A different way of dining - superb!
What can I say! Just the best lunch ever! What a brilliant concept! You choose your courses as you go, choose your wine or beer as you go and end with a pudding and coffee. I am gluten free and the attention to detail and support was brilliant. Their home cooked GF bread is fantastic. The service is friendly and enjoyable. We felt our server supported us through our culinary experience and wanted to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. She made the whole experience memorable and enjoyable. Really recommend the Scandinavian sashimi, streamed cod and wild choc pud!

Had several different courses and some drinks. Food was really good, as was the service. Steamed beef bun was terrific. Would recommend to go here for brunch, get some champagne and buy as many courses as you'd like.

This great place is highly recommended. Not advertised entrance to the right of the Grand Hotel entrance. Serves fantastic and artistic smaller dishes (larger tapas size). A place I’ve been to several times and keep coming back. Fantastic service and an almost ”unlimited” choice of wines.

Had the 7 course tasting menu. The food was fantastic, both watching the preparations infront of us and the actual taste. The service was also perfect , even guiding to the toilets is a little above and beyond what we are used to. Alcohol free drinks for another couple looked better than the usual 'cider' variations that we have seen in other restaurants. Only tasted 2 of the wines that were chosen fir the menu due to medical reasons, but they complimented the food perfectly.

The dishes on the four course dinner were small and almost without the main ingredient. The dish with raindeer only had two really small pieces. The halibut the same. Not satisfied.

If you want to eat fine dining in a more relaxed and modern atmosphere this is the place to go. We had 4 course dinner with wine package. Loved everything. Service very good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, good food.
We tried matbaren for dinner. The vibe and staffs were great and attentive. We tried different dishes, I was impressed by a few ( Seared lamb, tarta ) but less impressed with some other like cauliflower royale, and Fried wild mushrooms, Steamed cod.
All and all, nice experience, but compared to other fine-dinning experiences, I wouldnt rank it on top.
Excellent food and attentive staff
Highly recommend this amazing restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is outstanding and the setting is beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyDeservedly lost its Michelin star
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Europe - casual yet very polished and detailed oriented, with amazing seasonal Scandinavian food (think salmon&reindeer sashimi). Unfortunately, the menu has shifted over the years to some poorly executed Asian fusion attempt (I don’t understand the mediocre steamed bun that has been on the menu for a couple of years now…).
Small details have changes. There used to be amazing bread served with meals - then it was changed to a pretty tasteless one - and then on the last visit no bread was served.
Quality of servers has deteriorated over the years too. On my last visit, I ordered a salmon and raw shrimp nikkei dish - and only when it was served I was told “by the way, we don’t have shrimp today so the dish is with scallop instead”. That’s just not acceptable...
I’ve been to Matbaren countless times in the past 10 years but looks like it’s time to move on… When I saw it lost the Michelin star that it had for all those previous years, I thought: “Makes sense… I’m not the only one who’s noticed this…”
Stockholm at its best
It was interesting the 1st time round, less the 2nd time, though it is nice to taste and see, sort of fast food, delivered to you in style and sharp tastes.
Would look forward going back next time round and sit on the bar counter looking at the brigade preparing and chatting with the bar as the evening goes along.
