We booked a spa retreat at this supposed spa through bookyogaretreat.com and were very disappointed to find upon arrival that the entire promotional video, written description and reviews were fake. We spent a lot of money to fly from the UK to Montenegro to stay at a yoga detox retreat for a week where we were told we would have a personalized, freshly prepared detox menu prepared every day, would be given a daily thai massage in a lovely outdoor environment as well as a daily yoga class. The video showed lovely outdoor terraces for eating our meals, a pool to swim in, etc. When we were dropped off at the airport we were a bit taken back as the hotel was nothing like the video. The hotel, 2 stars at the most was closer to the type of accomodation you would book only if you wanted to be close to an airport if you had an early morning flight. The hotel room looked clean but there was no pool, no outside terraces where we could sit. We went down for our scheduled massage which turned out not to be at a hotel but in a mall 5 minute walk away. We were not sure how to get there until a young girl arrived with food in 2 plastic take out containers. She left the food on the counter and told us to follow her. The facility for a massage turned out to be located in the back hallway of mall on the second floor. The studio was very tired looking and did not look particularly clean. We were both told to go in to a large, dark communal room where they pulled a curtain between us to give us a bit of privacy and told to lie down on the mattresses on the floor. We were not asked any questions i.e. did we have any physical limitations or issues such as any injuries, bad back, knees, etc. Two Thai ladies proceeded to give us a very aggressive massage. They talked to each other throughout the entire 45 minutes. It was not a very relaxing or enjoyable experience. We were happy to leave earlier even though we were suppose to have received a 60 minute massage. We walked back to the hotel where the person who checked us in gave us the 2 plastic fast food containers that had been delivered earlier and said this was our meal. We asked if we could sit out on the terrace to eat our meals but she said we could eat in our tiny shared room or thier very dark, tired and sad looking breakfast room. She said if we did want to eat outside we could take the meals and walk 10 minutes to the waterfront and eat on a park bench! Which we did. Our meal was a lukewarm soup and over cooked brussel sprouts smothered in a heavy curry sauce over rice. We both got the same meal so definately not personalized and definately not detox or healthy. We went back to the hotel and ran in to two other women who were also at the spa and did not look happy. When we asked them if they were at the detox yoga retreat they rolled their eyes and said they unfortunately were. They told us the night before they were served only french fries and mushy peas for dinner! They said there was a daily yoga class on the roof of the hotel however there was so much noise and pollution wafting up from the busy road below that it was not relaxing at all and that both of them felt more ill and stressed than when they arrived. At this point my friend and I decided that we could not stay even though we were charged €1300 Euros plus flights, etc. We are in the process of trying to get our money back. The owner of Kamalaya Spa is a fraud by misrepresentation. What she is providing in Budva does not even remotely resemble her marketing material. BookYogaRetreats.com obviously does not vet the sites they recommend to unwitting clients looking for a healthy, relaxing spa retreat. Shame on them both!
