu($180 per person). A tad steep but the restaurant's live harp player, elegant décor and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean create a picturesque setting for a memorable meal. However, despite the inviting atmosphere and attentive staff, the quality of the seafood falls short of expectations. Despite being situated in a coastal paradise renowned for its fresh seafood, the offerings at Mar'sel disappoint. Dishes may lack the freshness and flavor one would anticipate, detracting from the overall dining experience. Features of the preset menu had seafood trio all of which were disappointing and some form of fowl described in likeness to pigeon. Also not good. Additionally, while luxury dining often commands a premium price, the cost at Mar'sel may be perceived as excessively high given the subpar seafood quality. For some diners, the exorbitant prices may not be justified by the culinary experience offered. In summary, while Mar'sel excels in ambiance and service, its underwhelming seafood offerings and steep prices may leave some patrons feeling disappointed. For those seeking a truly exceptional dining experience, exploring other dining options within Terranea Resort or the surrounding area may be advisable. Oh and the abismal portions left us to hit the lounge bar and order burgers and fries 45 minutes later. I should return when there is no preset menu and I can make choices I'd probably enjoy more. Until then though 2 stars

Had a lovely dinner. We had a reservation during sunset. The view was stunning. I wish I had pictures but I was enjoying being in the moment. It being Valentine's Day and the restaurant full, we had great service. I always order my steak medium and the filet mignon was cooked to perfection. I ordered a margarita, but we also got the red wine they recommended. Both tasted amazing. I could never decide on desserts as I tend to want them all, but got the cheesecake and it puts all the other cheesecakes I've had to shame. I was in a food coma after. Luckily my bed for the night was only a few steps away. Overall had a great time with great company.

Had a great experience, three course meal with different options to choose from from each course, out of the box thinking chief Pairing was amazing Our waiter Benjamin was awesome My only regret was not going during the day to take in the views of the Pacific
what an amazing restaurant! took mama for a pre-vday dinner.
we've stayed and dined at Terranea on several occasions, but, have not had the pleasure of Mar'sel. Oh, what have we been missing! the location is atop a hill, adjacent to the main pool. if you're driving in, it's pretty close to the parking area. there's a wonderful bar upon entering that we would've stopped by at, had we not already imbibed at the Lobby Bar. a roaring fireplace welcomed us in to the dining area and a vista to justify exorbitant property values awaiting our outdoor seating. service from the get-go was TOP NOTCH. shannon led us to our seat and was the best concierge for our needs. felix set us up for what menu options we were going to enjoy this evening. a couple glasses of nice wine started us off, along with some yummy warm fresh baked bread. a little complimentary amuse bouche was a nice touch. mama and i started with the burrata. creamy and unctuous and paired wonderful with our bread options. i ordered the iberico pork steak and mama had the halibut. my pork was amazing, juicy and tender with a nice rendered fat cap. mama's halibut was delicious. firm, but, flakey and ate like a steak. we added a broccolini side that was so good. dinner was absolutely wonderful. shannon even came by and cleaned off our table before presenting us with the dessert menu. we didn't have room for any dessert, but, the gesture in of itself was very impressive. i wished more fine dining venues kept this practice. overall, a truly awesome and unforgettable night out at Mar'sel.
Food and service was outstanding.
Our server Jesus was perfect! Can't beat the ambience.
Horrible food, not worth going
Ordered ceviche and it was definitely not ceviche. It was tasteless cooked shrimp with a bit of cucumber and tomato and tortilla chips. The food overall was so bad and they serve water in plastic cups which a) in that price segment makes no sense and b) is horrible for the environment. Only positive was the service, very friendly.
menu and wine list disappointed
A few friends and I ate at Mar'sel while we were staying at Terranea resort. Overall, service was slow and food was just average, especially for the high price. We came when it was somewhat dark, so the beautiful setting was kind of lost. If you are going to go here, go during the daylight hours, because otherwise you are just looking at a pitch black ocean if you are dining outside. The menu is not huge, but we were a larger group and shared a bunch of items. The burrata appetizer was a total miss – one of the smallest portions of cheese I’ve ever received, and it was covered in an Asian sesame dressing that totally overpowered the delicate flavor of the cheese. I was just eating sesame dressing. The lobster pasta was not an elegant dish and was covered in brown sauce so you couldn’t really tell the pasta from the lump lobster meat. The Shishito peppers were a good shared plate and probably the best food we had. Service was quite slow, even though the restaurant was not full. They stacked dirty plates next to everyone’s ears as they cleared, which is fine at an IHOP, but not at a restaurant with these prices. Drinks took quite a while to come, even glasses of wine. The wine list is varied, but not deep. For the California options, there were not many good options and it just focused on large brands that the distributor has. Nothing unique, and not much local wine except a Catalina wine. As this is the premium restaurant for this resort, I was disappointed, but not surprised, as Terrenea itself was disappointing. Overall, the setting is pretty, but that’s the only thing to recommend about this restaurant.
Waste of Time, Waste of Money.
Just had an anniversary dinner at Mar'sel. While the food was nice, it's definitely overpriced. However, I found that we were met with disrespect, left standing waiting on a table that was booked a week in advance. When seated, clearly being PC hasn't reached the Terranea resort yet. During the meal I decided I wasn't spending any further money at it, and left. Customer service training would be recommened for this lacklustre restaurant that depends on rushing people through their tables, and a view. The local Taco stand offered better service, and yes, I stopped there on the way home. Useless, and if anything they score high in, is homophobia.
Special dinner with friends and family
Whenever I have a special dinner with adults I take them here. GORGEOUS views (we saw a pack of dolphins!) and the food and service are outstanding.
A fabulous dining!
Wonderful dining experience. From the room, to the setting, to the service and of course the meal itself. Highly recommended.
Unforgettable Elixir Extravaganza
While staying at the beautiful Terranea Resort, we decided to check out Mar’sel for some drinks and we were so delighted that we did. The drink menu at Mar’sel is a true testament to creativity and craftsmanship. Every sip was an explosion of flavors, meticulously crafted to perfection. Each drink was a work of art, beautifully presented with exquisite attention to detail. The service at Mar’sel was impeccable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their expertise. The overall ambiance of Mar’sel is both sophisticated and relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind and indulge in remarkable drinks. Whether you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or simply want to treat yourself to a memorable evening, Mar’sel is the ultimate destination. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend paying a visit and experiencing the magic for yourself. Cheers to Mar’sel and their incredible drinks that elevate the art of mixology!
YUM and can't wait to come back
Mar'sel is so special! The outside patio is amazing with panoramic ocean views. Our server Steven was so wonderful and manager Isvan made our night complete with complimentary champagne and checking on us often. The food was out of this world and my favorite was scallop risotto and filet. YUM! We will be back for sure!
Killer cocktails! Yum!
Heard this place had a fantastic bar so we absolutely went to check it out. And the reviews were TRUE! Probably the best spicy Marg I’ve ever had. My husband and I went with another couple for drinks before our dinner reservations and this place did not disappoint. Ask for smoked margs!

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
