Just okay.
Rolls weren't particularly flavorful or impressive. They were on the smaller size for portion sizes. The crispy rice spicy tuna was okay. The rice was flat like a pancake and had what looked like nori mixed into it which made it extra chewey.

Based on other reviews who have had a negative experience, the common factor is the service. I came to eat here and the service was the most unprofessional I have ever experienced. We came to eat last Friday and initially we were being served by a friendly waitress who asked if we needed more time or had any questions. We ordered their fried poppers with her and for our main order another waitress came to take that order. She appeared very rushed and we did not understand why initially. She then said that we would not be able to place any more orders as it was last call. We had no issue with and at this point there were about 40 min left until their said closing time (9:30pm). Our food came out one by one and when the last plate was set down, the waitress brought out our check and insisted we pay now as they were closing registers at that moment. We thought okay sure but not 30 seconds later she came back and said she needed a payment now so my husband placed his card. Keep in mind the restaurant was closing their registers at least 30 min before their stated closing time. I had never been to a restaurant where they start closing registers before the restaurant even closes unless they are accustomed to closing this way before so once the last customer leaves so do they. This means doing all the cleaning as customers are there and not staying afterwards. Which it seemed this way because they were also taking out overfilled trash cans through the restaurant while customers were still eating their food. I saw them take out overfilled trash cans 4 times coming and going which to me is unprofessional and a health hazard. They even left one of the trash cans next to customer's tables when it was brought from their kitchen and not initially there. After this the same woman came to collect everyone's receipts and we planned to leave cash as a tip. So we wrote cash as we were still trying to eat because every time we would reach for a bite it was interrupted due to payment being demanded. The lady stood there and saw we wrote cash so she demanded we give her the cash at that moment. I thought it was highly unprofessional and I then decided to say we were not going to leave a tip because her service was rushing us every minute. We gave our initial waitress a cash tip as we thought she was friendly and liked her service. The other woman then said I will come back for my tip so you think about it. She also said if we were not going to tip then we should not go out to eat and stay home. She also stated that in California it is required to leave a tip. No where in the receipt did it mention that and we also did not have a large party where tip is already included due to a large party. I did not say anything because it seemed that no matter what I was going to say or do she was going to have the contrary opinion. We have never decided against leaving tips until this day. I also say this due to having family in the restaurant business I understand what professional and respectful service is. Overall from reading other reviews others have had this experience of rude service.

Food was okay4/10, the service was okay, the only issue I had there is when they force you to leave a tip for them. Tipping comes out of appreciation from us customers to those workers who go above and beyond. the waitress didn't go above and beyond so it wasn't tip worthy. But to not let me leave until the they see a tip. Is absolutely ridiculous.
Be the first to ReplyI think the rolls here were just ok.
Service was great and I like the outdoor seating in the parklets. The ambiance outside is nicely decorated.

Not family friendly. Surprisingly old fish. Tourist trap. Go somewhere else

Stopping in for lunch, we sat at the sushi bar which in my opinion is the best at small sushi spots. The service is always on point. The rolls here looked decent but my friend and I prefer to not have all the added fluff so we opted for nigiri style. The uni was incredibly creamy and fresh. The S.O.B hand roll had yellowtail, quail egg, cucumber, and smelt egg, it was so so good. The seafood here was so fresh. The baked mussels were really great too, I appreciate that they don't bake them with imitation crab and kewpie. It's just mussels and a yummy butter sauce. I will definitely be back. Service was great, and you can't beat their prices. (Pics are labeled). I'd say if you're going for non-sushi items or if you consider sushi a California roll you might want to hit another spot lol this place clearly specializes in their fresh seafood flavors.

don't come here. not worth your gas, time, or dollar.
Be the first to ReplyService not great.
Sushi is mediocre. Not great not bad. The problem is the huge 20% tip they charged with our bills. Our party 3 adults and 1 kid 5 years old . It never happened anywhere else before the places that we ate. Won't go back in this place. I won't recommend.
Be the first to ReplyI had been wanting to check out this sushi restaurant
I had been wanting to check out this sushi restaurant located in downtown for a while and today we finally did. After spending some time walking around downtown doing some shopping I realized it was lunch time and the perfect time to go have lunch at Masa Sushi. They have a lovely patio for outdoor dining, but my family and I felt a little chilly, so we decided to eat inside. They have some simply but cute decorations. Service was nice. Our waitress sat us down and took our order, she also made some recommendations. We ordered there lunch specials and their Y2K roll which was good. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi place but it was a lot of good for their prices. I would go back for their lunch specials.
Be the first to ReplyAlways loved this place.
Great food. Too bad they are starting by to nickle and dime the customer. Added charge of $1 for a teensy side of green onion. Come on masa. This rubs me the wrong way.

Called for a manager, asked for my identity and they hung up. It was a very rude interaction.
Be the first to ReplyFrankly, some of the worst sushi I have ever eaten.
nThe tuna was dry and pale. I couldn't eat it. The fried rice was over-salted, yet flavorless. If you really like quality sushi, this is not the place for you.

Came here for lunch with my buddy and had a great time! We both had the lobster roll which was awesome 10/10, I enjoyed the sesame tofu appetizer very much which came with a really savory sauce! I also enjoyed a miso soup was great and warm. The service was quick and great since we were some of the few people there and I love the ambiance! You're on main street ventura especially the patio, the vives are bound to be good. I will definitely come back to enjoy another roll from this place!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food and even worse service.
Don't waste your time or money. If I could give it a zero O I would. Worst dining experience of my life

Family friendly clean place, I had a few rolls and some others. The fish was fresh prepared properly up to standards. I recommend this place for sure!!! I will hit this place again. The servers were great and checked in more than needed but was greatly appreciated.

. never know what to expect right? I love the basic sushi food and I thought I'd give this over hyped place a try! Service was very on point, very lovely waiters, and the heaters are very nice since it's been freezing out here in Ventura during the holidays! Anyways my friend and I decided to be crazy and order 2 plates. teriyaki combo: can definitely feed two people. Very good for a basic sushi eater like myself.Chefs choice: unwise decision for myself. I asked the waiter that I wanted to try new things, expand my pallete so I asked for a recommendation. Chefs choice was her recommendation so I did it. I was not a fan. I took one small nibble of the sashimi and I knew I wouldn't like the rest. I asked if I could get a replacement, she had to ask the owner since she didn't know what to do in a situation like this.. I had not touched any of the other rolls and she said I would have to pay for a new plate of food.. bummer. I've worked in a restaurant and I'd understand if they charge me if I ate 50% if it but I had one small bite. Anyways, the teriyaki combo was great. I hope the owner/manager will be a little more understanding in the future.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my go to Sushi place in downtown Ventura.
On a nice day there outside patio is nice. Good food and great service.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a brisk morning in Ventura.
The pavement was brighter than usual from the rain the day before, but the sun still hid behind clouds, the clouds that promised rain for the next couple days. Accompanied by my two friends and two strangers, we waited at the door of Masa Sushi. The strangers embarked on a forbidden journey (opening the closed door) and they told us what they had found on their expedition, that the restaurant would open in 3 minutes. It was 11:27. We took a short trip to Buffalo Exchange to pass time while we waited for 3 minutes to pass. After spending time and money in the overpriced thrift store, we returned to the spot, and waited for a few minutes before we were greeted by an employee of the restaurant. She asked if we would like to be seated inside or outside, and the weather demanded an inside sit. "Inside would be nice," we said. "Come back in 15 minutes," she said. To Goodwill we went.Goodwill proved disappointing, but purchases were made. Of course. Whether or not we wear such purchases remains a mystery. We returned yet again to Masa, and we were promptly seated and served. It was happy hour, which we were happy to hear. Most appetizers and rolls were discounted, which was a pleasant surprise as starving college students who quite literally live paycheck to paycheck. The Red Dragon roll and Crunch roll were spectacular as usual, and the cucumber salad and garlic edamame were fantastic as expected. The usual 5 star rating was dimmed to a 4 star today, but going Masa is always a highlight. The employees are helpful and kind, and they have Shirley Temples. Everything was yummy, everyone was nice, come during happy hour, but not when they open. Third time's the charm.
Be the first to ReplySecond time going here in the last two weeks.
Sat once inside and once outside. On a nice day outside is nice. Big picnic tables and good for people watching. But not nice in bas weather. Our sushi was very good both times. Very fresh fish and a very large menu. One in our group doesn't like sushi but they have plenty of options that are cooked. Very good service and food came fast. My only complaint is that we received our appetizers after our main meals. So Don't order them at the same time. Would go back.
Be the first to ReplyLove the atmosphere here.
Always easy to get a table. Food is good, service is poor. Servers too stretched between patrons. Recently sashimi arrived room temp and salads arrived warm and long after main order. A large group came in after us and was served food long before us. Had to wave at server to get our warm salads. It was busy but still not acceptable. Music inside is bad and super loud. We will continue to patronize Masa but will sit outside.
Be the first to ReplyA solid sushi spot to satisfy your cravings.
I've come here a couple times already and it has always been a good experience. The food is good and the service has been good as well.

Be the first to ReplyI cannot make sense out of the five star reviews for this
I cannot make sense out of the five star reviews for this place. It's mediocre sushi, at best. When we expressed concern that the teriyaki chicken looked under cooked, one server asked if we requested "well done", then looked at her co-worker who asked the same question. This isn't a cut of steak. Anyone in the food service industry should know about the importance of properly cooked poultry. Felt like we were being gas lit. Didn't work. Check out their health score section and you'll see that they have a violation for under cooking their food. I'm posting a photo of the violation. Be careful!
